Kotaku: Rare HD collection is coming to Xbox One

So what do you mean by rework? What do you think would need to be done?

I already told you I'm not a programmer. My point is that I doubt a dev team would need to go in and reprogram 30 Rare games from scratch to work on XB1. Or hell, maybe I'm completely wrong and they would.

That doesn't really matter though. These types of remakes happen all the time. 30 is a big number but for all we know, this has been in development for a year or two. We don't know how many teams are working on it. Maybe it's multiple teams. Retro titles are reprogrammed and released all the time.

I know the difference between a remaster and a remake, but I thought the Perfect Dark and Banjo releases were more in line of a remake, though? I know they weren't totally made from scratch, but I thought it was more in-between the two like Halo: CE or the OOT 3D. Were they just straight uprezzes of the N64 games?

No, you're right, they're more than just ports. I wouldn't call them full on remakes though.

Never played games like Banjo and Jet Force Gemini so this doesn't interest me. Would've liked a GoldenEye port though.

So they're making an HD collection of 30 of their games??? Holy crap.

They're also working on a "new, original game"? Does that mean new IP? Are they working on anything else?

They aren't no, but my understanding is that it takes a decent amount of work to do a project like that, though. Undertaking Rare's whole N64 catalog in that manner would seem like quite a lot of work I would think.

Yeah, you're probably right. I doubt we'd get that type of treatment for every game. Maybe just handful of them.

I have no interest whatsoever in such a collection.

Besides last gen gems that I wasn't able to play due to platform choice (like Last of Us) or release date (such as Splinter Cell Blacklist and Metro Last Light) I don't have any interest on remasters/collections.

I don't need this old shit, give me some sequels to these games Rare.

Most kids these days haven't played games like Jet Force Gemini and Perfect Dark. Heck, there are tons of kids today who have never played Banjo-Kazooie.

Doesn't it make sense to expose kids to the older Rare games to build hype for any potential sequels?

I think putting these games on disc is dumb, but they MUST do that, then they should release in 3 volumes.

Vol. I: NES
Vol. II: N64
Vol. III: Xbox/360

I can't stress enough how dumb it is to put 30 games from 30 years of history into a single disc. It's like saying these games are worth a couple of bucks each. Good god.

Overwhelming value

I've been waiting decades for these "potential sequels". As a huge Rare fan, this news is incredibly underwhelming.

"We've been sitting on all of these IP for decades. What should we get Rare to make?"
"How about Banjo-Threeie? A proper Conker sequel? A new Battletoads?"
"Let's just re-release everything Rare has made on one disc since everybody knows they're incapable of making good games now."

Urgh.

Can they give Perfect Dark proper controls this time? I'd still be playing it on 360 if aiming wasn't such a damn chore. Was so hyped at the time of its release, too.

Blast Corps HD?

May need XBone...

So a bunch of old games and 1 game a long way off. What a load.

Also I thought people said over and over HD collections are farmed out and don't take time away from the Company.

Whatever the case I'm sure we'll find out some more info today, maybe they have more in store that's still secret.

Who said they're not going to also show Banjo-Threeie? I guess we'll know in an hour.

I think re-releasing the originals for the Xbox audience is a good way to set up for sequels.

EDIT: Ah, I see the rumor says the other game is "original."

The thing is, very few people care about old Rare games today. I think this is will sell pretty bad for the value it offers. It's a waste. And MS will probably go "WELP, looks like no one cares about these IP after all", which would be terrible for the prospect of new iterations of these games made in the future.

They should really release each game separately as a download and then make a collection. They should have done that a long time ago actually.

Threeie is happening in an hour, don't worry.

There's no way this is the only thing they're working on.

So the thing that pushes you over the edge to buy an XB1 is the ability to play a few remastered NES and N64 games? Alrighty.
There's no reason to be all snarky because people like different things than you.

I'm pretty pumped. A lot of Rare games came out before I could tie my shoes and I'd love to give them a shot.

I already have an Xbox One, but if I didn't have one yet and be buying one today if this is true.

N64 games look terrible on modern TV's and they really is no really good why to play some of these titles anymore. Even the N64 emulators are glitchy and not ideal.

I don't have an Xbox One either, but I will definitely purchase one for something like this. I am really hoping for a Banjo-Threeie announcement though. I will be buying an Xbox One after work if that happens.

Seems like a good way to revive interest in some of their IPs. There's a lot of stuff that had the potential to produce a great sequel that never came to pass.

If it has all the Banjo Kazzoie games ( Banjoy Kazooie, Banjo Tooie), Conker's Bad Fur Day (Both the N64 version and Live and Reloaded, Jet Force Gemini, etc I'll buy this in a heartbeat.
