The really old games are probably not all owned by Microsoft.

Will probably be more of a SNES & N64 collection - that would be easiest to do.

This literally sounds like it's just a resolution and aspect ratio bump.

I don't really care how many games are in the collection, N64 textures and visuals aren't going to fly on current generation hardware for me.

Obviously a full scale remake i.e. Halo: CEA and Halo 2: A are massive undertakings, especially with 30 different titles, but a simple upres and aspect ratio change isn't really going to pass.

Like what? The only Rare games Nintendo still owns are those that contain Nintendo IP. MS owns the vast majority of Rare's output.

Hang on... remember this...?

Aww I just rebought a 360 just to replay my XBLAs of the Banjos and Perfect Darks and other Rare stuff. This may entice me to upgrade though.

Yeah, but back then the nostalgia for SNES games wasn't as high as it is now.

I mean, I was still in highschool (barely) when the DC released, and was playing most of those games a scant 5 years earlier.

Now I'm an old man, and the promise of games from my Junior High and younger days fills my rapidly deteriorating heart aflutter with memories of long lost friends and I sitting on a couch pummeling one another because one of us was being overly liberal with the definition of "my turn"

So much this.

There are people posting about this that really don't remember the fun of the Rare days. Maybe too young, too jaded or just never had access to their games.

If this is real, it is certainly something that taps into my gaming life from the past.

Nintendo doesn't own the vast majority of Rare's N64 output and a number of their N64 titles have already been re-released by MS. Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, and Perfect Dark are three that immediately come to mind.
Err, yeh, but unless Rare have remade all of their n64 games, (or made some sort of deal with Nintendo) there is no way they will be allowed to emulate the n64 games and run them on the Xbone One.

For old n64 games I agree but i'd gladly play kameo and PDZ in 1080p using 360 assets, especially if we get a lot of games in a bundle for a normal price.

Just like the XBLA re-releases, they would be reworked. How do you think Capcom was able to re-release REmake on non-Nintendo systems, a game built from the ground up on Gamecube?

The Banjo games looked great to me, very clean. But, maybe unlikely to be even that good?

Are any of the people who actually made these greats games still at Rare?

I think you know rhe answer to that. If all the grear developers at Rare had stayed, I think we'd be singing a different tune for MS this and last gen.

Edit: will still buy this HD collection. Want Conker in glorious HD.

Viva piñata 1-2
Perfect dark zero
Banjo
Conker
Jet force Gemini
Grabbed by the ghoulies

I'd say those are the games

Edit: forget kameo

Yeh sure, but we're talking 30 games here. Can't see it myself, but we'll see.

The person who made Banjo is still there, and quite frankly I imagine a lot of the staff who weren't in the limelight back in the rareware era are probably still there too.

First tragedy, then farce.
How many textures were actually on an N64 cart?

I'm not saying that a full remastered treatment is possible, but given the space constraints that existed back in those days I would imagine making new textures would not be an altogether burdensome task.

For the most part we were dealing with a handful of textures with pallet swaps to save space.

I think putting these games on disc is dumb, but they MUST do that, then they should release in 3 volumes.

Vol. I: NES
Vol. II: N64
Vol. III: Xbox/360

I can't stress enough how dumb it is to put 30 games from 30 years of history into a single disc. It's like saying these games are worth a couple of bucks each. Good god.

Dear MS & Rare: I was waiting to pay you full price for a HD JFG with dual analog controls.

But this works too.

I was under the impression that games of the N64 couldn't have true HD remasters due to the tech (something polygon related, I believe), so I'm wondering about that aspect of this rumor.

MS has already released HD versions of both Banjo titles alongside Perfect Dark.

These are not going to be remakes. If they are, serve me up a hefty helping of crow.

So? They're going to have to remake 30 games lol. You think that's quick?

No one said "remake"...I said "rework". I doubt every game would have to be redone from scratch. Then again, I'm not a programmer.

The idea of a bunch of old Rare games from different systems is not that far fetched.

Kameo and Viva Pinata would be perfect for a collection like this.

Keeping fingers crossed for Jet Force Gemini too.

We neeeed N64 Conker for multi alone. Also, various things were changed in the Xbox single player too :(

So what do you mean by rework? What do you think would need to be done?

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
If this includes Battletoads, then the internet is going to troll Rich from Pawn Stars even more.

I know the difference between a remaster and a remake, but I thought the Perfect Dark and Banjo releases were more in line of a remake, though? I know they weren't totally made from scratch, but I thought it was more in-between the two like Halo: CE or the OOT 3D. Were they just straight uprezzes of the N64 games?

Looks like I'm in the same boat as everyone else.

I'd only play Jet Force Gemini, Conker, Viva Pinata, Banjo 1+2, and Kameo.
