Sea of Thieves announced (Rare, XB1/PC, UE4, Pirates, Shared World Multiplayer)

This is what I don't get. I appreciate people wanting a revival of old franchises, but being disappointed with new stuff directly because they'd rather have old stuff is puzzling. New IPs are the most exciting thing about this industry.

If it was a new IP in a style people were hoping for I imagine the reception would be different. This looks to be yet another first person MMO survival game where the only unique twists are the pirate theme & ship battles.

Looks boring. Then again, I find most MMOs to be really boring.

Xbox owners already have enough open world multiplayer games. Rare should have been developing something to flesh out their games line-up.

Bitter about Banjo being a dead franchise now.

Looks more like a 100 man server thing ala recent first person survival/crafting games rather than full blown MMO, and also looks inspired by them.

How is this not a Rare game? Because it's a new IP? Oh noes, how dare they. You cant allow a creative studio to be creative!

You know, Blast Corps, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Kameo, GbtG, all those were new IPs when I saw them the first time and you did not see me complain. But this MMO-BS neither looks like it plays like a Rare game, nor does it look like a Rare game. I'm so incredibly underwhelmed, I couldn't possibly be more underwhelmed. It has nothing to do with it being a new IP. Nothing would have made me remotely as happy as Banjo, but a new IP like the ones above were, would not have made me mad at all. This right here is a slap in my face and I absolutely do not see in the slightest how this is typically Rareware. Yooka-Laylee is more typically Rareware than this ever could hope to be.

I have no idea what to think. I was expecting more from Rare. This game does look interesting, but where was Battletoads? I thought a new one was being made?

Sucks there was no Banjo though. :(

Preach it.

Hey, its a Pirate game, so it has awesome potential

But apart from the water (really nice), most of it looked super early to me.

I am now convinced a publisher, any publisher, could show a video of anything and there would be people that say - This looks amazing! That is the reality we have come to. There was nothing here.

I know people were upset that Rare didn't announce anything from their existing franchise (and I also would love a new Banjo), but this COULD be good. Maybe I'm biased because pirates, but I'm still looking forward to it. Interested to see how big the scope of the game is, how much freedom and customization it has, etc.

I know people are desperate for anything from RARE that isn't glorified minigames or Kinect bullshit, but this looked really really basic to me. Like generic as hell. Looks like those browser MMOs you see advertised on TV.

I am so hyped for this. I have been wanting an awesome pirate game for a while, and this just oozes Rare character and fun. The colors and style all look great. Most glad to see Rare coming back to proper form

GAF: "We need a new IP from Rare...I'm so excited!!!" to "Oh, it's not Banjo Threeie."

This is gonna be great.

Looks like they did what we always wanted in our house: Make Black Flag without all the stupid AssCreed missions dragging it down.

Kinda bummed it's an MMO though since it'll get axed eventually.

A Rare game that actually looks promising? What year is it? The potential here is insane.

But if there are monthly fees then that's a huge mistake.

Hmmm. I don't really understand this trailer. Not sure what the controls are. Is it mainly about interacting with the ship?

Something about it made me think it's never going to be released, or look very, very different once it is released.

Just seemed to be in a very early state, a lot of it screamed "fake" to me. Looked nice though, I love pirates.

Rare has finally been freed from Kinect!

Now they're making MMOs.

So crushing. It wouldn't have been so bad if there hadn't been so much Banjo-Threeie buzz, but I really thought there was a good chance of it being that. This isn't what I wanted from Rare.

At least we still have Yooka-Layle.

When were people saying this? Every person I've talked to was hoping for a Banjo, Battletoads, or Conker sequel. They have dozens of IP that they've been neglecting for years, and now they're making a pirate MMO that barely resembles anything in their back catalog. And that's being generous. It looks more like a Fable knockoff than a "uniquely Rare game". I have no reason to buy an Xbox One anymore, so I guess I should thank Microsoft for saving me a lot of money. Your move, Sony.

This game kind of summarizes the conference for me. All style, very little substance. I guess an E3 stage isn't really the venue but I just want to see some games with deep, meaty mechanics.

As a big fan of RPG's and Japanese game design in general I come away feeling the same as always, MS just isn't into the idea of making games for me.
