Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

Solid 7.5-8. Batmobile combat makes it tempting to drop a couple of points. It's just the same thing over and over, never evolves like the hand to hand has/does. Story is serviceable, you see everything coming a mile away. Not sure I'd ever replay this story simply because of the batmobile segments and that's coming from someone that replayed AA, AC and AO multiple times. It's a huge detriment, at least for me.

:/

I really hope this doesn't turn out to be this years shadow of mordor for me.

I don't mind if they keep the same core mechanics for future batman games, but imo they should stop doing open worlds set on "the longest night ever". This will be the fourth such game with that premise and realistically they should not be bound to this template. I feel like they're just afraid of rocking the boat too much, but in future there's nothing stopping them from building up more linear scenarios that take place over a period of days or weeks and don't let you run around the city doing whatever.

I'd love to see a day/knight (sorry!) cycle with your days spent as Bruce. The plot involves politics or some kind of corporate espionage that Bruce has to involve himself with directly.

Would be really cool to see Batman acting as Bruce, to see him break out of character occasionally to get something done (stealth through an office, take out a mugger or something).

Was hoping this game would be that...

7.5-8 isn't solid. ;)

That sounds great, but I would only want that if I could switch between Bruce and Batman as I please and not when the game forces me to.

Sure it is

Just because a game scores a 7 doesn't mean it's bad. It just means that it's decently good but certainly not great. I've played lots of games that I've enjoyed and would give 7s to, including some that I've liked quite a bit while reviewing.

In my books, the Canadian scale is best:

0-49% - Varying degrees of bad, from abhorrent to bad
50-59% - Mediocre, but passable
60-69% - Alright, decent
70-79% - Solid, decently good
80-89% - Very good
90-100% - Exceptional, classic, etc.

That's how I review. It makes most sense.

You should tweet this idea to Rocksteady instantly! Sounds great!

I'm in the UK and my Psn pre load still has not started 😑

This is my first time pre ordering on psn and it's not really been a good first impression of pre ordering new releases

Is anyone in the UK having the same problem ?

Yeah, preload hasn't started for me either - you think they'd get this shit going well in advance, especially with a game nearing 50gb!

Let's not pretend that people don't just use the 7-10 scale.

Yeah, that Steam unlock time is obviously wrong not unlocking until Tuesday at 1PM EDT/6PM in the UK would be ridiculous.

Yes, it actually uses the same adapted UE3 version from rocksteady that is being used for arkham knight. But before you get to worried: it was ported by high voltage studio, which are THE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY IN PORTING THINGS. They are really, REALLY bad, I think they never delivered an acceptable product to this day. Their track record is pretty much filled with buggy, bad performing piece of shit ports. Arkham knight shouldn't be that bad.

I'm not worried, I know it isn't an engine problem. ;)

Just a few hours to go till we all get to enjoy the awesomeness that is Batman Arkham Knight

Enjoy my Arkham Knight Release Trailer, made especially for you guys!

Cool.

Quite bizarre that Rocksteady didn't see the tank combat complaints coming from a mile away, and either drop it or make improve it. It looked out of place and dull the first time they showed it, and it seems to be just as bad now.

Looks like a case of doing something very detrimental to the game for the sake of a bullet point on the back of the box, and a differentiator from the previous games.

It really does look like a more enclosed version of the Hammerhead combat in ME2, and nobody wanted that in this game.

Not how it's viewed in the U.S. Though when people apply the usual U.S. School grading scale. People really shouldn't use it but they do and ignore that review scales usually set 5/10 as average instead of 7/10 or messier if decimals are involved, then 7/10 would be slightly below average.

Batman: Arkham Knight |OT| Protect Gotham, racing.
If I could tweak that slightly;

Batman: Arkham Knight |OT| Project Gotham Racing

I know that what you were probably going for but I thought the most obvious had a better ring to it :)

Really? I liked it was pretty fun, the tank combat gets better when you upgrade your weapons as well.

Yeah upgrading the ease of it doesn't make its gameplay better. Still stale wave after wave of lines I have to dodge etc. There's nothing engaging about that to me. I like the puzzles that involve it but focusing so much time on its combat capability is such a bizarre choice to me. Could have sprinkled it in for some rare cool setpieces but meh.

This is how I grade things. It gives the entire scale meaning.

If people insist on using a scale where a 5 is basically "shit," then they're better off moving to a five point/star system.

I thought MK9 turned out just fine. And the net code issues are probably not their fault. I'm not sure what happened with MKX.

Can anyone advise if I will be able to run this ok with a GTX 570? I bought a custom build a while back and the rest of my specs are above the recommended minimum, but I think the 570 technically falls below it.

I think mine may be overclocked (that is a thing with graphics cards too right? i'm ignorant on this stuff) I had no issues with city/origins on relatively high settings iirc.
