some info from interview with Nomura on this week's magazine.

-the scenes from the announcement trailer is part of scenes used in the actual game. the quality will be improved
-PS4 will be the first hardware that you can play this game. We are not thinking beyond that.
-There will be no new characters. The visual will match the realistic feel of the trailer.
-can't talk about the game system much, but it will be more realistic system.

Three keys things I took from the bolded:

Buy PS4, No Crisis Core or Dirge extras, Action RPG "realistic system".

Nomura always wanted to do that in VersusXIII....maybe he will achieve it with this remake lol.

huh? where did they say we'd get different scenes? What was shown in the trailer are scenes from FF7.

What I mean by different are the new scenes in the trailer that was shown like the kids in the playground.
Nothing drastic but something to add to the feel of the game.

So...if the cross-dressing part of the game is still in, Cloud's going to dress up as Lightning, right?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I think it's going to happen.

I do not want this happen.

Realistic doesn't mean ARPG, specially when you consider what Nomura said about characters moving back and forth from a line

But if you guys want to go crazy by jumping to conclusions just like what happened when the first info on XV's battle system surfaced be my guest

If this really is an Action RPG, I'm out. I really don't need another one of these games, considering that's all we get on HD consoles.

I guess this is the reality of AAA console development, gotta appeal to the lowest common denominator. Super depressing.

We all be like leaving seven eleven with our copies of FF :)

All I want is to control all my characters in battle.

Yeah...if it goes ARPG, I don't see that happening at all. We might...might get lucky and get some sort of gambit system. I'd rather have ATB than go full action, but it seems like even that is "outdated" as far as gameplay goes. Makes me sad really.

At least we can look to Atlus for more traditional RPG combat.

No new characters is comforting. I want it to stay faithful to the original script as much as possible. Realistic system though :/ Guess the chances of it being a real-time ARPG is higher than ATB turn-based now. Fuck.

“Final Fantasy VII is special, and we can’t ‘exceed’ the game by simply making the graphics nicer. That’s not a thing to be excited about.

“Precisely because it’s a full remake, I want to challenge what’s fun and what’s possible now.”

I feel optimistic about this remake. Kitase really cares about this game and is very hands on with this project according to Verendus. Nomura is saying all the right things, seems like he's having fun and appears to be motivated.

Unless I see or hear something I don't like I won't worry to much.

Versus XIII's ideas of having each character be fundamentally mechanically different to the degree that Prompto would play like a TPS (with aiming and headshots and weakpoints) sounded like a total development nightmare and I really don't want that in any game.

I'm into people having different hitstun properties and different combo speeds and stuff but let's keep it all within one genre, please.

And regardless, I'm not a fan of the idea of ARPG combat in FFVII. I'm totally down for FFX-2 or FFXII stuff, since those are turn-based and not ARPG, but ARPGs fundamentally need to have vastly smaller and less diverse movesets because it's all got to fit into your basic button arrangement. I enjoy the hell out of Kingdom Hearts, but it'd be a big bummer to have a combat design that is fundamentally incapable of having, for example, the Enemy Skill or Master Command materia be a thing.

A row of allies and a row of enemies facing each other in 2015 would be laughable, though. It's got to have presentation at least as modern as FFXII, I think.

Exactly how I feel.

Also, I actually want this to have kind of a different feel to it.
I've been playing the original FFVII for almost 20 years and that version will always be there to go back and nostalgia wank to. If they have to adjust the combat, so be it. If they want to change the visual appearance, fine. As long as the heart of the original's story is still there, I'm good. If this gives the original creators an opportunity to explore ideas & themes in a more detailed way than they could in '97, perfect.

Fclvat sbe Pnanqn, ru?
I was sorta hoping for something ATB 2.0, building on the (then) new ideas and concepts Final Fantasy X and Bravely Default featured, for example. Maybe unrealistic knowing how SE internally seems to look at ATB as a concept.

ATB 2.0 is basically what FFX-2 has and it's fucking great.

We don't even know what they plan to do exactly we will have to wait and see.

But with all these little details coming out it's nice to see how excited he is about this project.

Type-0 combat system is already very similar to Versus XIII's.

If the combat system is an evolution of Type-0's with materias and limit breaks I'd be VERY satisfied.

What worries me is that FF7 had like 300 different enemies and developing hit boxes and such for all of them...

I'm really curious how much of the world and towns/cities/dungeons will be 3d models vs pre rendered backdrops.

Assuming his team goes the way of RE REmake, there will presumably be high quality pre rendered backdrops and character models will be 3D modeled. Weapons and accessories will also be 3D modeled and reflected on your equipment change, but no clothing change.

I'm also curious if the team will redo all of the CGI.

I'm excited to read more about those kind of details.

People need to chill out and put down the razor blades. God damn.

This is why I wish Nomura stop dropping these vague description of what the new battle system would be like. It only raises anxiety, uncertainty, and uneasiness. Wait till it's ready to be shared, then come out and tell/show us how the battle system works.

But...I'm trying to shave here.

We don't know anything and I'm sure no matter what happens we will all end up buying and playing the game when it comes out. I think people are more concerned that SE will make some drastic changes to the battle system and will negatively impact the game as a whole.

He being vague because he won't have the details hammered until it goes into full production in a few years.

My guess, and this is only a guess, is that they are actually modeling all the enviorments to be realitime, not pre-rendered, however they will have the camera semi-fixed. It'll move for action oriented things, and battles will take place on the field where the camera zoomes in and becomes dynamic.

I do not see them going with baked pre-rendered backgrounds, that would limit the scalability of the game in the future. It makes far more sence that everything is rendered and beautiful, and maybe keeping the fixed camera but letting it move around sometimes.

As for the people saying to chill out.... get out of the thread, we have 2 years (or more) to have fun thinking about all the ways this game could go. This thread is fun hearing all the ideas and worry and excitment. Its all part of the process. For many of us, this is our holy grail of gaming. Honestly I could see this being my last major game I ever play, as I've more or less stop playing games like I use to as a young adult. Now I play maybe 2 or 3 major releases a year and thats dwindling. I have a feeling many of the crazy fanboys of this game are the same age as me and are likely in similar possitions in their lives. This could be our final great game to look forward to, and I'm going to spend the time hyping it and loving every piece of info that comes out. The game will never, ever live up to the "Best game of all time" hype we have for it, but thats ok, as I already played the best game ever made, 18 years ago :)

It's silly to argue this when there are already boatloads of turn based JRPGs out there. I fail to see how you need "another one of those" either.

And stop acting like ARPG's cater to some "lowest common denominator" as if FFVII was comparable to quantum physics or something. Anyone can finish it.

So no Active Time Battle (not turn-based) ;(

And I agree. FFVII and TLOU = Best games ever (to me).
But if it is "action-heavy" ala all these Action RPGs these days, I'm out.
I fear for the worst.

True. Would buy it day 1 if it has the FFX-2 battle system.

Just when I thought my breakup with Lightning was final..

Edit... Looks like it is :)

I'm more worried about the Materia System. Will I be able to combine Final Attack + Phoenix? How about my KotR + HP Absorb / KotR + MP Absorb / Mime?

Or will it be completely new. Beyond that, I'm interested to see what Final Fantasy VII is like in 2017 or whatever year they release it.
