I think both of you are saying the same thing...
I mean sure I prefer a locked 60fps over a lot of things but I really can't see how they couldn't get at least 2 people running 60 on some of these arena maps at the very least. I can understand campaign maybe.

Now you face a situation where black ops 3 might have more features of past halo games than halo 5:

Dedicated Coop mode
Split screen in campaign and mp
Possible campaign theater

I mean, what the fuck is happening?

Did Warzone and spectator mode really take up all the resources? Where's campaign theater? Why couldn't they just add an ai wave mode to Warzone and drop 4 players in there to fend them off? Bam, firefight. Why couldn't they have campaign theater when spectator mode is half the battle?

Sure, you're a new studio building new tech from the ground up but at some point you need to identify with your fan base. We expect feature parity as consoles get stronger and franchises evolve, not the other way around.

PSA: The ODST free code expires tomorrow.

Also I have one spare to give away, PM me with your favorite ODST moment and the code is yours, first come first serve.

As Wesley said, there was never a real blind jump. Cortana figured there might be something at the location which they gleaned from the Cote de Azur artifact. Halsey needing to send Cortana to the Autumn with stuff to save us all was another Bungie retcon, although you could argue it actually had a purpose in the story to make Noble Six and co. not just die for nothing.

If you want to get extra tinfoil-y with it, you could also argue more in favor of the "Forerunner Rosetta Stone" side of things, which is what allowed Cortana to properly interpolate all the information she gleaned from Alpha Halo's databanks (Control Room, Cartographer, etc.) as well, and it (in addition to the obvious mantle stuff) are what allowed Cortana and Chief to actually activate various buttons and holo-panels on Alpha / Delta Halo. Basically Noble Team's sacrifice allowed Cortana to actually understand everything that was going on during the Battle of Installation 04, whereas if they weren't there Chief probably would have died in the original Bumblebee crash without having a proper landing vector.

There should be no framerate over resolution. Both should be in a good condition. I dont really care about 60fps if the game i play looks like shit thanks to the low resolution and aliasing.

Fine of you to think that if you value visuals over performance.

But that 60 fps makes the game play and feel so good.

There's no magical bright line, which is why I don't see what's worth arguing about at this point. Is a rock-solid 60 worth a 640p image and no AA? What about a 720p with 4x MSAA though the framerate dips to 50fps? Would 30fps be acceptable if you got a full 1080p image with all the bells and whistles of a PC title?

It'll either look and play well when it launches or not.

...WAT!?

Did I walk in to crazy town and take some Looney pills!???

343 what's happening? I'm still stoked for Halo 5, and I'm certainly not gonna jump the gun here, but this news... sheesh. Especially when we were told split screen would at least be in the final game.

What does Rod Fergusson mean when he says Gears will support lan?

If it's true LAN then it just means Gears has peer-to-peer netcode in it. Which is understandable since Unreal Engine had it since day one (on PC, they're called Listen Servers). Gears tends to not have a lot of moving things in it's MP matches anyway.

I don't think there's been a single Gears release that has been all-dedis. Gears 3 had them but you had to buy all of the DLC to even be on them. Gears 2 had secret dedicated servers sometimes as a testbed for 3. Gears PC had both dedis and client sessions afiak.

Josh Holmes just confirmed it on Twitter and the Xbox Games Store listing for Halo 5 says you can only play with one player on one console. A lot can change in six months.

HEADS UP 343 messed up again!

If you did not redeem the free ODST code, it has disappeared from your console message despite it is not 30th yet! It happened to the code which I was going to give away, and the XBO support forum has been flooded with same issues.

Yeah I saw that.

I just can't understand what changed it. Like... I know Frankie said it's not something anybody wanted or is happy about, and I don't doubt him, but what the hell? What about Halo 5 could be so taxing on the console that it couldn't handle having two players on the screen? Why not drop the graphics a bit so you can hold the framerate? The game looks beautiful already so it should still look decent if it's a bit downgraded.

Of course my understanding of game programming and what not is extremely basic. So I could very well be missing something. I just don't get how fucking Call of Duty can handle it fine but Halo 5 can't for some reason. Perhaps that's a false equivalence though.

Just... blegh. I don't even play split screen much but I know plenty of people who do and it is a hell of a lot of fun as anybody who's done it should know.

That sounds more like an Xbox LIVE thing, but whatever.

Yeah I would settle for 30fps split screen coop.

Expecting Theatre to be removed too.

It's kinda terrible that Halo games get less features now with every new game. I miss the days of retention, upgrading and additions. Expecting the game web services to be similar downgraded as well.

Theater is in. Spectator mode is practically a glorified theater mode.

Because people like you will defend it saying "if it had to be done for 60fps, then so be it. So silky, so smooth, :wow: can't go back"
True. I don't like the fact that I won't be able to play Halo 5 with my nephew split screen but we can possibly LAN, connect online, or just take turns with the controller haha

RIP Halo

Well, that's just them converting to jpeg. The One can clearly do PNG.

That doesn't re-render the scene @ 4K and ramp up the texture quality for screenshots.

Go into Y cam in theater, hide HUD, double tap guide button and press Y.

Done.

I dunno, if street fighter or DMC (excluding the reboot) played below 60fps the games would eat inputs like crazy.

too be fair the new consoles weren't made to run 60fps games willy nilly, but once the remasters and titanfall launched it became the new "standard".

So now devs have to find work arounds.

Hey HaloGAF, not sure if I should post this here, but I just got my hands on an Xbox One with MCC. This is my first chance to dip my toes back into Halo in years, I used to play a ton of Halo 3 and Reach, but I need a new posse of people to play with. I'm decent, but admittedly rusty since I haven't played in a few years.

I'll also definitely be getting Halo 5.

If anyone wants to play with me, add me on XBL: BlastoTheHanar

So I just went 61 for 10 in a CTF game.

They were just running at my bullets.

I got 7 killing sprees and a killing frenzy. Also managed to cap a flag.

That was quite fun.

I want to say not really? I mean most ppl nowadays are into CoD split screen than Halo. To be brutally honest.
More people are into CoD than Halo, to be brutally honest. That said, I see people playing with guests nearly every day on MCC.

It's also, like, the sole reason Halo multiplayer ever became popular. That's how I was introduced to it. That's how I hoped to play Halo 5 with friends who don't own an Xbox this generation.

It gives folks a distinct lack of confidence about the series going in a new direction when you can't even handle the series fundamentals properly.

I got into Halo via Campaign splitscreen co-op. I have thoroughly used and enjoyed this feature on every mainline Halo game to date. Removing or omitting the feature will severely impact my enjoyment of the series.

So thanks in advance.

No, it's not the same at all. And Spectator is multiplayer only.

How is it not the same? It is literally Theater except you could spectate live games and you could fast forward, pause and rewind.

If you want to deny that it's built off the theater mode, then good for you.
