Pokemon that are the wrong type

There were originally 15 types of Pokemon, and it has since been expanded to 18. Some Pokemon have even had their types changed over the years (Gen VI had the Great Fairy Migration). Some of these are pretty obvious. Pikachu is an electric mouse, so he's electric type. Butterfree is a butterfly, so he is a bug/flying hybrid. However, sometimes they got it oh so wrong. Share which Pokemon you think are completely the wrong type.

I nominate Lugia.

He lives in the ocean and is known as the guardian of the seas. You catch him in the Whirl Islands, a place known for, you guessed it, whirlpools. And what type is he? Psychic/Flying. Huh? He should obviously be Water or Water/Flying. In the original games, he learned ONE psychic move... at level 99. He learned two water moves and hell, even a ROCK move before he finally got a psychic one. By Gen VI he actually learns three psychic moves, but you can tell that was just tacked on to validate making him Psychic/Flying.

Also Flygon, who is Ground/Dragon. When I think of the ground and dragons, I think of giant flying bugs.

The original ghost pokemon (ghastly/haunter/gengar) how they had the posion type attatched.

Of course they would have incredibly OP if they were pure ghost type back in red/blue/yellow.

Well, Flygon develops from an antlion and IIRC he has Levitate as his ability right?
Oh and these comics are apt

I always felt like Phanphy should be part normal

And with this scene from the anime

I feel Dunsparce should part flying or something now

I always felt they'd be fitting as Water/Dark and Water/Psychic respectively. Seems Creatures Inc. agree with me as in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia they were given Dark and Psychic type assists, the only Pokémon with assists that didn't match their type.

This will be corrected in generation 9 when they add tripple type pokemon.

Triple type Pokémon sort of exist now. I even made a competitive video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-LxIYygfd4

Gyarados, Charizard, Aerodactyl, all dragons

Nah, Flygon is properly typed. Yanmega though? Why in the fuck is the DRAGONfly not DRAGON type?

Masquerain too, who thought it was a good idea to make the only Bug/Water type (if there's been another since then I forget) into another bug/flying type?

One that's always baffled me is Psyduck and Golduck. Why are they both pure Water-type? They should be Water/Psychic. Psyduck's whole thing is the interaction of its headaches and Psychic-powers, but nothing. I don't get it.

Skiddo and Gogoat should be Normal/Grass, pure Grass just looks weird given their design (especially next to comparable dual-typed designs that are part Normal, such as Pyroar and Sawsbuck).

Yeah, Dark/Electric is a potential killer combo

It also always bugged me that Luxray is relatively underpowered and restricted to the NU tier. Same with Pyroar. They're based on lions, for god's sake. Make them fearsome! (And why is Luxray so slow?)

I agree with all these.

My contributions.

Should have been Psychic/Flying

He's better off as normal/flying: he gets a ghost immunity, can rampage all over fighting types due to his psychic and flying moves, and can destroy all ghost types since he also gets access to shadow ball. If anything he needs more speed.

Volcarona:

It's Bug Fire, which makes sense, but then when you think of Beautifly:

It's Bug Flying.

Both are constantly flying but it doesn't make sense for Volcarona to also not be a Flying type.

Imo Flying shouldn't be a Type - it needs to get abolished into other types or it becomes an ability like Levitate.

That's ridiculous. Flying should be a type. Not everything with wings needs to be Flying

Either Inkay or Malamar should've been Psychic/Dark

I see what you did there...!

I feel some the "cute legendaries" should have been retconned as fairies, namely Celebi, Jirachi and Victini.

Speaking of fairies, Milotic should be Water/Fairy and Florges should be Fairy/Grass, not only to match it better thematically, but also to help set it apart from Sylveon.

Flying is technically the wind-element, so I disagree.

The ones that have always annoyed me are:

Supposedly, Scraggy and Scrafty (Dark/Fighting-type) have a rubbery skin. Rubber-like materials are insulators, but those Pokémon are normally affected by Electric-type moves. Should be Ground-type, or at least have an ability that handles this feature.

Also not sure why Ekans/Arbok weren't retconned to Dark-type. I mean, look at it!

Not to mention that Gen I had plenty pure Poison-types to begin with.
