Yves Guillemot: "We learned from the mistakes we made with Watch Dogs"

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
That's nice, hopefully they've learnt well enough and we'll never see a sequel.
"Men, what have we learned from this new IP that sold a shit ton and received generally positive reception?"

"Let's not make a sequel to improve on the flaws, especially not a next gen only sequel that gives us a shit ton more headroom for the scale of the world"

"Brilliant!'

only Watch_Dogs? that game atleast ran well.

So they havn't learnt anything from the turn Assassisn's Creed ..UNITY ??

Much of the current marketing campaign for Syndicate is Ubisoft saying "We know Unity was broken, we're being transparent about this one and showing you honest gameplay from an actual build of the game"

Which has resulted in a lot of negativity on its own because a work in progress build is not as pretty as a vertical slice and then people can go crazy over that and make a meme joke.

I really enjoyed the gameplay and world. Super solid gunplay and some fun hacking levels.

The main problem is the main character. They either need to make him better or just push him off to the side as supporting and focus on a new hero. Also give us better supporting characters.

But overall, I liked the game and hope they improve upon on what they have. It suffered a bit from repetition ala AC1 but it didn't have any super lame collectibles like flags.

We´ll see how much they learned next E3 when they show a new Tom Clancy´s Ghost Recon Wildlands gameplay demo.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
While I don't think people should be crying foul, they (Massive), have already stated that they have reduced the fidelity of assets (globally) in order to accommodate development on multiple platforms.

I'm saying that taking games Ubisoft showed off prior to E3 2015 and using them as counter-points to this recent statement is only possible if the footage revealed circa E3 2015 is visibly superior to what's on display in the final products or later footage releases. The point being, posts like "The Division is going to continue the cycle" aren't exactly logical since we don't yet have post-E3 2015 footage to compare.

This. People pretending Watch_Dogs is the worst game ever annoy me to no end. It had some good points--far more than enough to make a sequel that's worth playing.

Usually when an executive says they learned the lessons from their past mistakes it means they want to sell you something and hope you forgot.

I expect there should be an apology for AC Unity in august sometime just before the next pr wave.

The downgrade was the least of the game's problems. Most of the problems came from Ubisoft's patented open world game design they use for every single game they make. At this point it's lazy for how many people they have working on these games.

I think people are making the statement based on the previously released footage of the Division and the fact that it looks better than the 2015 footage. Obviously such "continue the cycle" statement is a bit silly given that this is a new policy that can only come into effect for new projects.

In the watchdogs cycle, the initial footage was the best, and the subsequent showings were a lot less impressive but on par with what was released. Essentially what I'm saying is that people making the cycle statements will ignore the 2015 footage of the Division when crying about downgrades which might happen. I'm saying this based on footage and comments by Massive, will probably will also impact the PC version vis-a-vis the demo they showed at E3 2013.

They already apologized for AC Unity, multiple times in fact.

I will cut them some slack. Ubisoft is a fantastic company that makes fun games. Watch Dogs could have been better but it certainly was above average.

As someone who is currently playing Watch Dogs on Steam/Uplay, holy shit does it perform like complete dogshit at times. Now I don't have a completely ridiculous PC, but it should eat this for breakfast.

none of their AAA releases since watch dogs have been downgraded, rainbow six's alpha matched the E3 reveal (it was never pushing graphics to begin with though),
and ac syndicate didn't have a swanky demo as its reveal, just some alpha gameplay which was underwhelming - highly improbable that gets "downgraded".

but then there is still the division and ghost recon cocaine lands to look at. the former looks hit and miss in certain areas of the game, you could argue it's another one
of those pre console launch games so will suffer the same fate. ghost recon has a couple of things that are in favour of it not suffering from a downgrade (the demo not being
a simple vertical slice but with plenty of assets on display, and development beginning later than stuff like watch dogs.)

the logical thing to do is just wait and see, taking everything with a grain of salt, at least until they manage to establish a track record of accurate reveals, its gonna take some time though.

For me, the graphics wasn't the problem with Watch_Dogs.

The bigger issue was that the game was boring.
For sure, but bad games will always be made now and again, even from proven developers. People will accept bad games, but not be misled over and over again at these hype events. It's a different class of frustration.

They said the same with Unity, and after plating Syndicate demo, I'll not fall for that again.

I'm totally off for Ubisoft games.

Yeah, they're saying starting from this E3 they only showed stuff running on the target systems, so The Division doesn't count

Now if any of the games they showed at this E3 come out and look worse than they did at this E3, then we can ready the pitchforks (and there is a chance this will happen) Though I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic

They have addressed the issues with Unity several times already, I think even going as far as to say the PC version (of the new AC) will be fantastic, and the graphics don't seem as insane this time around, so hopefully they're at least looking to get it running at a decent frame rate

It's easy to be cynical, and there is even good reason for it, but they really need to sort these things out or it will translate to fewer sales, so I'm sure it is something they're taking seriously

I still remember watching Invisible Walls back then and how they were debating if it was current gen (PS3/360) or next-gen footage.
I literally face-palmed lol.
To think the game ended up not looking like that even on next-gen, lol.

That being said, I thought this would be about other issues the game had.

Anyway, some more PR to fill the BS file.

You know what, I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about this.

Of all the 'big evil publishers' making poor decisions, Ubisoft is the one who seems most concerned with responding to feedback.

They remain a slow-moving behemoth of a corporation so course corrections still suffer from inertia and poor communication but I believe they're genuinely trying. Since this particular course correction is a recent thing, I'm sure the behemoth will still lurch and crush a few good intentions underfoot before they get it under control.

Cool, but the game looked fine.

The issues were rather the unrefined gameplay and Aiden.
Unrefined certainly isn't how I would describe the gameplay, shooting, stealth and movement were the most polished parts of the core gameplay. Racing could be improved, because the areas that were less technically advanced, (Pawnee) were not good for chases since there weren't nearly as many chase breakers.

That's a lot of viewpoints/satelite dishes/towers/hackables you're not going to be able to secure.

I never understood this line of thinking, If you don't like doing that then don't, you can just ignore it it's not mandatory. There's like one tower where you have to do this and it's at the beginning of the game.

If the game was fun to play I don't think the graphics downgrade would have stung as bad as it did. But alas the game was mediocre in the eyes of many and therefore gamers really let Ubi hear about the visual downgrades
