So why is is in Off Topic now? Or should I assume I know why?

Halo isn't a video game anymore, it's an experience.

Just include a disk! Who cares if the CE is shipping before other copies. People are paying $250, might as well let them play a bit earlier.

I just want to play earlier. T_T

I'm one of the weird ones who is happy with the LCE as is, I guess. I'm all-digital this gen on the Xbone, and getting a steelbook to sit next to the old titles on the shelf is a nice bonus.

The idea of shipping a CE early is stupid. Makes no sense have one SKU with an earlier release date.
The idea of a $250 SKU not coming with the game on a disc is even more stupid than that.

Yeah, considering how day-one patches, mandatory installs, and preloads are just going to become more and more common, having a physical disc becomes less and less beneficial.

Eh, I totally understand why people like having discs (in a lot of cases I do too) but personally I love the way 343 is doing the CE. I'm not getting it because I don't want any of the pther stuff, but with Destiny for example I like all the physical CE stuff but I hate that it's on a disc. Throwing in an empty steelbook complicates things though I guess.

It's tough to satisfy everyone though without making everything even more complicated by having a standard edition, a limited edition, and two nearly-but-not-quite-identical CEs.

The way I see it, if you are charging hundreds of >insert currency here<, you can afford to chuck in a disc that costs pennies.

I for one will be really upset if they shoehorn a disc in now. I was really pleased when I found out it's digital.

I get a physical collectors item, I still get to play on launch night, I get a case for my collection, everyone wins.

What is the point of the disc? Is it just reducing bandwidth?

It's hard to sell a digital copy to gamestop, amigo.

Maybe throw a replica disc into that steelbook case, it's not like you can keep a cloud or online multiplayer based game to play offline years later.

I was happy with the week early, a steelbook for the shelf and digital myself. It would/will be cool to sort through everything in the CE while waiting for the official release. Now I sort of hope they actually give both digital and a real disc a week early. Pay bucks for early access and also become 1 week early real world gamma testers to the full release.
that one is for free :)

Fair, but personally I value the convenience of a digital version vs having to deal with a disc.

This.

I can appreciate that some people still prefer physical, and the reasons why, but the LCE having a digital copy was actually a pretty big plus for me. Hope that whatever solution they cook up doesn't involve axing the BK edition w/ the code.

well, i suppose now's a good a time as any to get started on my kickstarter for Promethean Nights: Book One of the Greg Twink Trilogy, detailing the depraved exploits of a spry young Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting and his spirit hijacker grizzled mentor Shadow-of-Sundered-Star

Paying for the CE and getting the game early would cause Bungie scale bad PR.

#NoSuchThingAsBadPress, not that I believe that wholeheartedly.

Also Bungie had a ton of great and bad press over the years, they made out just fine. I think after MCC it's an easy PR spin that CE owners help test the final build and patches for public consumption. Also allow multiplayer streams etc but lock campaign out for that week. As in don't even allow CE owners access to play the campaign until midnight launch.
