iOS Gaming July 2015 | Apple bans the revolution

Hero Emblems is a match 3, has a nice cartoony presentation.

+1

It can be brutally hard, but it's the first match three game that really nails the RPG side IMO. Takes a lot of strategy to get through bosses, in particular, requiring certain skills and buffs/debuffs, etc. Far from a Candy Crush game and one of the best of this year's releases this far.

I've been playing Lifeline and it's a really interesting concept that I'd like to see more games pursuing. It's basically a choose your path text adventure, but you're communicating directly with a character stranded on a moon through text messages. Sometimes he goes through long stretches without replying because he's busy with something, etc (you unlock a fast mode feature later on, but it's supposed to be used only when you're replaying parts you already read).

It wears its The Martian by Andy Weir influences on its sleeve, that's another fun thing about it for someone who read the book like me. I can't speak for the story as a whole, but I'm liking the bite-sized chunks so far.

If they ever let you enable Fast Mode after your first failure of a particular section, I'd probably recommend it. Without it, the game grinds to a halt after your first fail state.
I had Taylor
die in the first night in the wreckage
and fast mode was unlocked right after I restarted. It was definitely an oversight if you could only enable it after you beat the game, so maybe they patched it?

Just to clarify. If by "violent", you mean bloody or gory, it isn't at all. As More_Badass mentioned it is a a hack n' slash, but it's a great game if you are looking for an action RPG with a much different feel than Zelda. I'd check out reviews of even the console versions since it is identical in content tailored to touch screens.

Thanks man. Unfortunately it seems it's not on Android but I'll check it out on my iPad.

Alto's Adventure is a gorgeous endless runner with no IAP.

If you like Ace Attorney, Dual Destinies is available

I haven't played any AA, I've got some of those for DS so I'll try those first. Thank you!

(Not a match 3 fan but I'll tell my wife about the game as she is. Not a runner guy either but thanks!)

Hero Emblem is more of an RPG with a match-3 battle system. Has a ton of content too, really challenging

Not even when they're premium and as gorgeous as this?

Hey guys ! How are you doing ? Couldn't put much ipad time in my schedule these last few weeks.

I just wanted to say that after Tales from Deep Space, Magic Duels skipping on Ipad 4 hurts. A lot. A fucking awful lot. I feel that dark times are coming for my little tablet. But 700 bucks for a new one with 128Go will be next to impossible to budget.
I'm in a very good mood, yep.

Oh man, this is good.

They have a Crossy Roads system where you can win a new character on each level, and I believe a chance at the "Rare" tier of characters if you score high enough. The characters actually give you bonuses based on word length, and use of certain letters.

Give this one a spin if you like puzzle word games.

Thanks for the headsup, friend. This game is so good.

Not sure if the devs of Adventures with Pip made some kind of change on their end with Game Center, but the game finally works without having to log off of GC.

I'd still advise staying away anyway until the controls are tweaked. I'd imagine it's very difficult on an iPhone, particularly when I still clobber myself on a Mini 2.

There's quite a ruckus over at TA regarding the price increase from the early adopter sale for $4.99 to its full $14.99 price. I'm all for premium games, but I am worried for the dev on this one. With more high profile ports like Transistor and Don't Starve selling for $9.99 and $4.99 respectively, this game could get the short end of the stick.

Not that the game isn't worth $15, but just being realistic. I hate to see any dev, especially one selling premium games, fail.

Just got a backer e-mail from backing the Kickstarter of Moebius stating that the 20th Anniversary Edition of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers will be coming to iPad (and Android) on July 23rd.

I haven't played this remake, and have no desire to, but the original is a fantastic point-and-click adventure.

Based on Steam user reviews, it seems to be pretty good. But the lack of the original voice cast (Tim Curry, Leah Remini, Mark Hamill) is a major downside and has made me not want to check it out. Hopefully this remake has brought new fans to the series.

That's strange. I failed on each day and it specifically called out that I unlocked Fast Mode at the end of the game. Unless it was always there and it was just pointing it out?

Either way, playing through days you've already failed is not fun, especially without Fast Mode. Really soured the experience for me.

Isn't it?! I haven't played enough to know, but it seems like you're given a puzzle a day to complete, which accumulates wins towards unlocking more challenging stages? There's plenty of nefarious looking currencies and timers, but it's quite fun at its core.

Also, it appears you have to reach a scoring threshold to win an egg, which hatches any random bear for your collection. Either I got lucky or they tried to set their hooks in me, because my first bear was a rare "Easy Bear". What'd you get, dream?

Friends, if you're reading, play Alphabear. Look at these friggin' bears.

App Store - Free

Haven't posted in this thread in a long damn time, but to be honest I've not played anything on my phone in as long either..

Anyway back when, it was still kosher to promote one's own game in this thread, if it's not anymore than please let me know. Anyway I've released my first iOS title in like.. years, it's free w/ ads in-between rounds.

A jumping game! You're a hamburger! Collect condiments to build your burger - get stars & secrets bonuses to crank up your score, but watch out for bombs and falling off the screen!

Anyway, the game is obviously super-simple - after my previous effort (I made a mobile game that was too complex for it's own good!) I decided to swing the other direction and make something cute and light, but it's still really fun actually. (I'm not gonna waste my time pimping something on this forum if I think it is drivel). I do have another "way more complex" game coming in maybe a month or so for iOS (get it on Android now if you cannot wait) which was put together with the help of a couple other gaffers. Until then I hope you guys will give JumpBurger a try and give the usual support if you do like it. Thank you!

My iPad mini retina is now jailbroken. Wow, if I knew it was so easy I would have done it ages ago. It took me like... 3 minutes? Very simple stuff.

Emulators, here I come! Yahoooo! Shame there's no Drastic (DS emulator) for iOS, jailbreak or not. Well, at least there's PPSSPP.

iOS has a DS emulator:

If I remember, it's quite good. The audio can get a bit wonky though.

I know. It's isn't nearly as good as Drastic though. Drastic gives way more customization options for screens and controls and allows you to raise the internal resolution to 2x the original, which is a huge visual boost. Not to mention filters. NDS4iOS is really basic and as far as I'm aware it isn't even supported anymore, unfortunately.

Okay :) Just wanted to make sure you knew about it. But yeah, it's a shame that it isn't on the level of GBAiOS or other great emulators.

Which other good emulatores are available on Cydia? I'm only aware of PPSSPP. I thought Reicast (DC emulator) was available, but apparently it's not. :(

Interesting sales info on Sproggiwood:

$14.99 on Steam, $9.99 on iOS/Android.

Over the first 14 days of our mobile release, we sold:

~3300 units on iOS (~236 / day)
~800 units on Android (~57 / day)
Compare this to the first 14 days of our desktop release, where we sold:

~1800 units on Steam + Humble (~129 / day)

all three platforms eventually leveled off to the same.

14 Days In, Mobile > Steam
This is the big one. Contrary to the prevailing wisdom regarding premium games, our mobile release solidly outperformed our Steam release.

While we were selling 5x as many units on iOS than we were on Android over the first few days, those numbers have converged. Fourteen days in, we sold ~40 units on iOS and ~35 on Android

As of two weeks ago, they'd baselined to around 28 units/day on iOS and 13 units/day on Android. Second, due to some shuffling of the Pay Once & Pay page and a fortuitous inclusion in Apple's 15 Most Epic RPGs feature, our App Store sales have jumped back up to 64 units/day over the last two weeks.

Rodeo Games is teasing some big news today regarding Warhammer: 40,000 Deathwatch Tyranid Invasion. We may have a release date today :) (I hope Pitta won't die from an heart attack ;) )

Anyone else playing Don't Starve?

July's been really good. Six OP-worthy releases so far: Heroki, Adventures of Pip, Alphabear, The Executive, Divide By Sheep, Don't Starve

Can someone on iOS9 check whether Final Fantasy V plays correctly? It boots for me but then crashes to the home screen after a couple of seconds.

Since we had mentioned the success of Sproggiwood, I personally haven't bought it yet but have had it on my wish list.

I've been playing Crowntakers off and on (too many games!) and haven't even come close to beating it. How would you say Sproggiwood compares? Is the "grow your civilization" a big part,of the game (not really into that kind of thing)?

Also, Penny Dreadful fans, looks like a mobile game is coming. CCG/RPG?

And completely off topic, what a Hannibal episode last night! Someone needs to save this show

Updated to iOS 9, everything seems to run as it should with no crashes. Plus now I can side-load all the apps I used to use while jailbroken but signed under my own account legitimately instead. Win win!

None of the Final Fantasy main series are currently working on iOS9 according to reports online.

Ugggghhhhhh, Alphabear... First you make me shell out $5 to get rid of the honey energy bullcrap.

Now comes the truth: Internet connection is required. I can't stand this, and it is by far my least favorite thing about mobile gaming. I do 90% of my gaming on the subway going to and from work. It's the only time I ever have to play games of any kind. Sure, NYC is expanding underground cell service, but as soon as the game loses service everything comes to a grinding halt until it connects again. It's complete horseshit.

Til Morning's Light is on sale for $3.99. Was on the fence on it, but it looks like a fun lighthearted adventure game so this pushed me over the edge.

I wish I could, but unfortunately I only have an iPad mini 1. Unfortunately, it seems like most people didn't read the compatibility warning, as the game has been hit hard in the reviews for not being compatible with the devices people have.

Honestly, the internet connection thing is my biggest complaint about the game. It's super fun and addicting, but it's a real drag to have that limitation on the game.

Sadly, the same thing is happening with Heroki.
