Blog post!

Well, I had a typical bipolar week. Really high all week, out, doing things and then bang when we went to a food festival in Tatton Park I suddenly started crying and decided I wanted to die :/

Thankfully for the very first time in my life I allowed people to see me in my state, went out for a few drinks and opened up. OPENED UP.

And I've recovered enough to respond to a bunch of musicians' messages, get a new amp, book a trip to London to see an old friend and list some stuff on eBay. I'm kind of proud of myself, even if I have to keep doing stuff to make sure my mood drops.

I also found Father Gascoigne and realised that I need to find the Cleric Beast first. Which I have now done. Hi dude! Can't we be friends? Why can't we be friends :`(

How is everyone?

Doing alright.

We have a new guy called Luigi who's probably going to move in with us. Already says he likes the room and the house, just waiting for confirmation.

Workwise, starting to formulate plans to move onto something else. Been here for four months and while I like the people I work with a lot, it's a mickey mouse operation. They keep adding new customers for the team to support without giving us anything close to proper training. Just recently we started supporting FCUK. We got half an hour in a room to take in all this information on a new interface we have to use to log calls, which isn't designed for call logging and that's it. The process we have to go through to remotely connect to these stores is ridiculously convoluted to further confuse things. Now they want people doing late shifts to work from 3PM to 11PM instead of 2PM to 10PM to support the stores they have in the US. Which means it'll be midnight before I get home from one of those and because a clown does our rota its inevitable that they'll want me in at some stupid time like 8AM the day after a late shift. It's just a mess, and some of the people with the most expertise and working knowledge of the accounts want to leave in September, after which all the work they did will be divided between those left. So I can just see it no longer being a fun place to work.

So there's a place within walking distance of my house offering a similar job, that pays better, would look good on my CV, has a gym and canteen, and probably isn't run by hapless oafs. To make things sweeter, they have poached plenty of people from where I am currently in the past so that's some extra grease on the wheels. I'm thinking wait a while till I have six months under my belt then move on if things are sucky.

Also, you all should watch Hannibal and True Detective.

...sploat, keep on keepin' on mane.

I'm pretty good, work is hectic with the new site starting to need more of my time but I like the pressure, it's invigorating. Had a decent if chilled weekend, just had a good spruce of the house today with the bro. Just off into town for a few beers with some pals now.

All in all, no' bad ay.

War Peaceman

You're a big guy.
Doing alright.

#YearOfLuigi

Hannibal is far too indulgent and monotone. It is clearly well made and performed but it is just too much for me.

Is TD season 2 up to season 1's pedigree? I've heard mixed reports.

People need to watch Sense8. It is the closest thing to Lost. Well, Lost meets Cloud Atlas. It is made by the Wachowskis and Tom Twyker (Run Lola Run). Very diverse - lesbians, a transgender character(played by transgender actor, no less), different races etc. - and very fun. It has lots of problems with cheesy writing but its optimism and general sense of goodness makes up for it.

Also, good work to sploatee on the life progress. Which is a really weird way of wording it but oh well.

here we go:
work is shit, my manager is an inept man-child. need to finally get my arse into gear and work on getting a better job. my girlfriend's job is safe for the next 18 months or so as they the estate agents lowered the rent on the building she's in so yayy.
dragon age: inquesition is a disgusting mess on the 360, bless it. it's an okay game but i've just gone and ordered the art book so maybe i won't even need the game anymore.
i haven't touched my music in over a month, since my computer died. i've developed some kind of dread of finding just how much progress i've lost on my projects. i feel creatively drained. huff.
other than that, finished the first a song of ice & fire book, the game of thrones. was alright. wanted to carry on but i've no idea where i've hidden the other books.

Thanks for the good wishes, guys. I'll probably pop a brain fart at some time in the next month and decide that I'm better off dead, but that's the nature of my brain sadly. Thanks, though.

Good luck with it, daps. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you make it sound. x

Good luck with the jobbing, Mr Skeletonium.

I've given up with Dragon Age. Bloodborne is more my kind of thing - madness, body horror, relentless misery and perpetual night.

Do you play bass? Do you sing backing vocals? Are your political sympathies left-of-centre? I might be going into a recording studio in a couple of weeks with a guy who was in a popular 90s Britpop band but is now a filthy casual (like me). We have a drummer. His demos sound kind of 60s-garage-punk-fuzz with a bit of velvets but he seems pretty diverse tbh.

Seriously guys? No one gives a shit that I met Michael J Fox??

Sorry! I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if it was a cardboard cut out at first!!!! But yes, that is awesome. Is he as nice in the flesh as he seems on TV? P.S. How's the septum? I'm hoping to get a ring in in a couple of weeks once my nostril one is pierced.

Oh. We might be having a house party at some point and you can stay over if you want. x

I dunno man, it would be pretty cool if you just happened to meet him at your local pub.

But paying for a photo op feels kind of sad.

For everyone involved.

Did somebody literally take the jam out of your doughnut recently?

Lately you're about as shitty, antagonistic and negative as I've ever seen anybody. I don't know what's up mate, but maybe you could do with a bit of a reflect on how you've been interacting with people - if there's something wrong, I'm here to talk to but PLEASE can you stop this runaway train of dickbaggery.

I think of you as a friend (even if I've bitched out at you a fair bit recently) and I don't like seeing you suddenly being the complete opposite of what I've come to know as your usual friendly self.

Mikeside being the fun police in the unconventional sense: YOU ARE NOT HAVING ENOUGH.

Ninj, you need to sit down and think long and hard about sunshine, lolipops and rainbows and puppy dogs.

Mike, I/we were specifically asked why we weren't more excited.

In my opinion, that's why.

It's great that Musha and Micheal got something out of it, more power to them.

That's all there is to it really.

bitch I'm taking calls.
I saw the pic of Michael J Fox and just got depressed by how old he looked. Parkinson's has really beaten him up pretty bad.

I originally decided not to post that so I didn't dampen the mood but since you wanted feedback there you go.

Thanks for the depression.

Heya Brit gaf, I barged in on you guys last year with some success, but the Gaf team of Gishwhes this year needs some folks from across the pond to complete us. Anyone up for a crazy, wild week for charity?

I'm "some" success!?

How dare thee, I literally climbed a mountain for you

okay apart from that I was pretty useless, but it was super fun!

Oh yeah, that trans girl that was basically bullied out of the thread by a few peeps in here?

Yeah, that was pretty gross.

Urgh, so hungover today. Out until 4am, three hours sleep, I think I'm still pissed to be fair. One of the lads just said he can smell beer on me, best not stand too close to the gaffers this morning!

Yeah, I wouldn't have said anything had she not asked, trying not to be so antagonistic. It's not something I'd do personally but whatever floats your boat innit.

I'm glad she got some enjoyment out of it, it is a pretty cool picture to have.

thank you totes mc sploates! good luck on life and all its silliness!

i so want to bloodborne. you could say i was born to bloodborne. i can totally see why people would give up on dragon age but i kind of like the political stuff.

i do play bass! i do not sing backing vocals! my politicals lean pretty left! all of that seems lovely! not sure i could ever commit to a band now, considering i can't even write my own music any more but i give this a resounding maybe!

That's actually pretty funny, why would I post a photo of me with a cardboard cutout? Although now I might just start doing that.

Septum is great, it was pretty much healed after 4 weeks but I left it till 5 before I took the retainer out and 6 till I actually changed it. Took a few purchases before I got the right ring size and ball size too, have gone with 10mm ring and 4mm balls.

Oooooh I hope it's in August, that's my most free time month. If I'm free I'm there, and cheers for the offer to stay, I will deff take you up on that!

I thought it was photoshopped. Sorry.

Again, funny, why would I do that?

Ex Machina. Two thumbs up from me.

What was he like? Must've been nerve-wracking, I'd be shaking in my boots.

I concur on Ex Machina, it is excellent.

We didn't get a lot of time with him, he seemed pretty tired but was holding it together and soldiering on for the fans. I was super excited but I actually managed to stay pretty calm for once.

I dunno man, it would be pretty cool if you just happened to meet him at your local pub.

But paying for a photo op feels kind of sad.

For everyone involved.

I wasn't gonna bother responding to this but I changed my mind.

The thing is, I am never ever going to bump in to Michael J Fox in a pub. He is a childhood hero of mine, the first poster I ever had on my bedroom wall, the first person I ever had a crush on, and all I ever wanted to do was meet him. I even wrote in to Jim'll Fix It, as I'm sure a lot of people my age did, asking if I could meet him. It was the only thing I wanted at that point (kinda glad now Jim never responded obvs).

This was the only opportunity I will probably ever have to meet someone who has been a massive inspiration in my life, and paying money to spend a few seconds with him and get a photo with him was most definitely worth it for me. And all the money he made from the weekend he is donating to his charity, so it's worth it for him too. So yeah, that's why. You may think that's sad, but to be honest I don't give a fuck about your opinion on anything, yes I asked a silly question asking why people didn't care, but I clearly wasn't looking for negative responses.

There's an old saying I think you should pay heed to with your recent barrage of negativity. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

It's pretty cool that you met Micheal J Fox!

Thanks!

Well, he is old, he's in his 50's now. I actually think he looks really good for his age. And he's dealing with his Parkinsons remarkably well to be able to do an event like this. So don't be depressed!

I do, that's awesome! Was that at the recent BTTF anniversary event?

Well it was London Film and Comic Con, so not just BttF related, but they did have a lot of the cast there.

You did climb a mountain and that was amazing. I bow before you. WE HAVE A SINGLE DAY LEFT. You going to climb a mountain for me this year? :p

You have like, 10 hours to decide, they extended registration for a day. DOO EETT.

I'm struggling with demons currently but possibly next year!

Michael J Fox was your first crush? You're not so bad, Musharraf. And yeah he has done a lot for Parkinson's research since getting it so I'm glad he's still doing alright, most people at his stage don't go out anymore.

I don't know why my phone autocorrected Musha to 1940 Pakistani General Musharraf but I'm keeping it.

Well, in a wonderful show of prescience my brain packed in again yesterday. I don't know if this is what they call rapid cycling or not but its all bleak again around here, to the point that I was considering going to a and e and checking myself in for a brief holiday. :-(

I'm going to see the doctor now and hopefully can find some help or support. I was ok for a good few months but since seeing my dad I've been euphoric love for the world and sound one day and you deserve to die you worthless piece of shit the next.

Mental illness is real, folks. Who knew? I'm going to try and be more open about it all with the doctor (was scared to be in case they cut off my HRT, probably irrational). Anyway be nice to the crazies in your life because just wishing the a good morning can in their mind mean that you can wish them only suffering.

you're awfully neat, totes mc sploates, so sending you a lot of love.

Thank you Mr Skeletonium.

I was actually honest with a doctor for the first time in years today only to find out she was an "advanced nurse" so all she could do (despite being lovely) was refer me to a doctor. :S

I might sit down and play through Journey with some headphones. Game therapy?! I have no idea.

Baby steps, Sploaticus. You shared with the nurse, so you can share with the Doc, right? :)

Journey sounds like a wonderful idea. Come September 1st, I might even be able to actually play it!

sploatee, I know we're not exactly besties at the moment and that I've been a bit of a Debbie Downer myself recently but I hope you get the help you need. For what it's worth I think you're good peeps and deserve peace and happiness in your life.

Feel better mane.

Update on my life. Not fired. Got a formal meeting next week, in which HR will play good cop, my line manager bad cop. I'm onto them.

Seriously guys? No one gives a shit that I met Michael J Fox??

Sorry to hear about everything going on sploat. I hope when you meet this doctor you've been referred to you feel like you can open up with them!

Journey sounds like a decent shout. Something about travelling upwards which is really calming.

And back in the room.

Thanks to everyone who gave Notts suggestions - did a bunch of them, well worth it. Me and the missus had a great time and she has bugged me to pass thanks back on for the stuff you guys mentioned. National Videogame Arcade was great fun and can hugely recommend a visit. On food, some standout places were Annie's Burger Shack (They had a Sunday Roast as a burger, I had to), Red's BBQ and George's. Last one is a fish and chip place, but their sharing dessert was incredible. Large lot of ice cream with cream and flakes, doughnuts, dips and candyfloss. That was something.

What do you mean, "Jon do you think holidays are just an excuse to eat loads of different foodstuffs"? Because yes, yes I do.

Thanks for nice wishes, folks. Feeling up again but hopefully not manic up!

Just to get back to normal

BLOODBORNE omg!

It took the first two bosses and one particular mini event
telling a little cloistered girl that her mother had died and receiving nothing but her endless wails
to really win me over but I am just loving being a Victorian beast hunter now. I beat up horrible things with a cane. A cane! I feel like I'm telling them off for bad manners.

So far it feels way more action game than Dark Souls but it's got that amazing world and atmosphere - the environmental storytelling is astonishing and it has that wonderful Miyazaki thing of feeling like someone just drew these far-out dark fantasy paintings and then the coders had to make it appear 'just so' on screen.

I've got a hunch as to where the story is going and I like it :)

It feels a little bit easier than Dark Souls and Demon's Souls but that could just be because I've learned just how paranoid you need to be in a Souls-style game.

Ahhh, properly good games for adults. Sigh.

It's going to be hard going back to Dark Souls 2 after this, but I've got a feeling I'm only scratching the surface.

Starting my third destiny character

Gonna run you guys through my characters

My main is the Titan, she's a firm-handed Exo-female and a level 33, the only one of my lot to complete a raid. She dreams that one day she'll defeat crota in battle.

My 2iC is another Exo-female, hunter lvl 28, still some soul searching to with subclasses, I'm not going to lie I think hunter is the shittest class going.

My new Warlock is my first dude to join the party, a humble level 5, he's got a long way to go but I think he will do well in the Destiny Universe

Enjoying it?

My main is a 34 warlock who is just right. All intellect and discipline and can switch exotics to do both subclasses nicely.

I have a 34 Titan too but I just don't like Titans that much and an 8 hunter but don't really like hunter so much either! Warlocks are my favourite.

Which raid did you do?

Shame you're on ps360.

Double good news this morning

the amp I ordered was delayed so they've bumped me up to the next model at no extra cost and are shipping it out today express :-O

my tattoo artist can finally finish off my arm and shoulder on Saturday morning and isn't charging me :-O :-O

and in the usual

Bloodborne is awesomeness

I'm trying out Tidal with my proper headphones that I use when I'm listening to records / trying to play along with records. It does sound fuller and better. Whether it's worth the money I don't know. So far I think Apple Music has the best recommendation system (it's really something) but the sound quality is poopy, Spotify has the quickest interface and Tidal seems to have the best quality but the interface is a bit "beta". It's also £26 a month, which is a bloody lot. Although apparently artists actually get paid for the streaming.

£26 a month is a lot for a streaming service and I may be uncultured swine but I find it really hard to tell the difference in FLAC files.

Apple music really is totally legit and rad.

Does the new amp go to 11?

How does Tidal work with paying artists, then? My big issue with Spotify (and the primary reason I don't pay for Premium) is that I could give them £10 and listen to nothing but Metronomy for a month, and yet half my money will end up going to Kanye West.

It's why I still buy CDs. At least that way all the money you spend goes to people who were at least vaguely involved in releasing or distributing that specific piece of music.
