Ironic and above all hypocrite that people who condemned ISIS' practises now suddenly don't mind them doing it. Hope he somehow gets to the UK and gets arrested, he might have some valuable intel (assuming source checks out).

Rest of the article:

Additionally, ISIS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi recently issued a call to ban the terrorist group from releasing any more execution videos due to fears that it is hurting the group's image. Although the group can still release propaganda videos, videos must not include scenes where executions occur.

The Express source added that Emwazi is also fearful that other ISIS militants who are jealous of his fame are plotting to kill him.

As Emwazi is likely to be jailed and prosecuted for brutally mutilating numerous innocent people should he flee to Britain or anywhere outside the caliphate, the report states that the University of Westminster graduate has likely associated with another Syrian militant group in order to help him keep a low profile.

A former acquaintance of Emwazi, who knew him from school, said it's "laughable" for Emwazi to consider himself Muslim and for him to justify his murderous actions in the the Islamic faith.

"He smoked drugs, drank and was violent toward other boys," the acquaintance told the Express. "The fact he portrays himself as a strict Muslim is laughable and shameful. I never saw him pray or wear Islamic dress. He would not even mention religion at all."

"Being a Muslim myself I was very aware of it at the time," the source continued. "We had a gang and he was very much a part of it — which shows he is a total hypocrite."

The difference being, one is the murder of innocent civilians, the other is executing a murderer, as far as I'm concerned. Entirely different.

I read that they would continue to release execution videos, but that they would have to be those "officially produced" propaganda videos, instead of the "homevideos"/combat videos taken by individual terrorists showing executions etc.

"Hey, you guys...do you ever think these execution videos might be.....I don't know....making us look like the bad guys?"

Why would anyone want him tried in the UK? Jail is way too good for him. Let him feel the blade he loves to use on others.

Because that's not justice? Better to bring him home and force him to face the families of the people he killed and let him rot in a jail cell somewhere for the rest of his life.

Hasn't that been denied already? We just don't see him anymore because they don't have anyone for him to behead.

So he's basically outlived his usefulness?

We should try to get him out but not if it means any of our forces are at serious risk.

I agree with this. If this is true and it's easy to get him out with no risk to our forces, then we should try and get him back here. If there's a risk, he should try to get somewhere reasonably safe where we can take him into custody.

If they want to kill him, why would they care enough to try and get him back?
It's not just ISIS sympathisers. You've got other extremists without any affiliation with ISIS that may see him as some aspiring figure

He could be a very useful tool in convincing people just how fucked up IS and how they shouldn't be supported in any way, shape or form and people/entire families shouldn't be heading out there to join them.
I've seen enough of him sawing people's heads off and making him an example to dissuade people from joining a notorious organisation is pretty weird. He went from fervently pledging allegiance to ISIS; to convince people against join ISIS. It's a complete turnaround and pretty hilarious to see

"hey guise I used to saw people heads off with a tiny knife. I now realise it was wrong lol. Please don't support ISIS guise"

As unpopular as it might be, we should try to get him out of there and try him in a British court for his disgusting crimes.
Oh no, he won't go to the court. He will get ESA, PIP benefit and full housing benefit rent straight away because easy to be fake depression. No benefit cap because of PIP (old DLA) so he will get £26,000 a year from govenment if he's alone.

You mixed up "condone" and "condemn".

I'd take that sort of progress. I'm not looking forward to boots on the ground confrontation.

My guess is that since his identity has been revealed, ISIS got enough info on him to realize he wasn't really a devout Muslim as his buddy said, so they probably now want to kill him for that. Guy probably lied to them on more than one occasions, and they seem to apply their laws pretty strictly, at least if it becomes widespread knowledge enough. Since it's a bunch of fanatics, it probably doesn't take long to end up seen as a heretic by others who are even more fanatic. Everyone is probably trying to appear holier-than-thou over there.

Whilst it would be nice from a propaganda viewpoint if we could catch him and fetch him back for a trial I think I would rather he didn't come back to the UK.

He would probably just become a poster boy for the Muslim extremists we already have more than enough of over here, while he sat comfortably in jail being courted by a gang of human rights lawyers and activists.

Context shouldn't matter unless you're in favour of the death penalty. And even then, (assuming he was at least a little bit higher ranked) he's much more valuable alive to the west alive than decapitated.

You mixed up "condone" and "condemn".

I'm sorry, yes I meant condemn.

Of course context matters.

We have no idea whether he is of any strategic value at all. There is a small propaganda victory that could be had by his capture and trial but that could easily backfire.
What if they brought him back but could not provide concrete evidence (of the standard require to gain a murder conviction) that he had actually held the knife, for example?
What if the human rights lawyers that will flock to this case somehow get him off on a technicality?
You could conceivably end up with a situation where he has to be given a new identity or even police protection.
The nature of his crimes and the link to widespread religious extremism make this a high stakes game.

So he's basically outlived his usefulness?

Ideally, that sounds great.
But that's only because your assuming he would definitely be convicted.

It seems unlikely given extreme nature of his ideology and the barbaric nature of his acts that he would lack sufficient empathy or remorse for facing the families of his victims to really impact on him. It may or may not give the family members some sense of relief to see him tried and convicted.

Generally I'm not keen on the death penalty.
If it was one of my family members he had hacked the head off for a propaganda video I think I would want him dead rather than in jail.
Not butchered necessarily, but definitely dead.

Four of the five who went to Syria from Portsmouth are dead, maybe John getting it in the neck might start putting people off going there and destroying what's left.

By rot in jail you mean allow him to convert others while claiming 3 meals and a bed the rest of his life?

Who cares, he's a murderer. I'd rather they just kill each other than innocent civilians.

Sorry guys - if the source is the Express you can almost certainly file this story under lying tabloid drivel.

Not that I think Old Johno doesn't deserve all the shit that's coming to him in this life and the next - but the Express is more than happy to cook up a story like this to send it's middle englander Muslim hating readers into orgasmic delight.
