K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT6| Thank You for Love

Bro can't handle it at all. I predicted this.

That whole episode was great, everything about him just went blank in front of her.

Oh and I randomly watched Big Bang's Loser for the second time... are they insinuating that TOP murdered that chick or am I crazy?!

For some ungodly shameful reason, as a massive fan of catchy k-pop and the eighties, I had never listened to Dal Shabet's BBB. Well fuck me. Damn son.

How could you sleep on the best track released last year? (I must say I don't remember when you got into k-pop/this thread)

i just listened to both. my list still stands :)

But where is Magic Girl? The true GOAT orange caramel track. And as ryan pointed out, Abing Abing is also very good.

Smh, I must do a best of 2014 list, you are missing out.

First place correct. And agreed Bangkok City should be out.

Any GFriend fans up in here? Really digging their new MV:

About MV I'm not sure but I like the song and watching performances is better.
Maybe because they are too young but I don't find them attractive, just cute.
maknae Umji is the cutest

Woah, didn't expect 12 tracks from WG's reboot. Hope there is some variety in there.

You know I just realized I've never really paid any attention to AOA... can anyone possibly create a primer for them? Sorta like that A-Pinkeu one a couple of pages back.

This week...

I wasn't sold until the 3rd picture tbh. I think I need a primer on her, as well as AOA'S Seolhyun, especially Seolhyun coz I kinda confuse her with EXID's Jungwha lol.

AOA fans need to step up their game

Best of 2014 for F0rneus (or anyone else missing out)

Still holds up quite decently, maybe the ordering would be slightly different, with IU song rocketing to the top 3.

That's a great list, and I get to listen to some stuff I missed...but...Disappointment of the year: Girl's Day? In a year of Something and Darling? COME FIGHT ME BRO!

Something is a rerehash of classic Brave Bros Alone production. Meh.
Darling is straight up trash.

Both of these things accentuated after the trifecta that was their previous releases: Don't forget me, expectation and female president.

I was (and still am) really disappointed, they used to make fun music ;_;

F0rneus

Tears in the rain
Now Expectation and Female President I'll give you. Two of the best k-pop songs ever. EVER. But Something is right up there for me. It's way better than the Don't Forget Me IMO. Darling....well I like it, but I won't fight for it haha.

Ring My Bell is crappy though. The worse of them all.

A best of 2014 list that doesn't include AOA - Like A Cat? I get that you're not the biggest Brave Bros. fan, but come on, this song is so good.

Brave Bros can do good things (Love Options, Heart Attack,...), Like a Cat isn't one of them (I would said is the only AOA single I hate next to Moya). I could actually picture myself putting Short Hair in a best of 2014 list, although the fact that it was their 3rd attempt at that brave bros sound diminished its impact.

We must have very different tastes anyway, because appart from the Wassup song, none of the other does anything for me and I would rather put Gotta Be You or Crush as 2NE1 songs *shrug*.

He can't tell the difference between Seolhyun and Junghwa, no primer can ever help with that.

First of all, Miniskirt > Short Hair > Like A Cat in terms of AOA's 2014 output, just so everyone is aware, although the album tracks on Like A Cat were amazing. Secondly, you hate Moya?! llehuty, what the hell. Moya is gold. The rest of your 2014 list is spot on though.

Moya was terrible. The tune itself may well have been fine but it hardly made any use of the group's instruments at all. I seem to remember shots in the MV where you could see all the members merrily playing along and there wasn't a guitar to be heard. A massive waste of their whole band concept IMO.

Not really, I'm on board with most of your list, including the less popular stuff like Neon Bunny, R.Tee feat. Hani, Lady Cube, Minx, Laboum, Femm, etc. All those are still in my normal rotation even today ^^

^^^ Cheers kuno, you should post more in that case :p

Moya actually feels like something Sera would randomly release in her youtube channel.

Anyway, I was checking the first AOA MVs and I'm pretty sure that in most of them all the members mimick singing one of Choa's parts, taking center position in the choreo and everything, so messy.

So Wondergirls are back... and they are playing instruments? This has potential to be a complete disaster.

Unlike say, AOA, who entirely built themselves on the gimmick, and aren't very good at it, Wondergirls seem to be trained well in it. At least that's what the teasers give glimpses of.

hilariously ironic that JYP dumped so much money into the concept and they are essentially blacklisted from participating because the main music shows hate anything that isn't manufactured idol pop.

Completely out of your ass. This thing you are telling has, literally, never happened. Music shows are probably dying to get Wonder Girls in their lineups.
Why is people obsessed with Wonder Girls flopping just because they are trying something different?

This isn't about WG flopping. Music shows basically have banned groups from performing with full instruments. I know CN.BLUE have been hit with it a few times.

Again, you are just making stuff up.

Music shows have barely proper equipment to deal with vocal performances, so the real issue is that they don't have resources to deal with live instrumentation. Groups are free to perform in music shows with a backing track if they want (AOA band performances, CNBlue, FT Island among other have been in music shows several times). I've never seen or heard music shows blacklisting groups with instruments, but I would assume that some groups directly decide not to use it as a main promotion tool since it doesn't allow to showcase the full thing properly (can't really blame them).

They perform with their instruments unplugged. It's because the performances are generally live and they don't have time to fiddle around with the set up to accommodate for the instruments. They just don't have the infrastructure in place to support it. It's definitely not them getting blacklisted or banned from performing since they still perform. Even a fair number of indie bands have performed on music shows (Like Sweet Revenge recently) so, yes, that comment about being black listed was pulled out of thin air.

lol 'banned'. It's a purely practical issue. Their show set-ups are not made for live instruments, changing back and forth would take too much effort since 99% of artists there only sing.

Can we talk about how great it is that JYP continues to release full lengths that aren't just a compilation of previous mini album tracks?

This has me so much more hyped because it's a full length.

And also that, besides the title track by JYP, the members participated in composing and writing every other track on the album.

When they released Glass Bead, I started watching tons of SinB fancams to get my Jessica fix and got hooked on the song.
They're new song is super catchy too.

So many people are disregarding them because their concepts are too simple and "classic". But compared to all the crazy (sometimes awesome) changes going around the KPOP scene, the classic, cute style feels so right.

Cause ever since they flopped in America, Sunye marrying, no Sohee and who their target audience is with this band gimmick... it's just one big flop waiting to happen, imo.

Going through and translating the members' comments on each song on that track list.

1. Baby Don't Play

This is a song that'll have you hooked right from the intro and has really magnificent bass line. It's a song that expresses the sound from the latter half of the 80s and talks about a "some" relationship between men and women by using the English word 'play'. - By Yubin.

2. Candle

This is a really exciting 80s New Wave dance track, it flip flops between being sexy and lively while expressing a strange relationship between men and women by likening it to a candle. I feel like Paloalto's rap in the second half of the song really brings the track's vibe up another level. - By Yubin.

3. I Feel You (Title)

This song is about a girl who is in love thinking about her man and wondering about what his feelings are like even when he's alone. It's a song story that'll make your heart beat and send shivers down your spine (Trans note: In a good way, 설레다 and 짜릿하다 are a bit difficult to find expressions for in English but they mean a fast beating heart and like an electric shock down your back in a good way). - By Hyelim.

4. Rewind

This is a song that tells a story about having loved someone in the past, recalling your memories together and rewinding in order to bring those memories back to life. - By Hyelim.

5. Loved

This is a song that shows off the four steps of composition (Trans note: Introduction, development of theme, conversion and summing up - this is a term that was originally used to refer to Korean poetry but now is used to describe an effective way of writing any kind of prose). The high point of the song is in the latter half when the guitar melody harmonizes with Yeeun's voice. - By Sunmi.

6. John Doe

This is a song that reveals the way people show off their rude self-confidence towards people they don't know. Hey Anonymous. - By Sunmi.

7. One Night

This is a story about spending an exciting, hot and dizzy night together - a love like fireworks (Trans: Another sentence that sound really awkward when translated into English). - By Hyelim.

8. Back

The contrast between Hyelim and Yubin's tone during their raps here really leaves an impression. Equally so is the bonus of a chrous that'll captivate your ears. - By Sunmi.

9. OPPA

This is a dance song for all those people in their 20s who want to enjoy their youth! Hyelim's outstanding lyrics and Sunmi's unique voice that you can't hear in other songs make it even more interesting. The sound of the Moktak that appears in the break is also a point that adds to this exciting song (Trans note: Moktak is a wooden instrument usually used for reciting sutras in Buddhism). - By Yeeun.

10. When Love Tries to Get Away

This is a summer ballad where you can really hear the clear and cool sound. The melody line that moves along with the piano will really grab your attention. It's a song that particularly shows off the low tone of Yubin and Sunmi's voices well. - By Yeeun.

11. GONE

This is a story that'll make you imagine a lot of things. The strange chord progression and acapella portion in the latter part of the song are beautiful. It's a song with the charm of being a sort of sad sexy. - By Yeeun.

12. This Moment

This is a retro pop song which tells the story of the last 8 and a half years sincerely and honestly to our fans, I guess you could say it's the grand finale of the album. During the final chorus all of the members sing together, there are rumours that all of us were wiping away tears during the recording. - By Yubin.

Quick and dirty translation, bound to be inaccuracies (I typed this out as the apartment above me is having a kitchen installed - sounds like there's a jackhammer right above my head).

I saw the teasers. TBH, it's no surprise that bass and piano seemed to be the best of the 4 because it takes the least amount of finesse to play those. The real tell of a professional musician is not how well they play lead/solo parts, but how well they can play rhythm. Especially with guitar. I used to play in a band circle in Japan. These kids would show up and shred guitar solos like no other... then when it came time to play the chords they sounds like garbage. But, the Wonder Girls can do talent show tricks to make it sound technically impressive, and I know why they did that. Basically, to address fears that they don't know what they are doing. Me? Definitely got me intrigued. If they got their rhythm play down, it could work. The only thing to be concerned about is hitting the drums with the same force with the left hand as the right hand. As a drummer, uneven snare fills drive me nuts. lol

I used to like WG back when they were a regular pop group, so we'll see how this goes. Could be a successful move. Although, this might just be for one song/concept and the rest of the time it's the old dance pop stuff.
