N++ |OT| Time is money

Game is super awesome and I love the soundtrack. I finally got to sit down and play a tiny bit today after a week full of finals and other stressful shit.

Does anyone else have trouble seeing N and making out details though? I played it in the beta and still feel like everything is too small unfortunately. I really have to scooch up to my TV to see it clearly.

Wish there was a setting where I could adjust the display options... :/

So how does everyone like this so far? Big improvement over N+?

I've only been able to play a little bit of it so far, but the soundtrack is definitely awesome. And I like the new obstacles they've introduced. I've only played the intro levels which are fairly easy, especially if you're an N veteran. But considering there are a metric shit-ton of regular levels, and even more legacy levels, I'm looking forward to the inevitable controller-throwing challenge.

why metanet why? :(

I can't do it man... I've tried for the past 20 minutes. Those top two golden rows are just evil.

As someone who loved the hell out of N+, I would say that, yes, N++ is a big improvement.

At a base level, there's so much more content in the game that it's crazy. Just getting through all the developer created levels will take anyone a long, long time. Beyond that though there are things like the level sharing, which opens pretty much infinite levels, the color schemes which are surprisingly cool and unique, the quick, easy to use menus that keep you playing, and the amazing soundtrack which sets the perfect vibe.

Overall the game is just really, really polished. It really does feel like the ultimate realization of what N and N+ were striving for.

You need to use the momentum from the ramps to jump higher. Climb the left wall and then jump toward the right side of the left ramp. You need to land on the slide. Hold right on the d-pad and you will notice a light speed boost. Continue holding right as go down and as you climb the left side of the right ramp. You can hit jump at any point during that climb, if you did it correctly it should launch you high into the air.

Watch high-score replays if you need visual help.

It's a momentum thing, also one of the later intro levels teaches you how to jump onto and then off a ramp to gain more height, pay attention to what the text at the bottom right of the screen says.

It's incredible. I've put around 14 hours in already and still don't feel like I've scratched the surface. The colour and music customisations are awesome. It's frustrating but still fun as hell. One of my favourite PS4 games, for sure.

How do you unlock new color schemes?
A new scheme unlocks after every 5 n++ episodes completed. You can't get 'em from the intro episodes.

I totally forgot about the high-score replays, it's been a while since I played N+!

Playing through any of the episodes except the tutorial episodes. Every 5 episodes you'll unlock a new color scheme. And they're awesome.

Thanks, and yeah I agree they are awesome.

Yeah I know about the ramp jump of course, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get half the ones I did haha. :)

Ah that explains it, I've just been knocking out all the intro ones getting all gold so far.

I think I played N or N+ sometime back or just saw a bit about it, can't remember. From 1 to Destiny bosses, how frustrating is it? Plus how satisfying is it to beat a level?

I was looking to either buy N++ or Helldivers.

I watched the Giant Bomb quick look on it, but it seemed that the character is too floaty to be controllable even though one of the guys swears that it is a feel good floaty. What is Gaf's opinions?

The character control is second to none (well...super meat boy). It's not floaty in the sense that once you are in the air you feel like you have restricted movement, it's floaty in the sense that it allows you to stay in the air a while for a ton of air control and corrections to make precise jumps.

In terms of frustration, it's super challenging - but I wouldn't say its unfair.

If you are a fan of platformers I would find it incredibly unusual if you didn't love this game.

Depends on the level and your skill level. I was stuck on a level for like an hour and a half earlier and it was Skolas level infuriating, but it was satisfying to finally conquer it. I'd say it ranges between 7-10 in terms of frustration, and I'm still doing the 'early' content so it's only going to get more frustrating.

I have the exact same problem. I have to sit super close to my 40" TV just to get a good view.

I wish it would auto zoom like N+ did, some of these levels are so far zoomed out, like the one posted above, it doesn't make much sense.

On one hand I like seeing the entire level on one screen unlike N+ (which sometimes led to inadvertent offscreen missile kills)

But on the other hand, it kinda sucks that I have difficulty seeing. There definitely should be at least a few optional settings to tweak. Couch gamers RIP :(

So far these have been the most infuriating 18€/16$ (and this conversion is pretty infuriating itself) I ever spent. But the game is such a blast!! Well worth it!

The "It's full of stars" level took me 333 attempts, but I managed to gold it!

I'm up to about 12% completion. Game is great, but I can tell I'm going to be very frustrated with later episodes when you have to complete all 5 stages in one stretch, if only due to the amount of time it sometimes takes to conquer a stage.

I just bought it. Here we go... *gulp*

Okay so this is driving me nuts. Still early on in the intro, Level C-00.
I even looked up a YouTube video, I do the wall jump right in the beginning, yet when I grab the gold pieces I still get locked in a wall as shown in the video. What am I doing wrong?
Someone please help me get my sanity back!!!

A bit further on the N++ levels now and jesus!

Just booted the game up to play more, save file is corrupted. Press triangle to delete. Wonderful. I was halfway through episode A and had a lot of co-op race done. Even had two partially created race maps I was working on. Deflated, now.

Just out of curiosity, which control scheme (D-pad or analog stick) do you guys use?

I personally like the analog stick more.

Edit: Actually, the D-pad seems to work better in my opinion, also I'm afraid I'll wear down the analog stick grips.

Try to jump vertically at the left or right edge of the gold piece, barely touching it.
Don't rush and try to position yourself beforehad. That's the best way to get the one below.
When you get a better feel of the distance needed to grab it without triggering the cage, go for the one above.

I personally do not even think it is a question. D-pad all the way. Just so much more precise.
With that said, I am curious to see if others champion the analog sticks.

Thank you for this. I will try it tomorrow when I fire it back up.

Finished the C levels in the N++ category.

Up to D-14 now. This is the first level where I'm truly stuck. More specifically, S-D-14-04 "fear of repeating yourself". This shit is frustrating, lol.

Oh fuck me. Oh fuck me.

I just got the save file corrupt error again. This time it's a bigger deal as I've got a whole lot of progress on this save. I haven't deleted my save yet. I'm not willing to.

Here are the pertinent facts about what happened.

I was playing the file with my brother in party chat. This could be important. The previous time my save file was corrupted my brother was in party chat as well.

As we were playing through his player created level we decided to play Rocket League for a spell. I went directly into the playstation menu and selected Rocket League. The message that N++ would be closed popped up, I said Ok. We played Rocket League for a while and decided to go back into N++

Upon going back into N++ I received the message that my save file was corrupted.

It seems to me that being in party chat while you close the N++ application could have something to do with the save file corruption error.

I'm going to copy my save file onto a USB drive, I'm just not willing to lose this one... even as I type that, I have a sinking feeling in my heart, I'm a very realistic person...

Edit: Worth noting, both times my brother has been the host of party chat.

Solo level A-00:

S-A-00-00 - collect no gold
S-A-00-01 - collect no gold, activate no mines
S-A-00-02 - collect no gold, activate all mines
S-A-00-03 - collect all gold, activate all mines
S-A-00-04 - collect no gold

But yeah, nothing happens yet.

Tried Remote Play on the Vita and while there is a small input delay it's very playable and looks great.

The thought of having this on the Vita natively is making me moist

It's quite infuriating that the X button is used for jumping and going to the next level. Especially in the expert levels there seems to be gold quite often behind the exit doors. I often end up mistakenly touching the exit and pressing X to go to the next level when I'm coming closer to the exit while trying to mash X to jump over the exit to get to the gold behind the exit. I would like to restart the level because I didn't get all the gold but I can't go back to an earlier level in an episode so that ruins my time for the whole episode. There should be an option to change the "Press X to Continue" to some other button.

Solo level A-00:

S-A-00-00 - collect no gold
S-A-00-01 - collect no gold, activate no mines
S-A-00-02 - collect no gold, activate all mines
S-A-00-03 - collect all gold, activate all mines
S-A-00-04 - collect no gold

But yeah, nothing happens yet.

Don't worry about these things yet. The secrets become obvious at a later point like Mare said earlier: "About the secrets, I would recommend not worrying about them too much and just keep playing the game, maybe later things won't be so hidden ;)"

I was just curious, really, and it's quite fun to work out what these criteria are even if it's not tracking them anywhere yet!

I went to play Far Cry 4 in the same manner, to return to a corrupt save. The only thing is, i didnt have party chat on. I have PS+, but it rarely updaes and I had just completed a lot of levels and made a race level, without closing the game. I'm worried mine didn't save.

If SharePlay is P2P like claimed above (I don't know if it is or not tbh, I never looked into it), then Sony's infrastructure won't matter after the connection to the other player has been made.

Shareplay is peer to peer, has literally no reason to pass through Sony other than an authentication step

I believe you, but my experience was insanely laggy and low resolution, while both of us were sitting pretty with 40Mbps connections, and were in the same city. Maybe that's still not good enough, I don't know, but we passed the test.

Plays great on Vita, though I seriously hope the devs consider a proper remoteplay control scheme. The default is fine for playing levels, but changing colors/music is way too hard.

There's zero chance I'll get all these, but I'm curious now.

BTW, props to the devs for not making these a trophy. Being a required part of 100% achievements (and unlocks) is a big part of why The Lost in Binding of Isaac is terribly unfun rather than a (still poorly designed) extra for only the hardest of core.

Thank you!

We wanted to make sure there was lots of fun optional stuff for experts without making the experience miserable for mere mortals. :)

Behind some of the gold are trap switches. The trap switches are slightly smaller than gold, so you can "graze" the gold to collect it without touching the switches.. if you're careful. ;)

I realize that there is a trophy for getting all the gold, which was maybe a mistake.

Honestly, you will enjoy the game a lot more if you don't obsess with gold and just try to make it to the exit.. we regret making the all-gold badges visible from the start since people are getting side-tracked. Sorry! Our mistake.

The game is a lot more fun if you play through it just trying to beat the levels, and *then* -- once you've beaten all the levels you can and developed as much skill as possible -- return to clean up all that gold. Then it will be very fun and not a grueling grind.

The gold was intended as a sort of "second level" for experts, not as something that everyone should try for; we're going to see if we can communicate this a bit more clearly in the future.

In the meantime, don't worry about it :)

Oh fuck me. Oh fuck me.

I just got the save file corrupt error again.

I'm *really* sorry about this. Also, I have bad news: the file is already corrupt (this is something that the PS4 detects and reports to us, we have no control over it and can't recover it regardless) so I'm afraid you've lost it all again. I'm so, so sorry.

We had a lot of problems engineering the save system, because most games only need to save once in a while and it's not time-critical; in N++ you can beat an individual level in 1-2 seconds, which means we need to be updating the save file every 1-2 seconds.. which is very hard because behind the scenes, when we ask the PS4 "hey can we save now?", it takes it 1-2 seconds to even get a reply!

This meant that we're using the save files a bit differently than most titles, and somehow a bug was introduced as a result.

We're working right now to figure out exactly what's going on. I don't know if chat has something to do with it, but we'll follow up with the other people who have reported this (IIRC it's about 5 thus far) and see if that's what's causing it.

In the meantime, please do use cloud or USB to backup.. I'm really sorry. We feel completely miserable about this bug because we know the sort of game N++ is: the sort where your progress is hard-earned and losing it is the worst.

Good advice. That's how I'm playing actually. At first, I try to beat level, and then I go back to pick up all gold (if possible).

And thanks guys for the game. It's very addictive and stylish.

For my occurrence, I wasn't on chat. I just went to open Far Cry 4 and closed the game when I received the prompt to do so. I don't know if I want to start again, right now, just to have the potential of losing my file again. I have cloud backups, but it doesn't always save properly for me (mainly due to the cloud system running out of space).
