The final (for now?) Ranked Mode in Splatoon is set to be released this Saturday in Europe, which is probably Friday Night in North America

It is Capture the Flag Essentially

Introducing…. Rainmaker! In Rainmaker, both teams compete to snag the, uhhh, Rainmaker. Once you’ve got it, the goal is to carry it into the other team’s base!
How’s it work, you ask? As soon as the battle begins, grab onto that Rainmaker! It’s guarded by a shield, though, so you’ll need to bust it out first. Once you snag it, head for the other team’s base. And be quick about it!
If you run out of time or get splatted, the Rainmaker will be dropped and its shield will also reactivate. The Rainmaker is crazy heavy, so you can’t Super Jump while carrying it. Hopefully your teammates will watch your back!
But don’t think the Rainmaker is just some shiny object - it can shoot ink like an Inkzooka. You can even hold to charge the Rainmaker up for an extra-powerful shot! The closer you get to the enemy base while holding the Rainmaker, the lower your goal distance will drop. If you retreat too far while holding the Rainmaker, it’ll explode sooner! If the battle ends without anyone carrying the Rainmaker to the goal, the team with the lowest goal distance will win.

Hmm. I would have thought we would have gotten at least one new stage before this mode was introduced since it is the last known one. Next week for a stage then.

Honestly Splatoon is a hard game to come up with modes for. Splat Zones is at its most basic a variation of Turf War. Rainmaker and Tower Control both involve controlling an object to bring it to the opposing team's side. Very different in execution but the core ideas have strong similarities.

If they do come up with something really original I wonder if they would just save it for Splatoon 2?

I think still some interest ideas.. depending on how much they wanna mess with the formula

Like would be interesting if one team painted and one team could wash off the surface or something.

Or maybe something similar to Splatzone where various points on the map that one team has to fill with their paint to claim before moving onto the next.

I hope they have fixed the post patch issues with EU players (myself included) disconnecting every match

I've not played it in a week as last time I played it I was kicked from about 14 of the 15 matches I played due to an "unstable" connection

This after 55 hours of not having any issues with it, in the OT someone said Nintendo are aware of it, but yeah I've yet to return to check if it's still an issue

We supposedly still have 6 more stages coming (Hammerhead Bridge, Flounder Heights, & I think 4 placeholders).

they've said free content would be coming through the fall so I'm assuming all of that is free

For some reason I thought they said this last big update was part of their final updates, and stuff going forward was going to be paid. Could be my imagination. I'd be happy to get more map variety. I hate DLC maps given the way the split the playerbase.

I don't think they're going to do paid DLC at all (unless it's cosmetic stuff). No need to fragment the user base.

nah, they said free content would continue through the fall. that was their exact wording when they detailed the big august update.

Nope, all free.

That's awesome! Thanks everybody.

I can't wait to try out this mode. I admit that I've felt my interest lagging a bit since the update (although the Slosher may well be my new favorite weapon), but I'm hoping this new mode will really boost my interest!

This. Rainmaker looks exciting, but it'd be nice to be able to enjoy the new content, as I too have been getting the unstable connection problem since the 2.00 update.

Last Thursday evening, I was playing Splatoon in the hours running up to the update to savour the game in its "original" form. So far so good, everything's working fine as usual.

Then the patch lands and I quickly get disconnected from every game after about 30 seconds due to an "unstable connection". I thought maybe things were too busy since the patch just went live, but I've been having the same problem every day since.

The best it's been was yesterday, when I managed to get a lot of ranked battles in, but turf war still doesn't work reliably. I only finished two games throughout the entire Splatfest.

The lack of online 2 player was kind of a big deal, but I've always thought it looks super fun. I might just be tempted to buy it anyways.

Same, the match goes fine and then it suddenly grinds to a halt.

It's annoying as it only seems to be a small minority of players being affected (At least based on twitter and Splatoon reddit searches), so I hope a patch comes sooner rather than later.

You are brave playing ranked while this problem exists. I don't want to let my team down nor do I want to go back to C+ rank so I avoid the mode. Which of course makes for a hard decision as Rainmaker is a ranked mode and I do want to play it.

If Nintendo have not fixed the problem I'd ask for anyone playing Rainmaker to expect 3v4 matches as a lot of players will be jumping in to try the mode out.

awww yea new mode, cant wait.

This clock thing for the modes makes no sense though, now its even more unlikey for me to get tower control. Fix your servers nintendo, because i know thats why you put three modes into one mode. i want options

All I want is for my ranking to not go down after disconnects.

I'm too scared to play Ranked at all because of this

just buy two Wii U's! all the cool kids are doing it!
It sucks during the Splatfests, but that aside this setup has been golden for me and my friends.

Also bought Mario Kart for 4-player online at 60fps, but we've been too busy splatting to try that yet.

No it is yours until you reach the destination, get splatted or if the timer goes to zero when it detonates.

Speaking of which I guess you can't just swim back to your spawn point with it to be a jerk?

That'd be doing a favor to the enemy team, since they'll have it closer to their destination point when the timer ends and you go splat.

Crumbs, now I'm reminded of how I dropped down from an A- to a B rank due to the "unstable connection" errors :(

I keep coming back and getting burned, I need to stop this habit.

Are we sure Nintendo knows about this issue? I've had a look around and it feels like there are just a handful of EU players complaining about this

I tried again last night, got kicked from all 3 matches I started after 30 seconds to one minute, then switched to MK8 and had no issues

MK8 I've never had issues with, and Splatoon was fine as well for the first 55 hours I played it, it's only since 2.00 it's been a mess

Before 2.00 I'd get kicked out of maybe 1 match every 20, whereas now it's every single match

It's a shame because the game is fantastic, but ultimately unplayable for me now, and it's been over a week and we're heard nothing from Nintendo

Edit: Just found this reply from Nintendo from someone on reddit

Thank you for your email to Nintendo.

I am sorry to read that you are continuing to experience an issue with your connection on Splatoon online.

We can confirm that due to the update that has occurred, some people are still having their connection affected. However this has been identified and escalated to our Head Office, and we are looking to ensure that this is resolved and that our servers are stabilised within the next few days.

We would recommend for you to continue trying over the weekend to see if you notice any improvements in the connection. We sincerely apologise for any upset or inconvenience that this issue has caused to you.

If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

That was posted 6 days ago, so it's not fixed, but at least they're aware of it
