Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State in northern Iraq have reported being attacked with chemical weapons, according to the German defence ministry.

“We have indications that there was an attack with chemical weapons,” a ministry spokesman said, saying many peshmerga fighters had reportedly been left suffering from respiratory irritation.

“Last Tuesday afternoon, peshmerga forces in the Makhmur area 30 miles (50km) west of the city of Irbil were attacked with Katyusha rockets filled with chlorine,”

There will always be some sort of disassociation with the reality of it being that I am sitting here, thousands of miles away from where this is occurring, living on an Island thinking man I can't believe somewhere, right now, these cunts are actually doing this.......the reality of this for many people has to be horrendous.

I simply cannot imagine living anywhere near the place. I have been to the Middle East and while you can argue yes this is occuring primarily in 2 places (Iraq and Syria) the reality of going there now, knowing I am standing on the same ground and hours within driving distance of it....no way.

Furthermore, I can't believe that in a society I live in, that of course has its own problems, still has a small but fanatical support base for these assholes given how good life here is by comparison. I cant even comprehend why anyone would leave here to go join these people. Dont forget they are using thisas propaghanda, recruiting young people by promising them an 'Islamic Paradise' like some sort of Islamic Disneyland; but when you see those videos how can you possibly look at them and think 'yes, yes this is what I want in my life, this is the greater cause.' Its not even about religious ideals, its a cult for those who worship violence. Even if I believed in a god, I couldnt fathom how such acts of needless violence would appease them. I normally not a believer of going on the offensive outside home soil. That being said its time for the world to get some kind of coalition formed. Ideally UN but they don't seem to be able to do much these days. I'm still a believer of going in with a Peace Keeping capacity but attack us and we attack back. Probably captured weapon caches in Syria. I doubt Turkey would risk something THIS visible, never mind that they shouldn't have any chem weapon plants in the first place. Assad has/had chlorine gas weapons and Syria operates Grad launchers which may be what the "katyusha" mention in this story refers to.

German defense ministry seems independent enough to me, they didn't see the attack itself but examined the victims which would be enough to determine that it's a gas attack.

There was a bunch of improvised chlorine bombings in Iraq during the occupation that didn't amount to much, just like these didn't. Likely the work of al Qaeda (which being Iraq, effectively means ISIS' earlier incarnation before their expansion into Syria and the split with AQ).

What blows me away is the production values and professionalism on display in their videos. They look like movie shots to the point I thought they were fake at first. Somebody went to school and knows their shit about video editing and this is how they decided to apply their craft. Fucking weird world we live in.
