Decided to splurge a bit, and get somethings I've been interested in.

(Seen here, my phone takes pictures at a level somewhere between a potato and the early prototypes of a camera obscura.)

Heard this is the best One Piece movie.

The last time we saw Yuu she was off at another school. Now we see her just as she's headed off to another school. Well at least they never bothered developing her since they obviously have no interest in using her. Kokone sure has an ego. Mizuki would be proud. She just happens to friends with Miyabi. Really convenient coincidence. She's likable though. Feels like one of the better new characters. Even though I don't get why Yotsuba keeps appearing. He's boring. Now there are 8 among the current main cast. The perfect number.

Berserk Movie [3/3] - The Advent

Alright, so this one managed to exceed my (to be fair, fairly low) expectations. I'm mainly going to be conveying my thoughts on this movie in comparison to the show. If you haven't experienced Berserk yet, you probably shouldn't read this (should you either way?)

A part from a few tidbits I think this is something that the movie did better than the show. Not only with the Eclipse itself, but also in how it tries to wrap it up.
The moment they get in the 'Eclipse area', it becomes rather dark, which is something I liked compared to the show, where it was still rather bright. From the get go it is visible in the ground faces, where In the show they're fully red the entire time.
Now one of my first pet peeves. The God Hand Spawns. Show did it cooler.
+ The deafening sound during Conrad spawning
- No visible face morph into Slan. I always thought that was neat in the show. In this movie she just suddenly rises.
- No bleeding sun Void!?

The "flashback" had a much stronger opening, with the loud church bells ringing throughout the walk and setting the tone. It also actually showed some of the faces of the unique people fallen to his dream.
They decided to skip the boy and the toy in that god awful second movie, so if they had involved him here I guess it wouldn't have made much sense. But it lessened the impact for me nonetheless.

The feast itself was graphic! In this section in the show there was plenty of still shots. Now I don't mind them for the most part, but it was nice to see a bit more animation for a change. A very specific scene felt like it would never end! I kept thinking to my self, "hey, shouldn't this be over by now? no? okay then".

About this point is where the show says fuck you and abruptly ends. Now the good thing about this movie is that it actually shows more! Which brings up another good thing about this movie. Skull Knight!
Not only does his presence make a reasonable way to escape, but it also briefly displays the power of the God Hand. As well for a small moment raises some questions about Femto's intensions.
Another thing I liked was the visuals of when Griffith "transcended", and how it later returns to it afterwards with the last tear. Now I sort of wanted "Lost Chapter" to be included as it is one of my favorite chapters. But I can see why they wouldn't.
Skull Knight got some love, and so did Silat to my surprise (why was he replaced by some random knight in the show?). All good in my book. Still no love for Wyald! RIP.

tl:dr
Despite some shortcomings, this was a good and graphic visualization of the Eclipse with a better wrap up than the old show.
Overall; old show > movie trilogy.
Alternatively; old show up to episode ~21 then watch this movie

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
The guys just treated it like any other femchar popularity poll and voted for their MMO waifu.

Only the girls took the premise seriously.

My Wife is the Student Council President 8 - Should have expected the cross dressing road right away after last weeks. The sexy nurse archetype never gets old.

The Balloon launch itself was a little forshadowing to future events, imo, bit nobody really knows because the manga is still ongoing, with no end in sight from what's been said.

Gakkou Gurashi really feels like it's building to some big event. Trying to contact the outside world always seems to lead to tragedy in these types of stories.
I feel like if they are going to do an original ending, doing something with these balloons would be a great idea. People will have forgotten about them in an episode or two, but it happened. What if someone got a hold of a letter?

Passion Jalapeno. Skips. Fluffy Sweet Nadeshiko. None of those names really match up too Tristar, Soleil, or Powa Powa Puririn (okay, maybe Puririn and Nadeshiko are comparable), but they're still much better than Double M or the 2wingS garbage. Kokone is the worst idol thus far, which makes her one of the best. Dancing Diva seems to be starting out ahead in the Unit Cup, which I approve of. Things are set up well enough that I don't think Skips is guaranteed to win this. It helps that Akari hasn't really been put on a pedestal yet, at least not in any way comparable to the grooming Ichigo got. Even Yuu has been dragged back with that person who keeps appearing. I don't think they got the memo that they're not allowed to so anything.

Now this is a weirdass list -

Japanese Fans Rank Anime's Ladies with the Scariest Tempers

I dunno why Asuna is on there and I really, really don't know why Revy isn't on there. At least Balalalalalalalalaika is.

The weirdest thing about it is that the women voted for School Days and Prison School characters. Who would have thought? Also, is Asuna known for getting angry? Haven't watched Mother's Memento but she never really got angry at anything in the show.

Nagisa no Asuka ep. 1-3
So, along with Chihayafuru I started this one as well tonight. So far, it is very interesting with the two week woman that are both childhood friends, but the MC is a tsundere gut that doesn't know how to feel about anything through the first three episodes. At least he makes an attempt to reel back his tsundere attitude by apologizing to people, but he can't be honest with himself. The fact they cannot interloper with the land people without being banished from the sea village just adds a whole new level of drama to what is happening. I'd they don't mate with sea females the village could go extinct. It's a shame they are al ready looking at losing the MC's "fated" mate since early childhood as well as his sister to land men. That just leaves the one other girl that loves him to hook up with. Man, I can already see the drama building. ..uggh.

At least the artwork and coloring are great. I love the way they do the underwater village.

Feel like that list has a few people on it, that shouldn't be there.

I don't recall Misaka getting angry that often in Railgun.

Erza from Fairy Tail doesn't get really angry after the first few arc either.

Mikasa seems like she gets depressed more often than angry.

Endless Night (Animator Expo)

Kind of felt like a music video or a long OP. Very good animation. Are there any figure skating anime/manga? There probably is at least one.

Animator Expo 28 - Endless Night

About what I expected from it. It's a music video directed by Sayo Yamamoto featuring real ice skating choreography rotoscoped and referenced into a well directed animated short. The use of color and effects is also kinda similar to her Space Dandy dancing music video. There were some pretty nice transitions and good editing. Not something I find particularly memorable though.

'Skips' blows.

fuck skips.

I'm surprised to learn it was rotoscoped. It doesn't have that too-real stiffness I associated with rotoscoping.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Episode 69
Yuzu-oneechan pulled a Futoshi and went all Shiveru, that was really thrilling episode. Sora's training and teacher her back in the day really paid off as she used some great combos and tactics taking full advantage of the summoning schools and action cards. Choujiro's entertainment dueling wasnt bad either.

I hope we get an eventual Yuzu-oneechan v Serena duel

Ok, wtf was that garbage, lol. I mean, that was just messed up, but a nice view to wake up with I guess. So much sexual angst in this trashy series, uuggh.

'Skips' blows.

fuck skips.

I mean, it is the worst of the new units (partially because the name sucks, partially because their song is eh, partially because Madoka is a bore aside from her secret sadist side), but the name is still better than whatever 2wingS is.

Aikatsu 137-138

Jalapeno had a better performance than Nadeshiko and Skips. They were robbed. The lousy backstage report must've done them in. Nadeshiko punched above their level due to the hiccup drama. DanDiva was the best of course, but they're been the best since day 1. Skips won due to the drama. Moral of the story: idols should manufacture crises to boost their ratings during competitions. Audiences love a good drama. I'm going to blame Raichi.

Infinite Ryvius 5

Yuki sounds like a great younger brother. After all isn't it brotherly love to beat the crap out of him for something out of his control?

Back on earth a coverup of what's happened is in the works.

It took awhile but the show appears to be moving forward after a somewhat slow start.

Just finished watching Black Bullet. I really liked it. I would love to see a season 2 but doubt its going to happen.

Next up is Blood+ which I have heard wonderful things about.

I don't see much talk about Im@s Cinderella Girls, should I contiinue past ep 6 or so when I put it on hold or just drop it
There's not much to talk about, other than the fact that the "complication" in the second half of the series is more interesting than the antagonists from the original.

It really has turned out to be Major League in anime idol form.

watch the original series if you haven't instead

Already did (fuck an idol named Miki)

I'll see how it goes in s2, I didn't drop it due to dissatisfaction or anything, just want to make sure I dont bother catching up if it was hot ass or something

Rather than Idolmaster, more people should watch the superior idol anime: Shounen Hollywood.

I heard about that and never got around to it, I'll add it to my Now Watching

Having watched it right after AoT, Black Bullet felt kind of same-y with its similar theme of edginess, despair and graphic violence, only it replaced do-nothing Eren with a walking power fantasy MC and was an imouto fest (that happened to kill some of them). Even the opening felt similar with the way it started and ended.

Today was me and my cousin's third random CR dinnertime, and we happened to get Miss Monochrome. It was okay, and definitely a lot better than the two shows we got on previous days (Fairy Musketeers and Hozuki no Reitetsu), in part due to having extremely short episodes (we watched the whole ED thinking it was the OP, and then the episode ended). We watched up to EP5, which took about 16 minutes in all since each ep was three minutes in length plus the ED, which we skipped after the first time.

Memories are priceless. They collectively make up our perception of reality; from our past to our future they shape our view of the world, those around us as well as our self. And even so, our memories are fragile with each person’s being different and we interpret them in different ways each and every time we jump back and forth between them, reconstructing and refining them. This is intrinsic to the way in which our brains work and thus relying on our memories alone for a definitive truth is difficult, as memories by their very nature are subjective and ever evolving. We re-experience those events each and every time we recollect them.

Memories are powerful and memories make up what we know as our identity. They personify our past and give our lives a narrative, like a film or a book. This is what makes each and every one of the seven billion people on the blue planet we call earth, unique. What makes our memories so fascinating is the gentle balance between the chemical reactions and synaptic transmissions in our brain and our romanticized view of what we like to call imagination. Our memories by definition are flawed, skewed in a way that may benefit ourselves, sometimes blocking out certain fragments that we wish to forget, or to focus on the events that we wish to remember. Our childhood, our family, our home, our friends, the first time you rode a bike, your first love, we all harbor such memories within ourselves, each time that little bit different shaping and changing our view of our selves.

Nostalgia, the desire to rewind and pause time, to go back to a place that we remember fondly, but as I stated above those memories themselves have been altered and changed to a degree that what we remember may not actually represent reality, and yet we yearn to go back. Maybe it’s the feelings attached to nostalgia that we actually thrive on instead of the notion of actually going back in time itself. Change is scary, and yet it is inevitable. Everything changes including the world around us, often making us feel as if we do not belong anymore. The past is always more desirable, and yet today will one day become the past we too crave. Maybe it’s the fact that we look back with new eyes and from a different viewpoint that makes looking back so satisfying.

Humans have always had a desire to find the truth, to gain and share our experiences, but in the end there’s no one truth, just many different ideas and facts that can be reinterpreted again and again. But that’s the point, the fixation with finding a defined truth is not the important part, it’s the journey that we are attracted to.

It is this theme that brings us to Kaiba, a 2008 animated series directed by Masaaki Yuasa, the man behind series such as Ping Pong and The Tatami Galaxy among many other striking series and films and like the aforementioned series, Kaiba is a short series capping off at 12 episodes. Prior to Kaiba I had not seen any of Yuasa’s other series but it goes without saying that I was nevertheless very aware of his talents and merits. Being a show that centers on the theme of memories, Kaiba can without a doubt come across as strange at times, dreamlike in its structure, it flows like a lucid dream. Nothing is what it seems as the main character jumps from body to body, from place to place.

In the world of Kaiba, memories can be preserved and transferred from body to body so in this sense, the death of the body is not the death of the person. People work in order to afford the perfect body, but still retain their memories. Kaiba delves into the idea of the marriage between our physical being, our memories and the importance of identity. The things that we lock up, our experiences, our memories are what make us who we are.

Kaiba follows an episodic structure with each episode telling a different story, but each episode is still tied together and as the series progresses it becomes more focused until it reaches its conclusion. I generally have no qualms with either approach, being a big fan of episodic series and as such I found myself enjoying the first half of the series more although it too wasn’t without its faults. The stories themselves are great and highly fascinating and it’s abundantly clear that a lot of thought and consideration has gone into the research and preparation for Kaiba. What didn’t work for me however is the juxtaposition of the somber, sad tone of this dystopian world and the more flamboyant scenes that try to dabble in both comedy and spectacle which can get in the way of it all, like oil and water they don’t mix here, almost like telling a joke at a funeral I find myself awkwardly sitting there wishing to move on. Am I supposed to laugh or cry as a once sad scene unceremoniously jumps into a comedic one that hits you with its punchy and vibrant visuals?

One of the first things that stood out from this series is the beautiful visuals. Kaiba is without a doubt a fantastic looking series with inspired character designs by Nobutake Ito who also did the character designs for The Tatami Galaxy. The visuals pop and come to life with each and every frame. Kaiba is a series that is reliant on its characters so it’s a good thing that the designs are as vibrant, varied and as interesting as they are.

Kaiba is covered with many little details that make up the world and ultimately it’s these intricate little details that add life to this world. The world building is done through its visuals and many things are never said outright but instead shown and I appreciated this. The world itself is beautifully animated with personality oozing from each and every frame. I’d say that the character designs and visuals may remind one of something that you’d see in a Tezuka production, which is to say charming, full of life and pleasing to the eyes.

The music in Kaiba is also pleasant and does its job, a few tracks got my mind racing and blood pumping however I'd say that the music is a week link here, with none of the pieces being memorable and a few tracks feeling out of place. The soundtrack is composed by Kiyoshi Yoshida (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time). To continue the theme of audio, the voice acting is perfect and I have no qualms in that department. Each line is delivered with conviction and the voice actors really sell each and every line and deliver the emotional punches needed in quick succession. While I’m on the subject, the OP is great and makes for an appropriate introduction to each and every episode, with a catchy song and beautiful visuals that represent the quality of the series perfectly while the ED bookends each episode nicely and allows for you to soak all of the events in.

Even though I have many qualms with Kaiba, from the pacing to the comedy, I still would like to express my happiness that such a series was able to come to fruition in a world of copycat clones full of uninspired stories, dull characters and art that lacks any conviction, lacking any attempt by the creators to push the boundaries and test the audience, instead opting to give everyone what they want in order to appeal for the lowest common denominator. Kaiba is without a doubt a passion project, one that has successfully found an audience that it speaks to, and that makes me happy. So even though I didn’t enjoy Kaiba as much as I expected, as much as that pains me to say, the fact that it found love elsewhere has me at ease.

I can say without a doubt that I enjoyed many aspects of this series, however the theatrics and the mishmash of scenes and emotions ended up being too much for me. Before picking up Kaiba I desperately wanted it to be the next big thing which is why it might have ultimately fallen short with such big shoes to fill. A few of the episodes are outstanding, hitting me just where it needed to while other episodes are littered with great ideas here and there but ultimately those seeds fail to bloom into anything other than promise. And thus Kaiba was a disappointment for me. Many moments took me out of my otherwise meditative state that the show had me in. In the end I still enjoyed Kaiba, but not as much as I expected to, but maybe one day my memories of this show will become fonder.

Memories are powerful and memories make up what we know as our identity and reality which is why we should cherish them, even if they aren’t exactly what we expected.

7/10.

Kokoro Connect was good. At times it was great. It never managed to become incredible. It had all the potential in the world and everything on its side but it was always afraid to take one more step out of the established tropes and turn into something excellent. It wouldn't suprise me if it many people were disappointed by the end.

Salvage is more than incredible, though.

Kokoro Connect really took me in by surprise, I didn't expect it to be that good as a character study, I guess this surprise is partly why I found it incredible. As for the 'established tropes' you mentioned, I'm not entirely sure I get what you're saying with that, care to elaborate?

watch part 3, it gets a bad rep for some reason but it's the most visually creative (although quite a few eps of part 2 are up there) of lupin

all 50 eps of part 3 are up on hulu

even if they're not connected, I would still feel weird about watching part 3 before part 2. :/
