Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition on August 24, $20 (25% off sale at launch)

Stealth? Not sure I would call all of the announcements the past 3 months a stealth release. GOG is livestreaming it in two hours, it's on their front page, it will be on the front page of Humble, etc. I think your definition of stealth is a bit off.

I mean, no launching the page on the same moment the game is released ! :(
Didnt knew about Humble and GOG though ! Will the game be sold on GMG too ?

"Dreamcast VMS Save File Support"

Hmm. Please someone tell me it's not just a dreamcast emulator wrapped in an executable.

Also, SkyBox Labs is listed as a second developer.

I'd imagine the way the save serialized/deserialized in the DC version just happened to spit out to work perfectly as a DC emulator VMS file.

Can't control Steam -- Steam had us in the queue for 9AM PST, so we have to play by their rules.

So, a no frills port with an annoying bug that will probably get patched quickly. Disappointing, but it still sounds like the best version of the game. Hopefully, the Hard mode is more than a slight HP bump OR somebody mods a proper hard mode into the game post-release.

Win 8.1

Oh well, will refund if this doesn't sort itself out today. I can wait.

Yeah, I was thinking they'd reencoded the FMV with modern codecs or something.

Oh yeah that would make a lot of sense. Would be much smaller in H264, but if they didn't have access to original pre-bink(?) compressed files I'd probably rather they stuck with only one level of compression TBH.

Glancing at the depot list at steamdb, I'd say that only the redist depots and the root depot are being downloaded.

i want to say to those of you playing this game for the first time:
about 15 years ago (!), i played grandia 2 to completion. it's one of probably 5 jrpgs i've ever finished in my entire life. it was a really memorable experience for me, and i hope you feel the same way about it. have fun!

From practical experience you can cut filesize by more than 3/4 going from typical 2000-era (before DivX, really) codecs/settings, especially from console games, to h264 with tiny, virtually unnoticable additional artifacts on top of artifacts introduced in the original encodes. It's a tradeoff I'm completely willing to make.

I'm actually not at all disappointed that this is a relatively straight port with a few tiny bells and whistles. It's still the best version of the game and on a living platform.

Now get to work on Lunar(s)!

So are we gonna find out this is the old PC port with 60 FPS battles disabled to keep it from crashing next or something?

This post is dumb, ignore it, it's 100% false.

I'd really like to see some sort of update to Grandia Xtreme with like a save anywhere feature. Would make me actually want to play it again.

I am a bit bummed out that the old laptop couldn't handle an hd resolution. I was hoping to pick up a surface pro3/4 and use this as my on the go/stream to bed machine for older RPGs on steam.

Hmmm, not a fan of 30 FPS. Also, all my machines are running Win10x64, so I guess I can't even play this if I wanted to.

Gonna buy it for the sale price and hope they patch things up. Would be nice if they got it running at 60 FPS, but won't hold my breath; don't want to die.

Apparently the Steam version isn't all the files, no one can run it

Too bad this port wasn't completely legit, I guess the writing was on the wall.

Those screens at RPGsite are a real nostalgia-breaker btw. I remember this game looking amazing when it originally came out for the DC. It looks more dated than I would've imagined.

Cause updating to 60 requires extra work and QA, prolly not in budget.

QA is the real killer here for stuff like this and widescreen.

It's a customer's prerogative to want features.

It's a developer's responsibility to make sure it doesn't break anything else within the entire product. From back to front, in every nook and cranny.

It's not as bad as FF7 elbows but yeah the models are pretty outdated. The world is still really charming, at least, and the battle mechanics hold up really well.

The original Dreamcast release was 30 fps. This is more or less a straight port of the Dreamcast version with some few additions.

Could this be my first ever steam refund? I did this it was strange when the download was 274MB, that can't be right.

Can't remember a launch being this botched

Enabling the full download is hard, you know? I do not know if that is Steams fault or Gunghos.

I'll bite once the problem is sorted out.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Game crashes when I try to load. Anybody else have this issue?

My copy was a Steam version and it worked (on Windows 7). But it was technically a 'Beta' version so that doesn't mean too much.
