The UI is a cluttered mess, kinda reminds me of a gambling machine.... I have no idea what I am clicking on.

Yes, nothing changes really in the streaming factor, just instead of your stream being sent to Twitch you send it to YouTube. OBS, Xsplit, etc will all work fine. Now, as for the capture card natively streaming to YouTube without a third-party streaming program I do not know. I use AverMedia and its native streaming program allows me to, can't say if Elgatos. It is better to just use OBS anyways.

Okay so let me ask you this since you seem fairly knowledgeable in this area; what's the best solution for high quality streaming and simultaneous recording?

Are the main page videos selected by your viewing history or popularity? because I really don't want tons of FIFA PACKET OPENINGS LIVE videos, I never watch them.

*edit* video playback performance is great HTML5 is only using half of my old cpu to watch a 720p stream, sadly the entire website kills firefox performance and gives me huge pauses in responce which means it's shit for me to use while I work.

Once you get used to the layout I think it is fine but I agree first time using it is a clusterfuck but after 30mins I think it is better than Twitch.

I don't get the complaints, love it so far. Very smooth experience all round. Skipping to an earlier part of the stream is pretty much instantaneous, which alone is enough to make me stick with YouTube over Twitch when given the choice.

I know right. Scrubbing in live feeds is just too good. No more waiting for an arbitrary time for the vod to be available or not available.

It really depends on your computer. However, I find the biggest factor in high quality streaming/recording is the bitrate. The higher it is, the better. Youtube allows for a maximum of 9000 bitrate so I have streamed beautiful 1080p at 60fps on there while recording a local copy as well. However, not all computer can handle that, so you should definitely play with that on your own computer. I use OBS as the streaming software, by the way and this is a great guide to help: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/guide-how-to-stream-to-youtube.4333/

Once again, streaming-wise... it's not at all different between streaming to twitch or youtube. You just put in a different server and server key into your streaming software, that's all. The added bonus with Youtube is that its player allows its viewer to watch at a lower setting if they need to. Twitch doesn't.

definitely better than twitch IMO.
Out of curiosity what about it is better than twitch to you? I have only messed around with it for a few minutes and my only complaint is the UI.

I am curious as to what people think about the process of streaming i might stream some heroes and BF4 later.

In no world does this lead to a better UX than twitch

The amount of scrolling you have to do to see at least, say, just a dozen channels is absurd.

Once you get used to the layout I think it is fine but I agree first time using it is a clusterfuck but after 30mins I think it is better than Twitch.

It depends, definitely not as far as streaming is concerned. The importance of getting curated means discovery from the viewer or discovery for the streamer is awful. You can't just browse a list of top games or top streamers.

Just installed the YouTube Gaming app on my Android phone and tried it out - worked really well, quality was excellent and the UI seems very slick.

In my opinion, that is a god-awful UI. It is so busy and cluttered, at first glance I have no idea what's going on and I am overwhelmed with the amount of pictures, tabs, icons. Wow.

I don't think this is doomed, it will get better and I trust Google/YouTube will improve the service over time, it's literally just launched but I did start to watch a Gears of War Ultimate Edition stream and it was smooth 1080p and the detail was excellent. YouTube at E3 was perfection for me after using Twitch, and something like this with Sony's integration for PS4 3.00 is going to be even better for it, but right now it's going to be ironing out the kinks pretty quickly.

I used desktop UI (Chrome Win10), Opened Hearthstone, live streams section. It only opened up two streams. It seemed weird, so I refreshed and THEN rest of them appeared.

I do appreciate the ability to favorite games, but the site seems bugged atm. Also, when watching uploaded videos list of a Youtube channel, every few rows is HIGHLIGHTED WITH MASSIVE ICONS for no good reason. I had to look at video time tags to make sure that it was indeed a chronologically ordered list, because the video icons were just jumping all over the place.

I clicked the most popular stream, escapist stream. It was offline. Weird, because it showed up in "live" section. I browsed around a bit, came back few mins later and the escapist stream was STILL visible in "live" section even though it was offline when I clicked it (again).

Gaming-side lists only use about half of screen real estate to show lists. It's especially annoying when half of videos ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH BIG ICONS.

First impression: instant replay is nice but other than that, I highly prefer cleaner and more simple interfaces of normal Youtube & Twitch.

opinions or fact?

IMO, in no world does this lead to a better UX than twitch.

Objectively, you have to interact with the site much more to still see much less compared to twitch. This doesn't even include the fact that a game's landing page doesn't just include streams but rather a hybrid of all its media. IMO, I never had an issue looking for non-streaming content on YouTube, so them trying to make the experience all inclusive is mostly in vein in my opinion. IMO, finding content is as important as watching content itself. IMO, you're better off currently using an android emulator with the mobile app to use the service to browse.

I am not sure I am understanding you. There is a live tab right there. Click on that, pretty simple.

I like that there are a review tab, lets play and and explore tab including a company tab. More info that Twitch.

This will com in handy when you look at a game and have no clue about it.

While I understand that the most popular live-streamers aren't going to switch over from Twitch very soon, I wonder if we're going to start seeing developers use Youtube for live streaming instead of Twitch. I'd imagine that the most devs don't really have to worry about the monetization aspect of it, and as far as the actual stream it seems like Youtube allows a higher quality.

Right, you click another link to list only streams. I'm making the distinction that the landing page doesn't inherently just list streams.

Neither does twitch.

Edit well the profile page doesn't, my mistake.
Is it really that hard to click on the live link?

UI is interesting and I actually appreciate that there are music app "playlist" type widgets, but I agree it's probably too busy. I assume they were trying to give it an appeal, but maybe simplicity would've been better. Are the skin and widgets customizable?

There are widgets? I do agree some editing is needed.

Already edited my post. Anyway that is a small detail. Is it that big of a deal?

Youtube gives you far more info that twitch per game.

Not only is it for streaming but I can see let's plays, company uploaded videos, reviews, etc. for the specific game.

This is great.

If I want to know about a game, instead of going to youtube and searching looking through many videos, I will go to youtubegaming and get all the info I need.

This is actually a good thing, to me. I like that YT is trying to encompass prerecorded footage into Let's Plays, Reviews, etc.

Legitimately curious, which streaming site do you guys think has the best UI for their main pages?

Twitch doesn't show enough info and is ugly. hitbox is too tiled but pretty solid. YTG's sidebars are too distracting, but their quick live banner is nice. And the videos are way too large.

I'd have to say hitbox's is probably the best at this stage.

For those commenting on the homepage UI..

First, thanks for the feedback. :)

Second, we're working on a few performance issues that have cropped up during the launch regarding loading on gaming.youtube.com. Stay tuned.

Additionally, try importing / adding your gaming channels you already subscribe to on YT and also add your favorite games. The homepage takes on a much different feel once it's the channels and games that you love.

Do you have any insight on the mobile app? I'm in Canada but it says it's not available in my country
