PS4 Firmware 3.0 Features

Now that I think about it, Communities could be a game changer. I wonder how moderation will work with things like GoT and MGSV spoilers. It would be nice if there were official communities that were moderated by Sony in addition to the user made ones. That way, it could be like Miiverse (but better).

Great update.

They definitely heard their consumers about PNG and online storage.

And on a serious note: I think we are 1 or 2 updates away of having all the PS3 features implemented again + all the new "next-gen-stuff"

[*]Online storage capacity increase: PlayStation Plus members’ PS4 cloud storage capacity will increase from 1GB to 10GB

[*]Screenshots: We’ve listened to your feedback and we’re happy to confirm that PNG format is now an option for Screenshot saves

Best. Update. Ever. :)

Still no friend notifications or sorting options worth a damn. Sony has clearly put the priority of social and share functionality, and I couldn't care less about that shit as long as the library is still a cluttered and broken mess. The increased cloud save storage is great, but it is a temporary bandaid on the core problem of PS4 game saves being fucking enormous. The 10GB limit will be fine if they have also worked on shrinking save files.

To the people who are concerned that 10 Gb will be too little: how much space do your saves take up? Because I have games like Driveclub and I haven't hit the 1GB at all, I really don't think we're gonna hit a cap that's ten times as much as it was before that quickly, but maybe my game library is tiny compared to others.

Great update, it feels like Sony are really listening to feed back now.

Now if they can apply the screenshot improvements to video capture and give us 1080p recording on the Share Button or at least use a better compression method so 720p clips look sharper and not fuzzy, then we will really be talking.

The last time my 1Gb limit was reached, the Driveclub demo was the culprit. There was over 300MB of saves for it (ghosts times etc). Majority of save files are 10.49MB, but others DNGAF about having small sizes and can reach hundreds of MBs.

Sony announced few new features that will come with 3.0 firmware. They say this is not final list.

  • Online storage capacity increase: PlayStation Plus members’ PS4 cloud storage capacity will increase from 1GB to 10GB

Holy shit, THANK YOU. Update redeemed. 1GB of storage was just pathetic in this time of 300MB+ save files. It wasn't even worth trying to manage, I had pretty much given up. And PNG, wooh. YouTube streaming and communities are also nice.

Don't understand why increasing cloud storage requires a firmware update though, surely that'd just be a serverside change. Sony works in mysterious ways. Perhaps they're just doing it at the same time to get an extra bullet point on the list, even though it really has nothing to do with the update.

It depends on the games you own. Some games have saves that are several hundred mb.

Looks all great so far. I hope Communities is excatly what I imagine because this will be godsend for FFXIV clans and alike. No more just having everyone in a chatgroup to coordinate dates for raids. I guess the calender icon in the upper XMB will take you directly to these new features. Still hoped for a proper calender Integration like on Vita with personal notifications and timers for pre-ordered games and events. But awesome that Sony is listening to some of our requests.

I hit 1GB before I started playing Driveclub, LBP3 is what did me in. There's several other games that apparently suck up hudreds of megabytes, but even with just the normal saves there's only room for 100 saves, and that includes each save in a multi-slot game. Now with the higher limit we can have 1000 saves, assuming no LBP3 type games taking up half a GB.

Reminds me of the old 100 bubble limit on the Vita.

Well thats a social feed not the UI
That's the social feed, not the UI :/

UI literally consists of 2 horizontal lines, it's the cleanest UI you could get.
Heh, was half-joking (though not sure who came up with this new rule that the social feed isn't a part of the User-Interface. Cause they're wrong).

Wouldn't mind if that bit was cleaned up in any case. Otherwise I don't have too many complaints about the PS4 menu, except that it's bland. It's definitely not complicated to use though.

MKX uploads videos which is taking all my 1GB space.A single game!

So, who's making the NeoGAF community? It would be amazing if there's always hundreds of gaffers online to play MP games with.

PNG screenshots is a great improvement.
Cloud storage would have been nice but it's still behind a paywall.
Nothing else for me besides that in this update so far. I'm curious what "There’s a lot more included in this update" will be.

Sorry if this has been asked, I had a quick read of the OT but couldn't find it. When does the new firmware supposed to come out?

3.0 seems to be best firmware update so far.

Communities, request watching, Events and PS+ higher cloud storage.

I hope somebody makes a Neogaf community.

Sounds like a great update. The PNG screenshots and Cloud storage are much needed, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Communities stuff.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
With PNG screenshots(hopefully 1080p allowed), i don't want to see any excuses to not have tons of shots in the screenshot thread

ugh the store is still a mess.

they make it impossible to find demos. like I still can't find them on the new UI of the store. horrible.

What in the world. I didn't know this was happening. Thank goodness. The store has always been insanely cluttered.

I actually liked it before the update but they may have changed it due to marketing reasons. The Vertical banner layout they had was unfairly bias towards towards the first screen which can only fit like 3 game pics.

This is still my favorite store.
psn_store_1.jpg

That update to the classic web store browser was so smooth on ps3.

I constantly have to delete less important saves from my online storage. Each Telltale game takes about 70MB, GTA V and Rocket League take a few hundred MB's each. And those are only the most extreme cases. Basically it's hard to find a game that needs "only" 10MB for save storage.

The only things I find interesting are the storage increase and the PNG option for the captures.

There are good improvements, but overall seems like a pretty disappointing (major) FW update. The rest is pretty much useless for me.

It is perhaps being stored on your local PS4 cloud? ;)

Sport titles kill storage. If you play Madden, NBA 2K, Fifa and WWE storage is gone very quickly

they said invites were supposed to start going out 8 hours ago. either the NDA is very strict or the invitation pool was super shallow.

So sick.

Now make the UI better looking and more responsive (especially the home button UI) and improve PSN's speed and reliability and you'll be good.

Oh and stop with the bullshit Tuesday releases without giving us a regular time that the store updates. It's barbaric.
