Tried the recommended trick of filling up a level with crap, just to get unlocks, but its only happened once so far. So I've only unlocked the 2nd batch of tools which is not that much more... I need all the tools!

I guess some people might get overhwelmed by the sunken ship of enemies near the start even if it's not a stricky as it initially looks.

Less Bloopers in the swarm of them could benefit things, I think 2 or 3 is enough to put the fear into most people.
Now I'm curious about this shortcut.

Taking your advice about the bloopers. I'm going to put a coin under the submarine so people can see the secret if they die. Hint: the HUGE shortcut is right after Bowser Jr's submarine.

Bought a Wii U Super Mario 3D World + Nintendo World bundle and Mario Maker today. This game finally motivated me to get a current gen system.

Will play around with it some more after work tonight.

Sucks that, unless I'm missing something, the old Nintendo login I made years ago was apparently only for Club Nintendo and that all that information's gone now.

It was, it is all gone now but you're not missing out on anything.

Post your levels when you make 'em!

Did you use everything that previously unlocked?

Is anyone else having trouble getting snapshots to look just right due to them being off-center? I sure wish it took a snapshot of exactly what was on the screen.

Fixed the annoying lower route on my 2 route level to not be stupid hard but still not a cake walk. Before the bottom path was so punishing to not be viable unless you fell into it accidentally.

Also had to make sure the jump at the end resulted in less head bump into lava. ;)

Now I think I have an achievable short, but challenging, 2 route level.

Here's my couple of levels

5156 0000 0016 980D (Cave Madness)
B533-0000-0017-0C38 (Spin to Win)

I've been told twice the first one is too hard but I thought it was okay. Second one is just a dumb idea I wanted to try.

Finally got my paws on the game!! :D Wooooo!

One question, is the NES Mario Amiibo's arm meant to be... uh, bent outwards? (towards the cardboard when looking at it from the side if you've still got it in the packet) I've never seen it from the side so I guess I was just expecting it to be straight.

I wish there was an app on your phone for this game to paste all these level codes into it and have it send them to the game so that they're queued there waiting for you to play. There are just too many levels coming in as more people get the game. Would be nice.

I just uploaded my first proper level! That was way more fun than I thought it would be.
Give it a spin if you'd like.

I know other people have said it works, but for me, I had to fill levels with crap and then reset my clock. It was annoying, but it worked.

Hmm no, i'll try that.

Made my first level with the limited amount of tools i have. i did paste the code to a random Twitch streamer who requested levels, and to my surprise she beat it within a few tries.

So far its had 42 players attempt it with only 7 Clears.

Edit: Its a short level

I'm going to keep a running list of my levels. I will be playing a SHIT ton of GAF levels once I finish unlocking everything.

Careful Landings (a few jumps require semi-precise landing, otherwise simple level)

Twist And Soar (about 20-25 seconds with a small gimmick at the end)

It's short but that made me replay it after I beat it to see if I can speed through it, and realised I could do it if I wanted.

Sweet that's a good sign! That's what I was going for, a level that once you understand it is smooth.

Can't wait until the next set of tools opens up. Still on the basic stuff and it's so fun.

I feel like all the low completion rates are because people die really far into a level and then don't wanna play the beginning again. This game really needs checkpoints.
... or maybe people could, you know, make levels fitting the game, something any designer would do? Messy levels would be messy regardless.

I don't think it has anything to do with messy level design, and I agree people can learn to make great things with the tools they have. There are probably just a large portion of people with short attention spans that just quit the level once they die, and checkpoints would help with that.

Picked up the Limited Edition with the Amiibo for $69aud which was an awesome price!

Quick question, where are all the levels made by special guests? Like Miyamoto's, the IGN guys etc.

Is it possible to play as another skin while undertaking either the 10 or 100 Mario challenge? Not including hitting a mystery mushroom block within a course, I mean.

Ehhh, checkpoints allow you to ramp up difficulty more gradually and explore and twist the core gimmicks of your stage in depth without requiring 2 stages, not to mention allowing you to get more intense during the stage instead of just at the end, allowing for a precious breather for the player. They add a lot to the structure of a level of utilized correctly.

I think I actually made a semi decent level for once. Not gimmicky, just a little tricky, but short.

How do you unlock more tools? I want the 3 and world tile sets.

When you get the notification that your next shipment will be tomorrow, spam a bunch of easy to place objects like blocks.

Then you will get notified that your shipment arrived sooner than expected.

Then use the heck out of those new items.

And so on and so forth.

Just uploaded my first Mario Maker stage! I spent an embarrassing number of hours testing and tinkering. I enjoyed using a very modest set of tiles.
It's more of a puzzle than an action stage, but I think it's still tricky. Good luck! I wonder whether anyone will beat it.

I work as a game designer so I didn't expect to want to do game design work in my gaming time, but it's so fun to see how the Mario pieces work together.

I wish we could make and share custom playlists, the 100 mario challenge, for example, is filled with crappy levels.

Hey guys, this has probably been answered to death... but I got Super Mario Maker yesterday and was able to update it to v1.0.1 after midnight. I'm playing it now, though, and just got the message that new course elements are being queued up for the next day.

But isn't the patch supposed to "fix" that so you don't have to wait a whole day?

Any idea what's going on?

I am. One of my levels is in the second post of the thread.

Make sure you've placed one of every item in your level then just scribble in you level with ground blocks for a minute or two to trigger the shipment.

Spam a bunch of blocks or items you can fill up the level with.

Then your next shipment should arrive "earlier than expected' by truck.

Then use those new items a good amount and the cycle will repeat.
