I think you forgot the code! ;)

D'oh! I'll just quote the whole thing again since new page yadda yadda

Mineshaft Mayhem is an attempt to make a vertical level in SMB3. I started to run out of blocks (in fact, the non-sub-world is at the maximum number of blocks!) so i had to start making each "area'" wider before thinning back out at the top. Kind of a reverse hourglass.

There are 3 hidden 1ups and (should be!) 100 coins, so if it were to come up in 100 Mario Challenge hopefully people can break even on it if they poke around.

I spent a lot of time on this one, so hopefully people enjoy it! I should have toned down the difficulty in certain sections but I'd already spent so long on everything that I didn't have the energy to re-engineer much.

Is there a way to get enemies to walk back and forth instead of just walk right off the edge of platforms? I want to put some goombas on a mushroom platform but they keep walking off. :/

Red koopas don;t walk off platforms. Other than that, no. You'll need to put a block to stop them.

Movement for enemies are fixed... if you want "back and forth" enemies you should use red koopa, dry koopa or those helmet guys

I made another level!

Unlike my last level, which was tough as nails, this one is very easy to beat! However, the twist is that this level has a "story" to tell. How you interpret it is up to you!

So i bought the game and immediately went into the play mode as soon as passing the minisclue tutorial. Yeah, creating aint for me dude.

I dont know how to play the game. Seems like theres a lot of horse shit levels on this "Course World" page that aren't worth my time.

Am I correct in saying there's no checkpoint system in levels? They also seem very very short.

Coolest level I played so far had me transform into zero suit Samus. I laughed my ass off as her music played.

Other than that what's the point. Whats my goal?

Should I play 10 Mario mode or 100 Mario mode.

Did Nintendo make any levels for this or is it all user stuff? I want to play a badass game.
The 10 Mario mode showcases Nintendo's levels.

The 100 Mario mode uses levels from users.

It's pretty challenging in that underwater level kind of way. Intentionally tried to make it a bit frustrating.

Hi everyone, loving all the courses posted in here!

I've made a bunch of really dumb ones but I tried my hand at something a bit more ambitious today.

"The Great Goomba Escape!!"

0B98-0000-0033-BE02

You're a trapped Goomba in a castle where other Goombas are being tortured and killed. Help your friends escape!

It's a silly premise but I had some fun with it.

I felt like these 2 turned out pretty fun and aren't terribly difficult

AEE4-0000-0031-B605
CD34-0000-002A-8996

and then I made this one which is called Super Wall Jumpman which is fairly easy if you just keep moving forward and bouncing off walls and koopas since there is nowhere to land safely the entire level. It might be pretty tricky.

6395-0000-0033-1263

Had a lot of fun making them so I hope some people check them out.

Loved it. Coins aided speedrunning immensely. Got all the coins on the first go, too. More people should play this stage to get a good idea about momentum and coin placement. These aspects are very overlooked. I'm going to learn from your example for future stages.

Thank you! I went through and played almost all your levels. I don't how you've made this many good and intricate levels since release! The most impressive profile of levels I've seen so far.

Here's my criticisms; The levels seem to suffer from a single section or two that is excellent in concept but is kinda too cramped and bottlenecks the level in pacing. This would be like the ghost hallway with the helmet & feather in Noisemaker Manor, or getting the helmet as big Mario in Retro Reef (where I have to wait for the 3 blue wall guys to pass).

The boss battle at the end of assault on Goomba Factory is seriously brilliant in design with the p-switches closing the pipe and leaving with the clown car. It kinda runs into the same problem though, because the area is so cramped and crazy, its a bit annoying to get hits on Bowser with the fireflower. At least it was for me. The only other thing is that most of the levels are just a tad too lengthy for my taste, but that could just be me.

Overall awesome levels, I love the overall segmented feel of everything, and it's obvious you put in a bunch of time with the visual design and predicting and guiding player movement. Bowser's Heavy Metal Battalion is legit amazing, Steampunk Castle Crusade, and Assault on Goomba Factory are really great as well.

The Goomba: A Sad Tale of Madness. BDAB-0000-0033-2697

Mario had a plan - infiltrate Bowser's Goomba factory and stop him once in for all. He disguised as a Goomba and entered the factory. But what he saw wasn't a group of Goombas cheering and plotting Mario's demise. No - the poor Goombas, unaware of their destiny, lined up and ran towards Mario - their supposed enemy. However, blindly obeying Bowser - they lined up to their deaths, unable to jump over the lava pit.

Mario was a different story - disguised as a Goomba, he could still jump. He shook the feeling off and got into a pipe, disgusted at his giant statue serving as the cause of too many pointless deaths. Goombas were the enemy - but they blindly obeyed their leader disregarding their own lives.

Exiting the pipe - Mario found himself into a cemetery. Souls of lost Goombas were there. Had he began to lose his mind? Surely the impact of seeing a few mushrooms die wouldn't be that great. But Mario - as the only being able to jump and avoid death in that place, saw himself in the feet of the goomba. No matter how many times he took out his disguise, another one would soon appear and he would, once more, see himself as the chestnut he used to stomp without reason.Another pipe lead to their sleeping quarters - and, defenseless, hundreds of goombas were awoken from their sleep to plunge straight into their deaths - as Mario had accidentaly set off a switch. What had Bowser done all these years was much worse than he previously thought - he had to be stopped.

Entering another room, Mario gets a mushroom. This mushroom, however, twists the perspective - even though Mario was giant, he sees the goombas with little Ms and mustaches. He sees the Goombas as Marios. He sees himself in the Goombas. He was also a victim of pointlessly obeying a goal. Just as the Goombas saw Mario as the enemy to be defeated - Mario saw the Goombas as the enemy. Wanting to defeat Bowser at all costs, Mario would throw himself into pointless quests and do anything to kill his foes. Mario was no longer a hero. He gets back to the room with the statue. Seeing himself as the monster he really was, and seeing the statue as a motivator for blind hate - Mario destroys the statue. And when the statue is destroyed - once again Mario can't help but see himself as a Goomba - the disguise he used to infiltrate the fortress now coming back to haunt him.

He reaches Bowser, as Goombas watch from heaven in their clouds. They were the true victims in all this. Simply mediators through which Bowser caused harm to Mario and Mario caused harm to Bowser. They would be created only to live pointless lives. Mario defeats Bowser - but the victory feels meaningless. Mario is just a big a monster as Bowser is. Defeated and with nothing but pain and suffering in mind, Mario blindly leaps to the same fate he had given his foe - for there was not a good side to the battle - only two equal evils.

To get the most out of my Kirby amiibo, I spent this evening working on a recreation of the first stage of Kirby's Dream Land.

Mario's Dream Land (GreenGreens)
E0DC-0000-0033-D109

WVW69iYpcKUxwypVRX

The name came up against the character limit.

My other stages, for reference:

Under where? Under water!
0A26-0000-001F-FD14
As the name suggests, this is a water stage. I tried to focus on pacing and precision swimming. The clear rate is sitting near 60%, so it's not too challenging, although there are some optional coin areas that are a little tricky.

Bridge Out
E7EE-0000-0024-8DDF
A bridge-themed platforming stage. Clear rate is low, even though I don't think there's anything overly fiendish. There's a secret path that lets you skip the majority of the level.

The Biggest Loser
5733-0000-0028-B4AA
Tired of being the stereotypical jolly fat guy, Mario is finally ready to start making some changes in his life. With the right amount of determination, you could help him meet his goals. Run, Mario, run!

And one created by the wife:

Deedle Land 1
9D20-0000-0025-6E65
I asked if she had anything to say to GAF about the level: "Be nice to me."

Springs spawn from the pipe and cannon to push you into the conveyor. If you try to not go into the goal the springs that spawned are on the conveyor and will stop right by the goal trapping you under it.

Does selecting "start over" from the menu count as a death for the death total of the stage? Since you lose a life.

Hmm.. Ok, now I feel like I need to find a way to make myself lose. Haha, first time that's ever happened.

I've been playin' with this all weekend and thought I might share some of the levels that have gotten a star or two in case you guys might want to check them out as well.

WVW69iYO3RMGeIoCaU

Goombacalypse - 8A93-0000-0023-E4D9
Goombas. Goombas everywhere. There are some fun and interesting obstacles that are distinctly goomba flavored.

WVW69iYNOOQPLDAd40

Princess Panic! - 3074-0000-0022-AFFB
My first attempt at an "epic" level with a story if you look for it. It's a little long, but it has some fun costume mushrooms and a big finish.

WVW69iYjAzofjyL7aI

Green Mario's Mansion - DF7E-0000-002F-B63C)
I'm actually really proud of this one. It's a riff on Luigi's Mansion using the new SMB ghost house set because it's so damned neat. There are several secrets to find and a path split near the end and I also tried hard to use the semi-solid platforms to make interesting backgrounds in the rooms.

A couple of others:
Captain Falcon's Wild Ride - CEB8-0000-0031-8099
My "gimmick" level because we all need to make one for some reason. Put on the costume, go through the door, sit tight, then pose with Captain Falcon as he rockets down the pathways.

Thwomps & P-Blocks - 65E4-0000-0033-8FA5
An attempt at a level with some tricky mechanics. Basically, don't let the Thwomps hit the p-blocks or it's over.

Any critique is welcome!

Absolutely not, no. Not at this point. 100M Challenge on normal or expert makes for an exercise in mostly mediocre levels at best at this point, plenty to skip, and a few gems. The few times I've gotten go try GAFer levels its been amazingly well worth it and a huge cut above the rest in terms of quality. Well worth having to punch in codes. Plus just to clarify, just because you punch in a code doesn't mean it has to be saved as one of your 120 levels. Typically you play it immediately then only download it as one of the 120 if you want to get into the editor on that particular stage.

Darn. That really puts a damper on my desire for the game. I just really don't want to ha e to play next to my computer or phone going back and forth to punch in codes. Are the curated & ranked lists of stages they have within the game any good yet?

A few more levels! (I need dem stars!)

Totally Tubular - (3195-0000-0033-6E54)
I wanted to make kind of a spiritual successor to the level Tubular from Super Mario World. For those of you who don't remember, Tubular is one of the Special World levels so it's a bit challenging. Use Lakitu clouds and make it to finish before time runs out! Have fun!
WVW69iYo0jQaKem6FU

Junior's First Airship (DCD3-0000-0033-6DB8)
This airship level is intended to be kind of a World 1 or World 2 tier airship level. Be prepared to avoid a lot of bullets. I don't know about you, but to me it feels pretty authentic to Mario 3.
WVW69iYo0TkSqSxF2x

Wall Hopping & The Hammer Bros - (C797-0000-0033-3B34)
The name should say it all with this level. This level requires the use of wall hopping from New Super Mario Bros U and also features the Hammer Brothers prominently. Medium difficulty level.
WVW69iYogYARYU2ipI

Pardon the quoting of myself but here's a few of the other levels I made

Game of Thwomps - (2030-0000-0032-A10D)
Not a very hard level, but it requires a trick involving thwomps and coins in order to pass it.
https://d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69iYnjJ09c_oGvP

Pipes, Plants, and Peril - (10B4-0000-0030-ABB9)
A fairly simple underground level. Nothing too challenging, designed to be fun. I'd say it's maybe "world 3" level hard.
https://d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69iYkgzUJSmI9IC[

Captain Bowser's Pirate Fleet - (DD3D-0000-0030-C5B6)
Themed to be like a pirate ship that's carrying treasure. It's a bit of an open level that can be a little challenging in spots.
https://d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69iYkqu4pviXlsq

I want to share a shining example of a level made by someone else that feels very much like a classic Mario level, but with the difficulty ramped up. It's not too difficult, mind you, just challenging enough to keep you hooked till you complete it. It has the right pacing and it's straight forward. There aren't really any enemies, it's just simple platforming.

Take a shot at it, guys and tell me if you agree:

My god, there are no words. Staggering.

With "Old School Super Mario", I wanted to start with designing classic Super Mario Bros. levels, consistent visually and gameplay-wise to the very first game: the sort of level you're happy to play on Easy or Normal 100 Mario Challenge to milk costumes, as a relief to nonsense and chaos. I'll eventually release an underground level, a cliff level, and obviously a castle in the same spirit.

Super%2BMario%2BMaker%2BStage%2B%2528niveau%2Bou%2Blevel%2529%2By%2Bcant%2Bmetroid%2Bshoot%2B-%2BTourian.png

I'm a huge NES Metroid fan, and I really wanted to make a NES Metroid world. Eventually, "y cant metroid shoot?" will feature four levels, each being about a NES Metroid section. I started designing Brinstar, but the locked tools made me finish and publish Tourian first, thanks to its focus on action. Obviously it has a Samus Aran power suit costume, but I focused a lot on visuals and atmosphere to recreate the oppression of Tourian, and also on gameplay, obviously, to make it work in the context of Super Mario Maker (fidelity always second after fun).

Sadly, I feel like these don't quite accomplish their goals as well - there's some really unintuitive jumps in the "classic Mario" stage (the triple-koopa near the end is particularly bad about lining up, and the "trap" jump that doesn't work if you are big Mario is a big put-off), and while the Metroid level is very atmospheric, the difficulty in dealing with all those huge Bloopers feels like it distracts from the atmosphere. Maybe cut down on the number of them. And remember, you don't have to put the mushrooms in blocks - they can be out in the world or even right above Mario at the start to change characters!

I wonder if they're planning on patching Luigi in. Luigi has a costume, but it's his modern design and based on Luigi's Mansion.

Otherwise, he's entirely ignored in the game, despite being in all four of the games represented.

Seems like it would be easy to implement. Just add an icon to make Mario turn into Luigi, or double tap Mario or something. And then the level would be a Luigi level.

Two options from me. If you want something neat and visually interesting:

"Don't. Stop. Running."
FCB8 - 0000 - 001C - A5F5

Or, if you want something that makes you suffer for the amusement of your viewers:

"Mr. Chomp's Wild Ride"

Wiggly Waters - (C870-0000-0033-197A)

I spent a few hours on this one, so feedback would be appreciated.

I left you a comment, I enjoyed the tricks of the level and navigation challenges but you put in way too much RNG with bloopers at the later part and it just becomes a trial and error until you get good RNG.
