Just got a 3DS. What all should I play?

I bought Smash, xenoblade chronicles, and donkey Kong country returns.

Want to get the double pack of Mario and P&Dragons.

Other than that. I don't really know.

Probably super Mario 3D land and the Zelda ports.

Hatsune Miku Project mirai DX
Smash Bros
Fire Emblem awaking
Resident Evil Revelations
Pokemon x and y
Pokemon ORAS
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain call
Zelda Ocarina of time
Zelda A link between worlds
Zelda majoras mask
Persona Q
Mario Kart 7
Mario 3d land
Donkey kong country returns 3d
New Super mario bros 2
Animal Crossing A new leaf
Monster Hunter 4 ultimate
Luigi's mansion 2
Star Fox 3d

Going by what you haven't already planned on getting...
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening
  • Fire Emblem: Fates (when it comes out in the West)
  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
  • Bravely Default
  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
  • Pokémon X/Y
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
  • Star Fox 64 3D
  • Tomodachi Life
  • Etrian Odyssey 4
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV
  • Rhythm Heaven Plus (if/when it gets localized)
  • Rhythm Heaven (the DS game, it's only a dollar on Amazon, if I recall correctly)

The console is worth the Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, and A Link Between Worlds alone. Especially ALBW--it's almost without flaw.

Depending on the type of games you like, I would highly recommend trying the demos out on some of these games being recommended. For example, if you like action/platforming games, the Etrian games are far from that.

Based on what you've listed, "A Link Between Worlds" is a great choice to add to your list.

Do you like Sega games? If so, be sure to also check out the Sega 3D Classics line up on the eShop. They're done by M2 and are emulated to perfection often with loads of special features and extra modes to boot.

Retail game wise, you're off to an excellent start with 3D Land, one of the best Mario games of all time and bursting with content and pitch perfect level design. A lot of what I was going to suggest was covered by others. Link Between Worlds is an excellent game if you want something other than OoT and Majora's Mask. The open ended weapon shop system breathes new life into the series.

I'm guessing you "flee" a lot? Old school dungeon crawler sounds intimidating. It's been a long time lol.

Nah, 4 is definitely the best one to ease in to the series with. Instead of just floor after floor that you only can dip a toe into, retreat to town for upgrades, and then dip in further, repeat, 4 has an overworld and is very nicely balanced.

If you like SRPGs then Devil Survivor Overclocked is one of my favorites. Fire Emblem: Awakening is probably a better game for beginners to the genre though, but I like DSO more.

Kid Icarus Uprising is great, but try to borrow the game from somebody else first in order to see if the controls work for you. Some people unfortunately can't play the game comfortably and it's important to be aware of this. Otherwise, let's see...

-Mario Kart 7
-Pokemon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. There's an item called the Exp. Share that's basically an option. Keep it on if you aren't that experienced with the series, turn it off if you are.
-The games you planned on buying.
-Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Aside from that it comes down to taste. Hatsune Miku is good if you're into rhythm games and her kind of music, for example.

Etrian looks "meh" to me from the screenshots. Sell me on it.

Old school dungeon crawler. Welcome to the first floor: You have 20 hit points; they hit for 15.
I think selling a game based off of its difficulty is a mega lame.

Etrian Odyssey IV is excellent because of its genius level design that constantly throws new ideas at you way over the 50 hour mark. The game never really slows down with its sheer ingenuity and always finds clever ways to use the map making mechanic in fresh and interesting ways. I thought about EO IV a lot while playing Ryse, because I felt that Ryse had run out of ideas after the 10 minute mark so the game (which was like 10 hours long) felt biblical in length. EO IV never felt its runtime.

Also the game is super customizable, paced really well, map making on the bottom screen is super fun, and you can name your people after your best friends which is a great way to make me like a game.

Besides EO IV, I recommend
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Fire Emblem Awakening
Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Rune Factory 4
Persona Q

Jesus, OP, where does one even start?

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Super Mario 3D Land
Bravely Default
Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
Fire Emblem Awakening
Fantasy Life
Etrian Odyssey IV
Luigi's Mansion 2
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies

That should do for now. Enjoy one of the best handhelds to ever grace god's good earth.

Kid Icarus Uprising

This game has a very small, vocal, fanbase who should be ignored.

It's a shitty-to-control bore-fest with localization that really appeals to a certain set (the anime avatar set).

Most people find the dialogue cringe-worthy and the gameplay painful. Literally painful.

The dialogue is only figuratively painful. Thankfully.

There are so many other games more worthy of your time on the 3DS.

"Most people hate it" doesn't equate to at least a 8/10 on metacritic: it should be higher, but tasteless drive-by's like this are what bombed it

EDIT: If you look at any thread on the game, the avatar grouping has no bearing on their opinion (i.e. you'll find an equal spread regardless)

Nintendo didn't seem to think so considering they spent who knows how much money to include a 3DS stand with every copy of the game.

Thats probbley why i didn't have a problem with the controls i played it with the stand. Oh and Kid Icarus is a great game i love the characters and i want a sequel.

Fire Emblem
Mario 3D Land
Animal Crossing
Pilotwings (dirt cheap)
Starfox 64
Kingdom Hearts
A Link Between Worlds

You can safely skip Kid Icarus imo

I just bought mine and got a lot of the staples already (Mario 3D Land, Ocarina, Majora, Etrian IV, Animal Crossing) but I need people to sell me on these, because I'm on the edge in regards to buying them:

Tomodachi Life

Fantasy Life

Story of Seasons

SMTIV and the Devil Survivor games are the highlights of the system. EO4 and EOU2 are pretty good too. I'd recommend Virtue's Last Reward but since you have a Vita, get it there instead.

Etrian Odyssey IV is a great game, even if I can't articulate just quite why.

Also my phone auto corrected it to "Syrian Odyssey" which I thought was quite funny.

Get attack of the friday monsters and crimson shroud, great little games .

Also take a look at the SEGA 3D collection , real gems in there.

Kid Icarus is GOAT 3DS game.

Other necessities:

Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Good fucking luck finding this for a decent price though)
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Fire Emblem Awakening
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Kid Icarus is arguably the game of the generation, so get to that first.

And then Zelda: Link Between Worlds might arguably be the best game in that series...

I quite like the Starfox 64 3D version.

And M2's enhanced Sega 3D Classics are the God Tier definitive versions of some of the best arcade/Genesis games of all time, with Super Hang On, Outrun, Streets of Rage 2, and Gunstar Heroes being my favorites.

And that's just getting started.

The controls are only as shitty as you are, and the only way I could see it being boring is if you played on a low difficulty, in which case it's your own fault for making it boring.

Games don't usually gain an enthusiastic, vocal fanbase by being bad.

Don't listen to this guy. Kid Icarus is the best game on the system.
