Tatsumi Kimishima (former NoA CEO) is the new president of Nintendo [Updated]

Excellent short term solution, he isn't in place to replace Iwata, but to drive his vision forward for the forseeable future, I am sure there will be more restructure down the road, but in the meantime he is a great choice...

Slightly worried that he doesn't have a strong development pedigree, but we'll see how it goes. I can't help but be paranoid and think that a "numbers guy" could go in a Capcom-like direction.

I hope it's a transitory postion. Nintendo is in dire need of new blood, young people with great ideas. Like Iwata once was when he and others deviced the DS and Wii.

I cant imagine this guy (laughs) much.

Oh you know him. Can you introduce him to us ? Because there are only 3 photos of him on Google images, and two of them are official photos where he doesn't laugh, so he must be some kind of tyran.

I'm sure Miyamoto and Takeda are there to consult him. He's not steering the company alone.

Well the DS was Yamauchi's idea and Iwata had been on the board of Nintendo before becoming President, which, uh, isn't really new blood.

It's a really good choice. He has a lot of experience and it's clearly transitional to lay down the bricks Iwata was planning and give them a solid foundation for the next CEO who will be more permanent.

Fresh blood would be someone outside of the Nintendo circle and maybe even a foreigner. Anything else is just a conservative solution and Iwata was one as well.

DS was Yamauchi's idea.

Also Iwata wasn't "new" blood nor will anyone who will ultimately come to the head after the interim period ends.

Very interesting, I really hope that for the future they take a hard look at what Sony has done right for this gen.

Western experience really helps with that.

I why people on this forum are bringing up Mr. Kimishima's age here. It is possible that he can be a long-serving president at Nintendo.

Yeah, my theory at the time was Iwata was consolidating his base in case the board started getting antsy about him.
Yeah, at the time a lot of people thought he was being moved to be CEO in the unlikely event a shareholder revolt happened.

The situation turned out far more tragic, but the general thought process on his career path seemed to be correct.

He has apparently been involved with and credited with some Mario, Metroid and Wario games from the N64/Gamecube era. I'm excited to hear more about him.

Saying the DS was Yamauchi's idea is a tad oversimplifying, and Iwata was definitely new compared to virtually everyone else in senior management.

Regardless, new ideas are what this company needs, no matter where they come from.

I would imagine this

is the exact face he would make when they try explaining to him how they are going to make him in to a puppet for the next Direct

Well, even 10 years isn't a short time solution and no he is not just following Iwata's master plan for the next years. It's crazy that people really think such a thing is possible.

Nintendo has celebritized enough of their developers that the CEO doesn't need to come out and show things.

I imagine Miyamoto and Konno will debut the next hardware.

He also likes to stay behind the scenes, so don't expect him in Nintendo Direct or development interviews, or even at E3.

Perfectly fine. When Nintendo Directs happen, they can be hosted by Morimoto, their PR person or any one of their developers. The west will have Shibata and Bill Trinen.

The ball got rolling under Yamauchi and by his directive. If you don't want to count that as his thing, then I don't think anything Kimishima does will matter, either.

Damn. It just hit me again how much I miss Iwata. So much of Nintendo's personality in my mind is associated with him that It is going to take me a good long while to face the reality that he's gone. I wish Kimishima-san the best of luck in keeping Nintendo weird.

It's great that someone took the reins and all, even if temporary, but... I don't know if I'll ever like anyone else in Iwata's place. Once I started getting "into" the gaming world more than just playing them, Iwata had already been President for a year or two. So when I thought Nintendo, I thought Iwata, Reggie, and Miyamoto. The President, the E3 Guy, and the Legendary creator of Mario himself. So even though this guy has clearly been around, I've literally never heard of him.

When I found NeoGAF, I remember all of this information on the 3DS being found out. And then Iwata unveiling it, and later the threads on him taking a massive pay cut for the price drop. Iwata IS a part of Nintendo to me.

:(

Who will be the American CEO now?

Hm, that's a good point, they have not yet announced that, have they?

Kimishima might just resume his duties like Iwata did both. Someone internal (i.e. Fils-Aime) might get promoted. I don't think any big shakeup will happen. Either Kimishima will just reach a little further to cover ground he's familiar with or someone will move up.

"Debut" as in "present to the public"? Because Miyamoto stated he isn't as active with the development of NX as it was in the development of preceding consoles.

Yeah, but there aren't a lot of options there. If you're going to debut something new and possibly strange, you want some degree of familiarity to do it.

Oh? I didn't hear that. Interesting. Even so though when it comes to Nintendo, Miyamoto is a recognizable figure and him showing it off would be a pretty positive thing.
Although if it doesn't happen I understand.
Maybe Takeda too since he's in charge of the tech side while Miyamoto leads the creative side.
Yeah that's possible.
I guessing Reggie.
I can see that.

I hope Reggie and the whole treehouse team handle the directs for North America. Self deprecating jokes and corny humor is a perfect way to present video game reveals. Also, each direct should have a subtle Iwata tribute easter egg in it somewhere.

Yeah, I think he basically recognized he's not as in tune with the hardware wants of consumers as he once was and is just letting them make a platform that fits what their consumer base and third party partners want the most.

Who will be the American CEO now?
Probably a Japanese senior executive.
