Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

This game reminds me of LBP. It's a glimpse of what could be, but it's missing too many elements to really feel like a worthwhile editor. I am enjoying it. It's a good start, but Nintendo could've done so much more.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I take it you've never played Mario Paint?

Battle of the Hindenbowser

(C5FF-0000-0038-8998)

My latest, greatest creation... I must have played this level a hundred times tweaking the difficulty. This is a spiritual successor of sorts to my previous level Bowser's Heavy Metal Battalion and by extension Assault on Goomba Factory (both of these and the rest of my other stages can be found HERE. )

Basically, I wanted to recreate the feel of Revenge of the Meta Knight as best as I could. Mario infilrates the ship. Bowser gets more and more desperate... ramping up the difficulty. It all culminates into the most epic boss fight I've been able to muster up thus far. I keep my enemy pool shallow, only varying upon the enemies I've used previously. All and all it feels pretty cohesive. I did my best with the length and the difficulty, while also trying to use the most of the 500 seconds to build tension. I put the most time and thought into this stage out of all my previous incarnations, so I would greatly appreciate if you guys would play it, give me some feedback and star it if you like it.

I'll be more than happy to play and star your stages in return, simply PM me one and I'll conquer the whole lot of them.

Reuploaded with more signage. I'd really appreciate it if you guys gave it a spin!

Have a few errands to run and then I'm going to go through some levels as they're posted when I'm around. Would greatly appreciate that if I leave you feedback, you take one of my courses for a spin as well, assuming you have the time.

I tend to go through periods of working on my own level forever, then going through GAF stuff for a few days. I mostly avoid random levels and don't play 10/100 Mario challenges so my level exposure has been through you all, primarily. It's pretty fun seeing everyone's personalities in their levels!

All righty, going to bust through some random levels in recent pages. Here's my stuff if you feel kind enough to return the favor. I'd really love input on my latest level, no one has said anything so I don't know how to feel about it.

*lots of stuff*

With Splatoon and Miiverse, Nintendo has shown they can they are willing to update and introduce new features and content. For a first time around, I think the game is really damn good. Yeah, there is stuff which could be in here and maybe it's even coming as DLC. However, considering when the game was first announced, I think what has actually ended up in the initial retail release is already much more than anyone ever really anticipated.

I posted about a level I made last night, but decided I hated the end of it, so now it includes a boss challenge at the end.

Check it out!

I'd love to know what you guys think. :)

Ok, first regular level in awhile, since I'm done with making weird ones for now.

Difficulty wise, it's like a world 6.

Ok, I spent tons of time on my newest stage, so hopefully some people play it and give comments. It's called Mariovania Stage 1 and as you probably guessed, it's Castlevania 1's (NES version) stage 1. I'm pretty happy about it, had to use lots of imagination to create even somewhat similar stage using Mario-objects and enemies. This stage encourages minor searching on top of some small amount of platforming for secrets and if you're familiar with CV you probably know where to look. Hope you enjoy :)

Haven't beaten it yet, but this is a really neat level. I like the extra touches and the hidden star was fun to find. Nice work!

i've made a few tricky levels. here's a couple:

Scary House (SMW): 99BD-0000-0036-5331
shows that Ghost Houses are at their scariest when they don't make sense.

Coin Maze (NSMBU): 2E04-0000-0035-CDEC
this one is better if you try to get every coin.

Golden Darkness (SMB): E5FC-0000-0035-580C
a highlight of the darkness caused by Gold.

Undeground Fakeout (SMB): CC07-0000-001E-8B3A
this one is full of fake routes.

Stairway to Heaven (NSMBU): 57FB-0000-0035-1E1E
the road to heaven... or hell.

Quoting this because I'm super confident in my level.

Not difficult, just fun!

played your level and it felt like straight out of World 1 of a NSMB game, good work. I only had problem to get of a platfrom on the rails, because there wasn't enough space between the platform and the wall to come off.

Otherwise I had a good time and a good flow. Are there more than two secret rooms?

i was curious so i checked out pizza co and why it was 0%......dude i just finished it but it is ridiculously hard and long.

the average person who looks at a name like pizza co. is not gonna expect something like that. unless you were trolling with that name.

its hard enough getting past the first part, but then having 2 bosses????

I thought it'd be too easy when making it. I guess it's easier when you know what's coming. It only has a few dry bones, bomb ombs, thwomps, and king koopas.

It's not a bad game. I don't regret my full-price purchase, just like I didn't regret buying LBP on day one. But it's missing a lot of little options that could've provided the game with significantly more variety. Stuff like changing the color of pipes, sloped ground, a few more powerups, more backgrounds, and so forth.

I don't believe Nintendo announced plans for DLC, did they? I certainly hope DLC is on the way, but we'll have to wait and see. DLC in Mario Kart 8 is the highest-quality and best-valued DLC of the entire generation so far (IMO), so I know they can pull it off. They just have to.... do it.

Some of the stuff you're complaining about not being Mario enough (the loading guys and some sound effects) are from Mario Paint.
Ah, gotcha. I didn't realize that. It still annoys me, for what it's worth, but that's a neat nod to people who played Mario Paint I suppose.

Played some GAF levels today while going down the list. Some creative designs.

Got stuck on Tunnel of Imminent Peril, so hard :(.

Rebel Leader

THE POWER OF BUTTERSCOTCH BOTTOMS
Crazy thing is that I'm now at 2 medals and the main star provider for me are my 2 trollish levels...

Love the miiverse reactions though.

I have none :(

Thought My first level was a mess around, and I just uploaded my second level that had more thought into it

- Fly Swatter minigame is a waste of time and is annoying. Yet another example (like the disco lights and sound effects) of Nintendo spending time on something that doesn't belong in this game. Were they trying to be funny? Creative? This doesn't belong in the game and only serves to interrupt my sessions.

You never played Mario Paint, I take it

Very first level I've made. Only the basic items. Several ways to complete. I need to get some 1up mushrooms to incentivize the harder paths

So far, an additional costume has been announced (Nekki the Fox), and Takashi Tezuka has hinted at a forthcoming music editor. It seems safe to assume that there is a plan for expansion content.

I wish the Wii U had a PS4 like share system that allows us to record gameplay and put it on youtube. I don't have time to play all these levels, but I want to see them :(

I think some of it may be that when you comment on a level it automatically stars it, which I think is stupid. Should be able to just leave general comments and stuff haha. (or negative ratings!)

Yeah this bothers me, I want to leave constructive criticism of why I didn't like it, and not give a star

I believe you can if you comment from the comment button in the played courses section of your profile.

If you want to leave a comment without giving a star, don't use the button when you beat the level and instead find it in the list of played levels. There you can comment and it won't star it.

So how is this for an easter egg?:
Sorry Mega Mario I need not have purchased you
A kind miiverse comment tells me it is hold down and mash A+B. I assuming during level loading (as that is when I triggered it).

Lol 100-Mario Expert Challenge is a joke. It's ALL troll levels. Horrible level design.
I think the game filters based on completion rate (it could go on other factors too) so an expert level is one with really low completion rate. In other words it is the hell that troll levels go to die in. I've not done much in that mode to verify though.

A perfect example of design stupidity in this game. Especially when the manual is all leave useful feedback even if it is negative (but be like "the x section was a bit long" or "add some platforms to y section" rather than "this game stinks"
Unless it is an Earthbound level of course[/spoier]) I wopnder how many bad levels have gotten stars from this.

In "Old School Super Mario (1/4)", I didn't want to make a trap jump, in fact, I changed the platforms + coins emplacements many times to avoid it. I haven't unlocked much tools back then, if I could have, I've had made cloud blocks. When I tested it before publication I never ran into the blocks, but retesting it (and watching player death data), I see it's still possible to be trolled, and it's unacceptable.
For the koopa alignment, the game is really irritating when it comes to enemies appearing. Sometimes enemies just aren't there when you go to an area, or they're not in synch. I understand it depends on user behaviour since enemies "appear" when you get close enough, but I lost a lot in online stages because Piranha Plants take ages to appear (I've been careful to announce them in my level to avoid this). Anyway, I see that section is not in line with the rest thanks to your feedback, and thanks to death data.

I solved those problems, the level has been updated:

Super%2BMario%2BMaker%2BStage%2B%2528niveau%2Bou%2Blevel%2529%2BOld%2BSchool%2BSuper%2BMario%2B%25281%2Bof%2B4%2529.png

As for "y cant metroid shoot?"... obviously people don't enjoy dealing with Bloopers the way I do. I didn't have a problem with this section because I took the time to carefully lure them to the higher platforms to the left, but I broke a Super Mario rule: always giving the player different ways to complete a level - people shouldn't have to follow a specific strategy. Since this level stands a lot on atmosphere, I edited the difficulty (while still being challenging) for it to be more "direct": I removed some repetition and added platforms so it's quicker and easier to deal with enemies.

Updated, flows much better now:

Super%2BMario%2BMaker%2BStage%2B%2528niveau%2Bou%2Blevel%2529%2By%2Bcant%2Bmetroid%2Bshoot%2B-%2BTourian.png

As for "?" mushroom in blocks, though, it's intentional: I wanted to make clear from the start that all blocks contain power suits, like a number of lives. I made it even clearer (and added some extra "energy tanks") in my update.

Anyway, your feedback has been extremely valuable, thank you.

Nope, I don't even own a smartphone :) it's a model I made in Photoshop.

I really like NSMB games (mostly the non DS ones), but NSMB on SMM is pretty terrible. Choppy enemy animation (they're 2D models I guess), horrible filling patterns (large ground areas in the underground settings look terrible), and horizontal pipes next to the ground in the plain settings not even entering the ground - you can see the sky between the ground and the pipe. It all looks so botched up.

Indeed, thank God for the skipping option.

They're all in the 10 Mario Challenge, and after playing them you can load them in the editor. They're really not that good or interesting, they're concepts more than levels.

I tried like 20 times, I just can't get through your main blooper hallway. I'd trade all those samus suits for 1 fire flower. Mario just isn't as agile or shooty as Samus. Though Im not real patient which may be my issue.

Okay, i've finally done a course i'm kinda proud of, using Robin's Light/Dark Motif:

See if you can find the 10 (or 11 if you include coins) 1-Up Mushrooms also.

Opinions will be great. I will need them for the 9 Sequels I have in the Pipeline.

Well, with my gamepad being out for repairs I obviously have little to share (apparently I can't even start the dang game without the pad, bah). That's why I'd like to post a pretty neat stage my friend made instead:

Boo buddy marathon
ABBF-0000-0015-A688

Super Mario Maker lacks the option of having a buttload of Boos roam around the ceiling and whatnot, but this stage gets pretty close to having the same feeling. Also it has a SMW style bonus room and those are always cool.

He has a couple more on his profile. Lotta DKC inspired stages. None too hard with lots of bonus rooms. Dude sure loves his bonus rooms.

Also the Megaman 4 - Cossack 3 stage remake is totally my doing :p
For whatever reason each time another giant boo buddy wheel dropped in I just had the biggest grin.
Maybe it's because just the other day I was wishing Boohemoth from NSMB2 was in more games and this is close enough.

I'd really like to get some feedback about this level I just published:

The Cube: 9 Rooms, 9 Challenges

(36A3-0000-0038-EC1B)

WpLv3OC.jpg

It's loosely inspired by the movie The Cube, and features nine 1-screen rooms arranged in a 3x3 square with different traps inside.
I wanted to make a puzzley level with small, self-contained rooms, and experiment with backtracking and permanent changes to the environment. Which proved itself to be quite the challenge.

Not all rooms are mandatory to complete, some lead to the three 1up mushrooms hidden around, and one features an optional puzzle whose completion can make your life a bit easier later on.
(I have no idea what that movie is), it was a fun stage though with a neat concept. Found the 1 up in the wiggler room.

Just created a course and I'm kinda happy with it. It even has several secrets!

Spooky House of Thwomps
C06F-0000-0039-0BE3

I was just seeing how many things I could do with the concept of using Thwomps to clear your path.

And another -

Super Time Travel Bros
8CC6-0000-0025-93B0

Travel through time to a post-apocalyptic Mushroom Kingdom and back again to clear this course

Neither of my courses are super hard in my opinion. I'd rate them medium.
MrBadger is a man who makes good use of sublevels.

I've played many good courses today, great going GAF.

So how is this for an easter egg?:

Sorry Mega Mario I need not have purchased you

Yeah. It's a great CRT filter. I wish I didn't have to toggle it for every level though..

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. :)

You had trouble getting off the platform? Whatcha mean by that?

And, no there's only two secret rooms.

in the middle of the level, where the ground is hold by the roots. The last moving platform has an ?-Block underneath it, in the bottom right corner. I couldn't just run from the platform to the block, had to wait until it moved down enough. No major flaw, but my mostly great flow in your level was interrupted by just standing and waiting there. If there was a tile of space I could have just ran down to use the ?-block.

Ok, then I found both alone from my instinct
the pipe to the second secret room is the only one even tried to go down
, so I have to complement this design too. I also like the little trolling when
exiting the second secret room and you don't grab the star

Played it. It was alright.

It just sort of felt like a mishmash of things though. I wish there was a little more structure to it.

yea it is a mish mash. like i said im still unlocking things :(

just wanna test things out and make a "real" or "complete" level when everything unlocks. just wanna get some experience before i dive in though :)

Okay so after my Arwing level, I decided to revise my Dk's Jungle Climb level and have finished Dk's Jungle Climb 2.0. I put a lot of thought into how to activate ? blocks. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Edit: Should mention this course is on the easier side of things (as all of my courses are after horrible completion %'s on my first few levels)

So i really liked the idea of the spin jump in SMW but was disappointed that i didn't use it too much in my previous level, this should make up for it

3702b3fcb25dc6f39ae705c176a63e8f.png

Concept is simple and the beginning is a nice tutorial area to understand and mess up a bit on the spin jump, would appreciate feedback

My newest creation. Went with the SMB3 Haunted Mansion style. I'd say it's pretty similar to what you would find in a regular Mario game with a few twists. It's also pretty fair difficulty wise.

WVW69iYyzace2mp2LG

Let me know what you think!

Not bad. I had to replay because I accidentally kicked the P switch at the end into the abyss and although I reran through the course, it didn't respawn.

I liked the spinning platforms iwth the ghost coming after you. Good mechanic

Hell simulation

Worked 8 hours on this, made it with love and passion, I'm very proud of my work, it's not easy but it's not impossibly hard, I hope you guys enjoy, any feed back will be greatly appriciated.

So I've been watching a lot of gameplay of user generated levels, are there any Mario levels?
I see a ton of people making these metroid style levels, or these crazy complex maze like levels, or these levels that are just designed to be super tough, but none of them look (in the level design) or play like a Mario level. Is this mostly what is out there? I mean someone of it looks kind of cool, but I thought people would use this game to make great Mario levels not just, lets make the craziest thing I can think of that thats almost impossible to beat!
