Star Fox Zero Delayed to Q1 2016

Good, I'll be busy with other games and systems anyway. The game looked very undercooked last time they showed it. Still, it's kinda sad that they still seem tonhave trouble with development and doesn't exactly bode well for NX.

Certainly the game needs a ton of work, that much was clear. But I don't know if a single quarter delay will make a huge difference. I certainly hope so. The game in its present form looks quite poor visually and really dull/boring.

I would love to see a bunch of Wii U games on NX. Wii U has some great games that people need the chance to play.
Yeah, especially since ones like Splatoon and Smash are still getting regular support. I guess NX would still be a year away and a years a long time but still.

That's really devastating to go from last year having Zelda and Star Fox being holiday titles, to none. But it's okay you have have Mario and Yoshi again.

(Yeah and Xenoblade and Fatal Frame localizations bah)

Yoshi is also many months old and barely a late localization in the US (and not that great anyway, not even nearly as creative as Epic Yarn).

A Message from Mr. Miyamoto Regarding Star Fox Zero
I made a big decision last week.
We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes. While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.
To the people looking forward to the launch of the game this holiday season, I am very sorry.
Star Fox Zero is going to bring new game play and experiences that take it far beyond the framework established by Star Fox 64. All the members of the development team are doing our best so that the final product will not betray your expectations. And the game will not be delayed for a very long time – we’re aiming to launch the game in Q1 2016. Please stay tuned for further announcements.
No problem Shigsy.

I sort of doubt it'll be just a quarter now. I feel like Wii U's 2016 will now look something more like this.

Mar- Mario & Sonic
May- Pokkén
Aug- Pikmin 4
Sep- Star Fox
Oct- Performa
Nov- Zelda
Dec- Mario Golf

I agree but I also would've said the same about Star Fox. It felt like an awkward fill in itself, probably because it was (for Zelda).

Their more mainstream candidate is probably Animal Crossing amiibo Festival but that would alienate core gamers. I guess there's Mario Tennis too which sort of skirts the line with casual/core but doesn't really have the gravitas for the big Nov slot. IDK, Nintendo kinda fucked themselves here.

They should have just made a real Animal Crossing game instead of that stupid board game. That would have done really well.

I think it'll probably end up being an early summer release (May or June). Why delay of game for only a few months, not really much development would be done in that time, when you factor in required QA.

Interesting delay, maybe they're responding to the lackluster previews.

So Mario Maker is the big holiday game then?

My first thought when I saw the delay:
Nintendo is pulling some TP type stuff again...
But the delay doesn't seem long enough for it to be because they're trying to bring it to NX as well as leave it on WiiU.

So.... like I said. 6 is generous. We don't even know if Pikmin 4 is for Wii U, and Zelda may not be exclusive as well. Mario & Sonic may have its fans, but for most its not worth mentioning. Pokken is niche. Star Fox looks very underwhelming. Xenoblade I'm not sure on yet but it's getting mixed reviews.

The fact that we're even talking about whether it's 5, 6 or 7 really says it all though. Whether it's 5 or 10, it's embarrassing. As a Nintendo fan, you're doing yourself a disservice if you try to defend that line up. You deserve better than that for your investment into their hardware.

I think Nintendo is doing fine as a publisher. I don't think Sony or Microsoft has many more games announced for this year or next than Nintendo does, but they have much more third party support which helps smooth out delays and gaps in release schedule that they all suffer from.

Also, Pokken is not niche. It is a fighting game, but it's also pokemon. That is by no means niche.

I love the art for this game, but everything else looks pretty bad to me. I'd love to see a new take on Starfox.
Nintendo has tried a new take on the series with Adventures, Assault and Command. Nintendo finally tries to bring it back to something closer to 64 and people start bitching they want something different, it's a lose lose situation no matter what they do.

I've been extremely critical of WiiU for multiple reasons, but in all fairness Nintendo did the best they could do in terms of software output, considering they had to support the thing basically by themselves.

Of course, as I said, they shouldn't have been caught by surprise by the hurdles of the HD development, but coming 2012-13 and realizing they were clearly unprepared, what else could they have done other than releasing their usual stack of polished, high quality games?

It's probably a better lineup than 2010. The only noteworthy titles we got then was DKCR and a Layton game.
This year there is Xenoblade X, Triforce Heroes, Project Zero, Mario Tennis and that Chibi Robo game.

Who'd care about the holiday lineup only when Wii 2010 overall looked like this: Monster Hunter Tri, Mario Galaxy 2, No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Goldeneye, Epic Mickey (sold a ton), Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sonic Colours, Sin & Punishment 2, NBA Jam, Silent Hill, Kirbys Epic Yarn.

That's better than the entire WiiU library lol, let alone this year with nothing except ,,but Splatoon'' for 9 months until Mario Maker came out and then a bunch of late localisations.

That's exactly how it would be spaced out, but I have a hard time believing Nintendo would release 3 huge internal products (Star Fox, Pikmin, Zelda) on the second-half of 2016. Like how active is the market going to be?

Plus NX will be coming out. Star Fox by March, Pikmin 4 by August, cross gen Zelda in November.

THANK YOU JEEZUS!!

Well it's Nintendo's job to make sure NX sells more than Wii U.

Right, but Wii U games aren't the answer.

Besides, I could care less if those who passed on Wii U get to play the games they missed. I hope they remain Wii U exclusive long after the console's dead so I can sell them for big bucks.

Releasing Stgr Fox wouldn't have changed that.

True. Nothing could have moved WiiUs at this point (not to mention some game in a B-series with bad reception until now) and the few remaining fans of the console will defend anything, so there really was no reason to put more efficiency into developing Starfox. They are certainly focusing on mobile and NX right now.

Super Mario Maker has bigger chances of moving WiiUs, but I don't know how much it has sold.

But yeah, I saw this coming from a mile away. Anyone who didn't was lying to themselves.

The biggest game there is Yoshi's Wooly World and many people including myself already have it. My Wii U's gonna get pretty dusty in the coming months

That may well be the worst Oct-December lineup I've ever seen a console have.

They really need to focus on pimping out any possible DLC expansions for Smash Bros. and Mario Maker these holidays, if only to tide over the hardcore audience. That's an incredibly depressing line-up, and since I'm hesitating on Xenoblade X due to the mixed Japanese reception there literally isn't any other Wii U title left this year.

Holy shit.

Wiiu third party support is so bad that it seems like a missed opportunity... Surely a medium sized third party release could sell decently with such little competition.. Wow

A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.

Take your god damn time and make it amazing.

If only it were that simple....

Platforms need games to maintain relevance. Telling the dev to take more time is nice and all, but what will the parents buy this Christmas and what will the kids play?

8 new tracks and characters for Mario Kart 8 would help ease the pain, Nintendo.
