Yeah, I know you can go in both ways. I wish there was a way to stop that. Did you find anything interesting doing that backwards? lol

Kinda yeah. Some surprises.

I thought it was worthwhile.

I think I'm going to play it again because I forgot to give you a star.

You can stop that by putting the pipe from the ceiling or no support sideways.

Also what I meant earlier is a hidden 1-up block in the middle of the bridge.

edit: Starred.

I didn't find any secret weapon, but really enjoyed the level. Good job.

Thanks I only put stars as the secret weapons so you can stay as Link, its one in the first part of the dungeon and its one for the Bower fight.

The other secret is 1ups

ugh...block limits suck. I'm trying to make a Metroidy level and I guess I'm gonna have to scale it and back and/or use ugly workarounds. :\

Once I get Zero Suit Samus or Samus i'm gonna try to do a Metroid level also, I figure blocks will be an issue

I think this is the best level I've made yet. The way the level is physically structured, it doesn't even feel much like a Mario game, honestly it reminds me of old Sega platformers like Alex Kidd. :p I love the way the overall look turned out, and it's capped off by the best musical segment I've done.

Please try it and let me know what you think!

Gawd damn yo. Good level but one mistske and yoshi and mario are ashes :p

Haha, in a few parts that's true. I think that it's probably just too long.
edit: If I had checkpoints I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. So I'll mostly just fix up the level as is, in case they add Checkpoints.

Titled "My Little Yoshi: Friendship is Tragic"

I think most would agree that it's a fair level, but it's fairly long. I don't troll you though, and the challenges are all on the easy-medium side if you're proficient with Mario.

Had fun with this one.

Goddammit Sporky, your levels are always so nice to look at, clever in design, feel like legit mario levels and you even give us music in them.

Why are you so goooood to us?~

Been going through and playing gaffer stages, find some really fun stuff. I'll keep trying stuff. If you have a course in particular you want feedback on, please respond. I'd also ask you try some of mine in return. I have pictures of these courses on my tumblr I made for Mario courses.

I have eight stages currently available and could use some feedback. I am doing them in a world format.

1-1 Use the Parakoopas 2.0 (3EC2-0000-0045-502F)
Use the Parakoopas to bounce your way across some gaps. It has two secret bonus rooms.

1-2 Piranha Plant Pop 2.0 (6400-0000-0045-50BC)
Avoid the piranha pants that pop out of the pipes. Keep an eye out for two bonus rooms.

1-3 A little help from Yoshi (A6C7-0000-0045-5166)
P-Switches and Yoshi! Yoshi will give you a boost, and he’ll catch up with you later on in the level. What a helpful dinosaur!

1-4 Backsy Forthsy Mansion 2.0 (82C0-0000-0045-5332)
Back and forth in a haunted mansion that puts you just out of reach of places you’ve been prior. Quite a challenging stage! Can you find the hidden door that leads to the back side of the goal?

2-1 Acrobatic Awareness (1323-0000-004B-E75B)
This stage features no enemies beyond a spawn pipe for Koopa Troopas. This map is all about mastering Mario’s moves and physics. It’s much harder than you’d think.

2-2 Mushroom Heights (4C2F-0000-004B-EB44)
I hope you’ve mastered vertical jumps and kicking around Koopa Shells. Tons of hidden lives can be found on this stage.

2-3 Bullet Bill’s Wild Ride (6B3E-0000-004B-F095)
Watch out for swarms of Bullet Bills as you make your way to the goal. Watch for some hidden paths.

2-4 That Crushing Feeling (35E4-0000-004C-01BF)
Time your traversal through this crushing cavern, and be prepared for the crushing depths of the deep sea. Definitely the hardest stage in world two.

I played Bullet Bills Wild Ride and Crushing Feeling. I like Crushing Feeling. I liked the way you put the blocks on thr rails. It was a solid difficulty. The layout could use some work for a more cohesive feel. And the big Thwomp by the stalk, that was a lil bullshit. It just comes and kills you no warning. By by off screen things is always annoying.

Bullet Bills Wild Ride I wasn't too up on. I think the bills riding the track and being the platforms was too much. The sub area was the better part. Havinh a bunch of bullet bills just coming at you can be frustrating I find. This may just be my own person taste though

Once I get Zero Suit Samus or Samus i'm gonna try to do a Metroid level also, I figure blocks will be an issue

I'm doing mine NSMB style and just using some of the workarounds like filling solid wall interiors with those red/green crystal platforms (I don't really use them in my level design anyway) and also using pipes for obstructions where they don't seem too bad. And changing the floor at the bottom of the map to generally only be one block thick. Hoping this stuff frees up enough blocks to let finish the level without scaling back too much...I really like how it's been turning out otherwise.

Haha, in a few parts that's true. I think that it's probably just too long.

Its pretty fair. Except the bob ombs. That part was bulshit the first time :p

Ite long mainly because the first real challenge is duck and jump and that is a third into the course. I understand you have to teach the player but for people who played a lot of mario it is redundant.

Hopefully nintendo adds checkpoints.

I enjoyed the shortcut with the raccoon suit in your stage, and the flying stars at the end were a really neat treat. I was worried a gauntlet was ahead as the stars started flying in, but it turned out to be the goal, I almost wonder if there is a missed opportunity there.

I am thinking of some changes in regard to both of those stages as I feel the vine trivialized the crushers too much. I also may tweak the pathing, you have a point about the cohesiveness. It may be too snakey.

As far as the Bullet Bill course goes, I may tone down the number of Bill cannons as moving platforms, but I think I do want them to make up part of the last third of the stage. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes it even has the hidden blocks!

You could have used the undergrond theme for the pipes though.

Anyway, I liked it.

I would have used the underground theme for the pipes, but the level was too long to fit in the main area so half the level would have been in the wrong theme.

Aww. I loved it though.

I expected a few people to remake the Super Mario Land 1 levels as they fit well with this type of editor.

Cool maze, I like the class design where you fall down a path and hit invisible blocks to block off/create another path. I think you need to give more room with Mario to breath though, felt like I was too restricted.

Other level; I admit, I lost patience with this one and had to move on. I really like the concept of unlocking stuff with the Koopa shell destroying blocks, but it takes too long and kills the pacing at the beginning and middle/end of the level. Also the Koopa got stuck on the trampoline for some reason and I had to restart. It kind of makes the level drag on restarts. The long hallway is a bit unfair; you set the play up to go sprinting through that thing with Yoshi and then just throw a bunch of stuff at the player, they’re almost guaranteed to fall in the lava or lose Yoshi the first time. Same thing goes with the bullet bill across the lava with the other side not visible. The latter half of the level just felt kind of unstructured and slow. Good use of Thomps early on though.

Overall really neat concepts! But maybe try to put yourself into the player’s shoes more often when in the editor, think about space and what they see, and help guide them with coins or less branching paths.

Great feedback, thank you for taking the time to play and to provide a detailed feedback. I will definitely keep that in mind for my next courses, or just updating the current ones. You have any courses that you have created so I could give them a go?

Really, really strong stuff. How you guys think up settings like this, I'll never know. I particularly liked the starman room -- good spot for a secret. Way to make the player's exploration pay off!

The Internet will love this for the musical interlude but those of us with taste will adore this for the beautiful level it is. Starred, saved, and highly recommended.

After watching Shiba playtest my level, I realized it wasn't being clear enough with the goals of the puzzles, and some of the action elements were making certain parts too backtracky. So the Dry Bones are gone. Also, one of the Hammer Bros. It's hard to think about puzzles when hammers are being chucked down at you.

(Plus, arrows!)

Here's the updated version.

Level Name: Gravity Flip Ghost House!
ID: A5EE-0000-004E-43C8
Features: A ghost house with a gravity flip mechanic! Every time you enter a pipe, the whole level flips upside down. This leads to some rather devious Super Mario World puzzles, and includes 3 separate exits. See if you can find the super secret exit and score the five 1-Ups at the end!

8CYhwcW.png

Would any GAFfers with some free time be so kind to test it out?

Thanks for the star.

I'm starring every level I play here on GAF since the 100 Mario challenge is filled with a lot of dumb levels at all difficulties. Occasionally there's a good one but most of them feel like copy pasta drag a bunch of shit on the game and call it a day. There's also the passive aggressive amiibo stealth brag with "check out my amiibo collection" and "don't move" levels. The worst is when people build levels hide blocks in the middle of jumps or put one block ledges for the entire stage and calling that fun.

Nice touch with putting the Bom-omb's on the Koopa's to simulate their explosion effect. With my kick of designing arcade shooters, I now want to recreate the airplane sequences from that Mario game.

Speaking of which, after playing several levels that other users have made, I wanted to take a stab at creating an Shoot Em' Up-style game with the Mario Maker engine. Tell me what you guys think: 7B85-0000-004E-4363

I spent days making a fucking level. Another brand new level! As the community owner of AmiiboGAF, I wanted to make an actual level based on hunting amiibo without it being one of those empty levels that literally has every amiibo costume in ? Blocks and a Goal Pole.

Mario receives a frantic phone call (probably from Luigi) that new amiibo are in stock at the local Mushroom Mall! Leap through traffic, race through stores, and trample other collectors in line for a shot at brand new amiibo! Will Mario make it to the Game Shop before they sell out?

Alright, I believe this is the last of them:
You Say Hello, and I Say Goodsky : 1AAB-0000-0049-7FAA

If anyone else has any comments, thoughts, etc on the stage I would love to hear it.
Sweet, air ship theme. Main problem I see with this level is vision. Half the level you can’t see anything but the giant orange boxes so you can’t tell where to drop or if you even need to, and because of the wavering of the screen on the ship theme, I couldn’t even see the ground when I did actually find where I was supposed to drop. I did like the door and the vines at the start of the section that could get you back, you could’ve maybe just used vines scattered along the whole way to help give the player bearings. Interesting level though, and I like the epic, wide feel to it. And yes, I had fun.

Here you go
Get the Choppa!.....hats: I think this is the first level I’ve played that takes full advantage of the propeller hat, good job. Overall I quite liked the level but the jumps are a little too tight, especially the final one in the big arc. I don’t think they need to be fully out of spikes either. Perfect length though, and I didn’t get frustrated even though it took me quite a few trys.

Everybody DO the MARIO!!!!!: This one cracked me up. I don’t know how shoving big Mario into a one-block space with a clusterfuck of enemies and stars worked, but it did.

Don’t Forget to Twist!: Nice short level with good use of the NSBMU mechanics, pretty good for a first level.
Would absolutely love feedback!

Couldn’t get too far into this one, sorry mate. I died a lot and only made it 1/3 or ¼ of the way. There’s just too many enemies on screen, and the challenge feels like it’s coming from navigating around a bunch of giant hitbox enemies while I hope to not get hit by a stray chainchomp swipe or a fireball. I like the theme, aesthetic, and trick doors though!

Ghost House
(BD90-0000-004A-D937)

Enjoy and please let me know what you think.
Very solid level! Spent a few lives making sure I’d checked out all the paths. Only real criticism I can think of is tightening up a few places; if it’s not intentional, you don’t need a P-Block to get into the door that’s blocked off. You can just twirl jump off on top of it. Maybe move the dry bones back a bit, was pretty much guaranteed to run into that little dude. Oh yeah, and that stupid invisible block on the left wall killed me after I got the 1-up! haha. Great job, I’ll have to check out your other levels.

Funny little level. Nice job!

Thank you all for letting me play your levels, I did my best. Hopefully my feedback was even a smidgen helpful, if not don't worry about it. If you quoted me earlier and I didn't get to you, let me know.

I just picked this game up, I'd say I'm of pretty decent Mario skill. I just...don't know where to start. lol So many wonderful looking levels on here, it's a case of having too much of a good thing where I'm just playing Random levels.

Awesome. I'll check it out when you start.

Try out the new stage I posted. I'd love to see how it plays for another person. It's got a lot of Super Mario World puzzles in it. I think the puzzles are pretty standard and there aren't too many enemies, the gimmick just makes it different.
