Halo 5 A Hero Falls TV Commercial

I don't think a Spartan II will ever be disposable.

And no where in my post did I say that Spartan-IIs were. There are no "new" Spartan-IIs and as such it should stand to reason that when I talk of the "new Spartan corps" I am not referring to what is effectively four very unique, very special people, but instead to the programs of the Spartan-III and IV that now make up the Spartan corps.

He himself isn't, I'm not sure where you read that from what I wrote. I was speaking of the new Spartans and that the myth of "Never Die" has lost its meaning with the loss of the original program of Spartan-IIs. (Also Chief has nothing do with the Elites aside from befriending some of them, the actual alliance there and the, now, brooding war behind the scenes is the doing of the UNSC and a common enemy in the Flood and Prophets.)

In this case, as per this commercial, its propaganda to remove Chief from the public mindset by martyring him. He's dead and that gives them recourse to claim any other Chief to be an impostor to the dead hero who now, seemingly, opposes or stands against the goals of the UNSC.

But why would the UNSC want to do that? I certainly believe it is propoganda, as this would probably be the stupidest way it all could have ended. Perhaps this is the ending of Halo 5? Damn, I'll be pissed if that's the case, as we'll have to wait for Halo 6 to find out what happened. Would be worse than the Halo 2 ending!

Damn I liked it. Get to see more of the world in the Halo timeline. People know about the chief which I didn't know I got to see the kid with the Spartan toy.

Tough crowd I guess.

Because he probably stands against the attempts at instigating a civil war between the Elites? Or he found something that puts the UNSC in a bad light? We don't know but he goes from being on mission and allied with the UNSC to obviously not being either of those things.

Seriously, a little building is the best they got for the reason for his death? Couldn't show some footage of some starship fleet exploding or some shit? I mean at least put a little effort into this cover up ONI. Plz

MC goes out like a chump and gets crushed by a building after saving the entire galaxy?

Well what about locke. Is he part of the UNSC? I have no idea, as I never played Halo 3: ODST.

That's the problem I have with it. The ad works well if they show chief up against a guardian or the didact (I'm assuming he's in the game). Showing him crushed in some rubble by a mysterious city explosion is lame.

I honestly the Spartan IVS aren't disposable, they are the military's best. The only reason III 's were disposable was because of the war. Even still spartans lives must be well spent never wasted.

This makes me very nervous, because I actually do suspect the Master Chief ends up dying this game, and that's a big surprise that's awaiting us all when all is said and done.

I'm guessing he wants to get Cortana back somehow and Halsey is his only route to that. Since she's a persona non grata for ONI, scapegoat for the Spartan program probably - I don't keep up with all the out of game stuff, he'll have to break the rules to get her to help and just like an 80's teen movie he's BREAKING ALL THE RULES.

Curious to see how this plays with the masses.. As clearly some here don't like it, but after following Hunt the Truth last year and now.. This is perfect to me.

Hopefully it piques the interest of the mass market to be into Halo again.

Isn't this really just to pique the interest of casual gamers that have only sorta-kinda followed the story of Chief?

I could imagine people who only play the campaigns once or twice (and never followed the novels, comics, Hunt The Truth, etc...) being curious about Halo 5 (hell, this may be the first time those ultra casuals even heard that Halo 5 is coming out soon) after randomly seeing this on TV.

That being said, as a Halo fan, this was disappointing. But I feel as if this was aimed at the broader audience, not us.

And this...

Smells like ONI PR.

...makes it more interesting.

There are those of us who have hunted the truth and know that this is just bullshit ONI PR and then there are the masses that have no clue what's really going on behind the scenes. Kinda breaking the fourth wall in a way? IDK....

But, disappointing for me. Let's hope something 343 releases can beat that live action ODST trailer (still the best).

The woman in the diner covered her mouth before any meaningful announcement was made. Why was she so in shock from just being told what the date and time was?

Well, she's allied with zealot Elites on the other side of the conflict so Chief is effectively defecting from the UNSC if that is his goal. No need for 80's teen movie cliches for that, lol.

That said, I'd rather Cortana remain dead. It'd be nice for the stakes to be, you know, worth something as named relevant characters actually die from time to time.

If they attack on Meridian was known, having official from the UNSC in a solemn tone bring his name up could make you think the worst. I don't know

Also a minor continuity error. From the backview, she's covering her mouth. Then the camera cuts to her holding her collar a second later.

I don't see how "aimed at the broader audience" would make it less disappointing or a better commercial. Halo had some amazing trailers in the past, especially tantalising for the broader audience.

Its actually not bad if you consider the crowd they are wanting to reach.
...The people that may have played Halo, but left out after 2, or 3

This will get them curious, and then when they go to look up Halo 5, there will be plenty of coverage for them to read from this past weekend.

I can see why some hard core fans are disappointed though, and I do think it could have been better executed, but overall not bad I would say.

If you have seen the Chief/Locke ads, and then watch this one, it's pretty clear the Chief comes out victorious in that fight. But he's not the same at this point. Something has happened. The UNSC could never admit to the public what he did, so they instead say he has died in a propaganda piece.

I expected it to be awful by peoples comments, but it wasn't bad at all. However, it needed a ending with a little more oomph. MC looking like an action figure in rubble didn't quite do it, maybe if it teased something 'bigger' or mysterious afterwards.

I'm certain there will be an extended cut.
