Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 5 won`t even run without the "patch".

So it's a demo with a required update to get the full game?

Mod needs to change title to "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is a Demo without Day One Patch"

Shouldn't this be impossible?

The game needs to be able to be finished for it to be approved by Sony/MS for manufacturing, no?

How could either of them sign off on something like this?

Target audience for this game:
"My kid liked this game seven years ago right?"

Hopefully no one with an ounce of savvy picks this up.

Not sure that is so, MCC shipped without multiplayer right? Without an update all you got was the campaigns.

Yes. Multiplayer will require online and servers anyway. It's not great for everyone, but you could at least play the entire offline campaign.

...But you're going to connect online to play multiplayer anyways.

Yes, but I was addressing games having shipped incomplete before. The entirety of the multiplayer suit was absent from the retail discs.

It's for sure a better situation than here, I just don't think it uncommon now to patch in lots of content day 1. This game in particular had a complete change in art style only a few months back, hence my original comment. This was rushed out the door without even getting to sit down.

After seeing that short video from the other thread showing the game's current state post patch, I can see why that is.

It doesn't need to be 'finished' since that's a subjective term, but it does have to not crash the system and not cause weird issues with the PSN/Xbox Live infrastructure. Apparently the 'game' is at least cobbled together enough to meet that low bar.

If the 'tutorial/course creator' rumor is true, then I consider that to be downright criminal. Plenty of people don't even have their consoles connected to the Internet - what the hell are they supposed to do?

Did people really want this game? Was there enough demand found by the people in charge of deciding whether or not to make a new Tony Hawk? How did this game even come about, and in this state no less. The fact that the game came out in any form astounds me.

I'm someone with terrible Internet, and while I'd never waste a penny on this garbage, I can't believe any game could ship in this condition.

This is worse than most Bethesda games launch because while they may be buggy,at least they work beyond a tutorial.

This just further proves how little they care about this IP and how much of a cash grab this shovelware piece of garbage is.

It's sad that we have to rely on indies to make a good skating game.

And the game couldn't be delayed 3 weeks to ensure the disc has the whole game because....?

Because marketing has more power over when the game goes on sale than the actual game being complete.

Welcome to the worst generation.

This is pretty depressing. But honestly, I would've been fine with the series ending there, rather than dragging its corpse around on parade with this kind of release. All the other titles are still playable, and surprisingly enough, still enjoyable.

What a mess.

Tons of people wanted THPS 5, not this shovelware garbage.

Just because you don't like skating games doesn't mean there's no demand.

And just because they kicked out a piece of shit doesn't mean people don't want a new THPS game, they want a GOOD THPS game.

Beyond the Tutorial and/or building mode?

The plot thickens.

Yeah I'm playing the first level (The Berrics) & I'm working towards unlocking the second level.

When I started it up, the Activision & Robomoto logos were animating at like 1 frame per second lol.

They said they didn't have enough time to make a demo, twist is it's been there the entire time.

Cue M Night Shyamalan...

But this is more of a complaint that someone without an internet connection literally can't play the game.

For online multiplayer games, it's an internet connection is required anyway. An update would be a mere inconvenience.

This is true. They need to hand 6 off to someone new and try to put this piece of shit behind them.

This generation has presented some really odd patch situations, with seemingly every game needing a day 1 patch. I know it existed last gen but it now feels like it's every title.

Have you been seeing glitches like the ones that Eurogamer were running into? Not that I'd ever consider buying this pile of shit, but I'm curious to see how widespread/extensive the issues are.

Honestly, there shouldn't be a 6 - they should just give the franchise up. Activision has dragged THPS through the mud for so long that it's lost nearly all of the luster that it had back in the THPS 2/3/4 days.

Sony and MS deserve some blame for even allowing a game to be released on disc with just the tutorial. That's some bullsheet.

To be honest not really. It plays ok imo but it feels super-bareboned & all the menus are really ugly.

Edit: & the graphics are obviously bad haha.

So this sorta tells me that my initial hunch about THPS5 being a digital download only was right. At some point, they changed it to be a full retail release too.

Still, I shouldn't be shocked considering this is Activision we're talking about.

Holy shit this game keeps on delivering! We're talking about Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing levels of awfulness here! It is going to be smashed on reviews I predict a freaking 20 on MC at least!

They also released Tony Hawks Project 8 and Tony Hawks Proving Ground so they kind of put the series in the spot it's in now. Those two games effectively killed the series. Let's not pretend Neversoft are innocent here.

True. I never plays those. I guess most of my memories of the series are with the original 3.

To be fair, Neversoft was forced to start splitting their teams for Guitar Hero right around THP8. That was pretty much the end of the Tony Hawk focus. It was more bad studio management by Activision.

yep, even Nintendo games are getting day one patches these days

No, not really. When Project 8 came out Neversoft had nothing to do with Guitar Hero and Proving Ground came out a little before GH3 (the first Neversoft Guitar Hero)

Make excuses all you want but Project 8 was an abomination that killed the series and Neversoft is the only company to blame for it.
