Hello Games Sean Murray will be on the Late Show with Colbert next week demoing NMS

This is pretty awesome. It's one thing to have games like Call of Duty but NMS is as close to an indie game as we're probably going to get on late night.

Off topic but, no offense to Sean Murray, the real news here is BILL WITHERS!?!?

Holy shit! Easily one of the greatest musicians of all time. No question. I would lose my mind if I ever met him.

Edit: For those of you unaware educate yourselves

Yeah I think we are in agreement that that is the real news. The No Man's Sky stuff is likely going to be nothing other than another quick glance at it. Bill Withers is all that matters. The only thing that could outshine him is if Jimmy Cliff randomly shows up, just because.

I love Colbert. Unfortunately I don't have cable in my room at College and the episodes are too late for me (at least for the latter half). Are they all online? Any episodes after the first week that were especially great?

I mean with an indie dev going for an interview/demo on Late Night and the fact that there's a 90 minute New Yorker event called "Blast Off" the day after, it seems like we should be getting the release date.

There is absolutely no way that tons of people don't love this game.

-It's huge. Infinite content means it's worth infinite dollars to the everyman. The second Sean scrolls out that galaxy map wallets open.

-It looks nice. Unlike minecraft, the graphics are stylized and work within a small budget without seeming so. At first glance, it looks like a game that someone could buy for $60. It looks like a "real game" to both casual and hardcore gamers.

-they keep selling that the player can do anything, and that it feels like a "real world to explore". They are selling it not as a game to be beaten or a story to be participated in, but as a de facto Holodeck that enables the player to simulate the experience of sci fi space travel and exploration. That's the golden ticket. Everyone wants to go to space.

There's a reason it's being demoed on the Late Show. Critics, hardcore gamers, casual gamers, nongamers, they all want to go to space. And that's all they need to know to make a purchase.

Its an opinion about a possible outcome of a game. I didn't say IT WILL BOMB. And stop making generalizations man.

And it certainly feels like the release date is close.

Gaming seems to be at least being looked at these days instead of just dismissed constantly! Here's to moving forward with high art!

Video games can never be high art when most video game companies view and treat the games as products or toys rather than art.

But yes this is great with the mainstream media.

Kinda has to be considering they need a month to go from gold to release since I'm pretty sure it's not digital only and they want to release before black friday for maximum holiday sales.

Y'all are tripping if you think we're getting a release date here. Just another sessions of making us want something then wandering off giving us vague dates.

I'm perfectly prepared to eat my hat about this mind if I'm wrong.

Regardless of whether or not they announce a date there, an interview like this would have to be relatively close to release, right? Seems to demo it to a new, well, demo if it's not going to be fresh in their minds when they can actually spend money on it.

I don't think we'll get a release date. When has a release date ever been announced on a TV show? I can't remember one.

Is this where he is announcing the release date?? Lol

At this point I have no faith in this releasing 2015.

I think the best we can hope for is him getting asked " so when is this coming out ? " and Murray stating they will announce the release date " soon " like he said at E3

Wonder what happened around E3 when Sean Murray said that they were about to announce a release date and it had to be pushed.

Game having unforeseen problems, or marketing shenanigans I wonder?

I think it'll play out one of two ways:

1. A December release date will be announced. My guess would be 12/8, a few days after PSX. There might even be a new PS4 bundle announced.

2. VR support is unveiled. This was all set up to have Colbert losing his shit with a PSVR headset on playing its flagship launch title to start to building mainstream hype.

Seems odd for a game like this to go on a show like that to do a glorified IGN's first segment and leave with no new info.

This Fall is too crowded, especially with Fallout 4 and Battlefront being released. This game works better for a summer 2016 release. Well-established franchises are best to come out in the Fall.

Early-to-mid Fall is crowded, December isn't, especially in the way of PS4 exclusives. Fallout 4( MS marketing deal) will have been out a month, and the people who bought an online Star Wars game are precisely the type of people who'd find NMS attractive. Plus releasing in the thick of Star Wars fever weeks before the movie could be great opportunity to latch on to the zeitgeist and gain some added momentum.

If he's not announcing a release date and if it's not soon I'm not sure I even see the point in him appearing on the show. If he's going to capture public attention on a major television show then it makes sense to capitalise on that and be able to definitively tell viewers when it will be available.

I'll be watching on the internet after the fact. Loving that Fallon and Colbert are featuring games on their show often.

I'm kind of at the point with this game where I want them to shut up and just let me play the damn thing. :/

That's disappointing that there wasn't a release date but there's still a couple of events for them to do it at.

That was pretty obvious to me. They wouldn't announce the release date on such a show. Either they make a special announcement on the PlayStation Blog (not very likely) or they hold it back for an event, like say... Paris Games Week or PlayStation Experience.
My money's on PSX

My money's on PSX

Yeah me too. But that would definitely confirm that NMS is delayed to 2016 and there's a little part of me that still hopes it'll come out before the end of the year.

Or maybe, they announce "available right now" at PSX. That would be awesome.

I think I'm too optimistic, damned.
