Ubisoft confirms that Rainbow Six: Siege will NOT feature a single-player campaign

Wow, this is horrible. I hate the beta, I was looking forward to a rainbow 6 campaign, this is bullshit

Online only games do not appeal to me. I know there are people who never play campaign modes in cod and bf, but that's them. The first thing I do is play the single player in those games

Not paying $60 to play this online only piece of crap

R6V MP and SP were both a blast - as was Terrorist Hunt. They could have made a pretty cool story-line with the mechanics they have shown in MP. I just can't get behind the MP only bandwagon, sorry series I loved!

I have a bad feeling about where this will lead its sales to: Siege - say Hi to Evolve!

Wait, didn't we know this for a looong time?

I like how the game plays from the Beta, but I don't think it have legs, specially with the amount of coordination needed, playing with randoms is just a no go.

Go-go-go has gone-gone-gone.

Too bad, I enjoyed two R6s on the PS3 (single-player only). My wife still makes fun of me by quoting "On me" and "go-go-go" all the time.

How on earth did the most thoughtful single player shooter franchise on the market turn into a multiplayer only CT vs T game?

I'm pretty sure half the people here didn't read the word "campaign" and assumed that all single-player elements were removed. What I understand is that the game doesn't have a campaign but has missions based around each map, sort of like the original counter strike where the "campaign" was actually just progressing through a series of maps.

They should clarify, but that seems to be the case.

Developers are basically seeing how much content they can cut from a game and still get away with it. we've pretty much lost our single player campaigns

I have read through the thread and I'm still confused about something. The topic of consumer value in MP-only games interests me so I'll pose my question here.

I don't recall Titanfall or Evolve experiencing this level of backlash when it was revealed they would be MP-only games. I know a lot of folks wanted single player content, but were not principally opposed to the MP-only nature of them. The same goes for Destiny's reveal, to a somewhat lesser extent. Someone correct me if I'm misremembering, of course.

All that said, can someone tell me what is different about this game? To clarify, this is not rhetorical. I genuinely want to know the difference in substance between games like Titanfall and Evolve being "OK" as MP-only, while the majority sentiment in this thread is that RS:S is anything but.

In my opinion, if the Devs aren't including SP, they'll have to have double the maps, game modes and operators of games like BF4/COD:AW/BOP11 if it wants a chance at surviving. If they release with 9 maps 5 game modes etc this game will be DOA.

I think the major issue is that every Rainbow Six game prior HAD a single player campaign, and the majority of them were pretty good. I loved the Rainbow Six Vegas games, and was hoping for more like that.

Titanfall and Evolved had the benefit of being new IPs, and therefore weren't tied to the preconception that we're now getting less for the same cost, I think.

This game's gonna flop. They'll pay a bunch of streamers and Youtubers to play the game and to pretend that they like it. That will give it the appearance of having some life for a few weeks and then it will whither and die once the money stops flowing and the streamers move on to the next thing.

With the popularity of CS:GO and Halo 5 and CoD coming out relatively soon, this game has zero chance to make a lasting impact.

There was plenty, for both of those games. I think Titanfall got far more heat though, as it put more of an onus on world building and story with its "multiplayer versus campaign". And its not like we have a lot of mech based campaigns out there, much less put out by former Infinity Ward folks.

Looking at Evolve from the outside, I don't know what a single player campaign would even look like.

Personally. There isn't a difference, i didn't buy either of those either and never will. Evolve though there definately no difference, people didn't like the idea of MP only for that game and it sold like shit becasue of it, this will probably be the same. Titanfall is a bit of a unique situation becasue it was being touted as the next COD and was essentially an exclusive, that can help sales. Nothing will save this beyond going free to play. Lol

At E3, didn't they have some high profile voice actress for the game? What is the point of her if no single player? I vaguely remember them showing off a cutscene too.

Again, thankfully this isn't the genre I play, and I'd be even more upset if this happened in games I like.

This game to me was always a salvage attempt to recoup some of the sunk cost from Patriots. So rather than forking out more resources to put out a proper single player campaign they just dropped the idea altogether.

Ubisoft usually has strong single player portions of their games especially the Clancy titles so I can respect them for not half assing it, but it should be reflected in the price.

Also I do think they have mislead consumers to a large degree on this as well, when you trot out Angela Basset at E3 and show her giving a speech in game most people are thinking there is a robust single player.

Not to mention the Wikipedia page for the game says single-player and multiplayer.

I'm not sure if this is what people want to hear – but imo the Terrorist Hunt in the R6 Siege Beta (on Realistic difficulty) is the best co-op gameplay the Rainbow 6 series has ever had.

An anecdote copied from a different thread:

I can confirm that (on Realistic at least) the AI is very clever indeed. They come out with some incredibly complex and co-ordinated maneuvers sometimes, and there are 3-4 'types' with different behaviours.

Realistic Terrorist Hunt in Seige is some next level shit, even with SWAT 4 and Rainbow Six 3/Vegas in mind.

A brief example: one time myself and four others had a go at the 'House' level, and killed all but 7 of the terrorists. When we started, there were no enemies outside of the building. We went in through the basement, cleared every floor systematically and fully, and three of us were killed, leaving two guys to tackle the last 7 tangos. These last two players ended up on the top floor, stumped because there was no sign of the last 7 terrorists who we couldn't find in the house. So they start clearing the floors again, top floor to bottom floor. It's a tense, silent couple of minutes, each of them checking corners and doorways and tentatively leaning around bullet/explosive holes in walls and floors to check they aren't going to get sniped.

While checking a doorway on the middle floor, one of them turns around to see a terrorist come running up the stairs. He starts firing - when suddenly another terrorist comes running up after the first. Then another. Then another. Then a grenade came flying up the stairwell. And another terrorist emerged.

In a co-ordinated attack between 7 individual NPCs, the terrorist AI fully bum-rushed the last two players when they least expected it – and had obviously co-ordinated to go outside the building once the gunfighting started and wait until all was quiet before sneaking in en masse and ambushing the remaining two players. Needless to say, we failed the mission - the guy was shot to death by the second or third terroris and the remaining 4-5 ran straight through the middle floor and got the last remaining player.

Terrorist Hunt is incredible - on Realistic at least.

Yes the map is smaller but the bad guys are infinitely more intelligent, the maps are brilliantly designed, and the gameplay is incredibly right.

I played a few rounds on normal, and Terrorist Hunt on normal isn't that great.

On Realistic though? I might even use the word God-tier to describe it. It's seriously amazing.

This wont flop because of this of course but they will have a lot less sales that's for sure...and how long will people play...? will it be another Evolve or a Destiny, time will tell...

Yeah so Siege has the best t-hunt in the series confirmed. I've been playing it all day and oh boy is it awesome. So many ways to tackle the terrorists and as others have said in the thread, these terrorists don't mess around. They really fuck you up, and not via aimbotting or wallhacking but by what actually seems like really great AI.

Good work Ubisoft, you just made yourself another pre-order of your game.

Yeah this kind of A.I. would be perfect for a single player campaign.

Been playIng terrorist hunt and I went from not really interested to considering purchasing on day one.

I played the shit out of t-hunt on Vegas 1 and 2 and this seems even better.

That said, game seems pretty buggy but hopefully they're working on that.

All the game needs really is the ability to fully customize your charter. Like Vegas 2 did. Have the game be more personal. None of this faceless dudes and gals. I want to pick my own armor and own colors and weapons. That is all I ask, keep the single player, but I want to be able to go crazy customizing everything.

I played realistic as well. But it still doesnt compare to vegas terrorist hunt

In terms of what? There are some differences (no doors, not third person cover system, etc) but it's still very much the same fun (with frimds or strangers) and very exciting imo. Or are you just talking about ai? And you can probably choose the number of terrorists in the final game. Allready about 30 of them in a level, or not?

Angela Bassett.... oh man it would have been so cool to have her in a video game. I totally forgot about the e3 announcement.

Yeah, I don't really see why this should get a pass while Evolve and Titanfall were torn apart (by some) for the exact same structure.

It will be interesting to see the legs of this title, as it literally seems like the exact same situation as Evolve to me; New title with exciting, if a bit gimmicky, multiplayer that really leans on one specific mode.
