Halo 5 out in the wild. Beware of leaks/spoilers.

I wish there was a store by me that released games early.

I still need to beat CE on legendary for that armor set and I just got the third Forerunner book. There's not enough time!

It's entirely possible to enjoy a game for reasons other than the (in my opinion) mediocre story. Most people I know that enjoy the Halo games would not place "story" among the reasons why they like it. It is a decent dumb first person shooter about pointing your gun at aliens and then pressing the trigger, not much else substantial to it in my opinion.

The notion that many people play it primarily for the story is a bit of a surprise to me, but I can obviously accept that lots of people enjoy lots of different games for a variety of reasons.

I was enthralled with the story for halo 1-reach but 4 was dumb and i expect 5 to be dumb. I am buying this game for the multiplayer and gameplay of the single player.

I think 343's handling of the halo story has been childish and too self serious for its own good.

The trailers and live action stuff for this one have already been stupid.

Cool. You don't find the story appealing.

We do though, so not getting spoiled is a matter of importance.

I would never spoil a game for someone regardless of how invested I was in the story, that would be a dick move no matter what my opinion of the game story is.

If you think Halo has a bad story your opinion is not only wrong but it's laughable.

Even if you based it off of the games themselves the story is better than a very vast majority (maybe even all) first person shooters.

Add in the expanded lore and it's one of the most deep video game universes ever.

The Halo story spans much further than just the games. Believe it or not the universe is filled with rich backstories and intriguing plotlines. Grab a book and give it a read before you label it mediocre.

Would Microsoft do anything to someone playing this game before the release date? The servers wouldn't even be one yet right? So the campaign would be what people could play early?

You'd just de-Internet it until launch. Unless you're some sort of moron.

I mean 343 killing Sgt. Johnson was an assault on good storytelling so I kinda see where he is coming from.

They have in the past. So yes, they could do something.

I'll definitely be on the lookout for streams then, since I'm not really invested in the story at all. It looked gorgeous in the early footage, so I'm pumped to see more. I feel for the big Halo guys though, I'm sure its gonna be a tough wait.

And screenshot & game clips won't be uploaded to gamedvr servers until the day of release but there is a thing called capture cards.

Spoilers: Mister Chief shoots the baddies.

Seriously people play these for the story?
I didn't at first, then I got way into it with Halo 2, but after years of stories going nowhere until the whole thing imploded with Halo 4, I only want to play this one to butt stomp some dudes in outer space. I don't even expect the shooty parts to be good again, I just want to drop it like it's hot ("it" being, obviously, my butt... on some space dude's face).

Gold means mass production has started. They need to print and ship the game to every possible location, before release. We are 16 days before release and normally games go gold much earlier.

This is nothing surprising and the same happened to Halo 4, where people stole copies from the manufactory in Mexico.

Gold means that the game is finished and has passed cert. In the past, this had to be done before mass production was started. In today's world, that's not necessarily the case due the availability of patches in the ecosystem.

Real question:
Could a game officially "go gold" after having already been sent to print? And this recent "gone gold" just mean the day 1 patch is also ready, even if the game is already being pressed to discs?

It can. I have no idea if that is the case with Halo 5 or not, but it is possible for there to be an unfinished (but "passed cert") game on a disc that more or less requires a day one patch to be complete.

Since installation is required, couldn't Microsoft block access to the game if they chose to? Not sure if this is possible but it would be a great feature for Microsoft to investigate.

No one will block access to the disc itself. That would be PR suicide.

What MS can do is block online access and take down any pre-release stream.

I am an avid reader and I enjoy good science fiction. I have zero interest in reading the novelization of a video game, simply because I would assume that it would be terrible.

I assume there are people that really enjoy Halo novels, because I understand not everyone shares my taste in fiction. I'm completely fine with that.

Fair enough, the novels are hit and miss but some of them are definitely quality.

A post expressing an opinion and yet spoiling nothing...

Anyway, I guess I am done with this thread. I genuinely hope you all enjoy Halo 5. I do enjoy the Halo games, but not for the story.
I'm not saying your opinion is invalid, but the way you handled this whole thing is a mess. First you go "Who gives a fuck about the story?" and then "But yeah, I understand why people would be pissed." If you can understand the latter, why would you make the former comment in this thread, which was made to inform people of possible leaks.

Since the install size is 60gb, and Blu-Ray only holds up to 50gb, it means the day one patch must be at least 10gb.

This sounds slightly patronizing. I'm also an avid reader of science fiction and horror genres and I still appreciate the Halo novels. Whether or not the writing itself is award worthy is irrelevant. The universe is filled with interesting stories and the books do a great job at fleshing out the lore.

First time in my life I'm down for spoilers. I am so far beyond caring about Halo's story now. Shame, really, I used to love the story so much.

Hopefully the embargo will be a bit earlier than the 27th. It's always fun to watch the video reviews a few days before the game comes out.
