I don't like change that lowers the bar and sets an entire genre backwards, no.

Do we have screenshots of the dialogue interface on PC?
Maybe its just a console thing.

I don't like the layout, especially if you will have more text for each option.

Edit:

lol c'mon now

I wouldn't expect the PC version to be any different until someone mods it.

I don't necessarily love how they're handling dialogue from the looks of it, but a lot of the reactions here are pretty funny.

There's annother post from the spanish guy that may interest people who are planning on playing the game on consoles, it's regarding stability and frames.

He starts by saying that the game runs stable and fluid. And that he's in a zone that is packed with stuff like tall buildings, ruins, fires, sun lighting(like sun effects) and many enemies. When there's alot going on in that zone there are times when the game "mini freezes" for less than a second. It is the first time during his 30 hours of playing that this happens. He mentions again that the zone he's in has alot of stuff going on.

Also prior to this he gives his impressions on a quest he just started that seems really good.

This is beyond wrong. Each VA voiced over 13,000 lines of dialogue. That's more than most games. The entire game has over 111k lines of dialogue, almost 4x times that of TW3. More than Skyrim and FO3 combined.

They spend over 3 years with the lead VAs for the game. Most games spend only a few months at the end of development.

Whatever reason they chose this style of conversation, it's not because they cheaped out on the VA.

Then why not have even more dialogue options? Why this route?

Times? I wonder how often when in those heavily populated zones.

I'm extremely curious about these 100K+ lines of dialogue. Unless Bethesda has recently had a massive overhaul in its writing department, this does not bode well. Sure, wait until the game is released but the track record with Bethesda and depth... not after playing Wasteland 2. I'm not going back.

Didn't Alpha Protocol have a similar situation? I remember that was one of the few games where I had regular trouble with some of the responses. Never an issue with BioWare games and only some occasional misunderstandings with TellTale's games.

I don't remember having much issues with AP, but that Thornton could be a crazy bastard at times.

Aside from LA Noire I've never really encountered anything that I felt was way off from what I thought they'd say.

Oh man, the reviews are going to be so interesting. I'm definitely going to wait for them before getting the game, if I do so this month.

Willing to bet that focus group testing lead to the fact that a majority of players actually don't engage in the conversations beyond surface level queries.

The 'average' gamer is probably there for the free-roam, the loot, the silly shit you can do. The quests are all too much readin'. Hence the new system.

I can't believe this is real. So we get voices in return for a completely butchered experience. Seriously starting to doubt this game now.

How can you tell from just one screenshot about a single piece of conversation?

What if the actual question warranted only those answers?

Wait until the actual game is out to doubt it.

Makes plenty of sense.

I honestly believe that eventually, the majority of those complaining about the dumbing down will end up enjoying the time they spend with the game anyway.

I never knew people liked reading through full responses to select the one they want so much. It seems people are upset due to losing the illusion of control.

Either way, I'm not sold that the dialog/VA changes will have a huge negative impact on the game, but I'm still excited to play it myself.

Bethesda lowering the bar on their games isn't hyperbole at all, they've been doing that for every game they've released after Morrowind. Stripping out game mechanics, simplifying this and taking away that. In the case of dialog, we've gotten plenty of impressions from people who've been playing for tens of hours and that's honestly better than the whole lot of nothing Bethesda's given us. It sounds shallow and thin and for a western RPG by one of the supposedly premier developers in the genre, that is a huge step backwards.

Don't get me wrong - I think that it's way too early to judge an entire system from just a few screenshots and even if the new system is all like that screenshot, I'd still enjoy the game. That doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy it more if it had dialogue more akin to NV/3, but it won't stop me from playing the game. Like it's more like a negative than a deal breaker for me.

While the dialogue system seems to be very, very disappointing, some of the hyperbole in this thread is absolutely sensational

We don't know. We haven't even seen a full conversation yet. We have no real idea how this works in practice. All we have is a translation of Spanish leaker. Not say he's wrong or anything, but it's not exactly a very clear picture of things.

What's frustrating to me is that so much of what is bad about the UI change could be alleviated by just showing the resulting subtitle string at the bottom before you confirm. I don't necessarily care that dialogue is in 4 choice branches because that only really requires a structure shifting of the dialogue itself, but I do care that I can't actually read what my character is going to say before I select it, and there is all kinds of room on the screen to eliminate this problem altogether.

I'd totally play a shitty-looking game if the mechanics were solid and the gameplay was fun and rewarding

I'd never play an amazing-looking game that felt like a chore to play
