I played through Oblivion, Skyrim, F3, and FNV all on PS3 so I'm somewhat used to this....still disappointed though...

Okay, this sounds vaguely familiar but I haven't really heard of it before. I guess it's because of the windows 8 (or whatever OS it is) architecture that it needs, or has, a faster processor right?

Then what is it that makes PS4 run more games at 1080p where X1 is usually forced down to 900p?

PS4 has a significantly better GPU.

It has a faster processor because MS decided to clock the chip slightly higher. This has nothing to do with the OS.

Resolution has basically nothing to do with CPU performance. It's a function of GPU performance. And the PS4 GPU is significantly faster.

Knock Knock.

Who's there?

Bethesda.

Bethesda Who?

Fallout 4 will run at a smooth 30fps at launch.

It seems like you can get whichever version you want if you're a reviewer. Someone posted earlier that Giant Bomb has the PS4 version.

Damn I changed my preorder to Xbox after someone said review copies are Xbox one. I guess if it runs worse than ps4 I'll return it to Amazon and get the ps4 version.

People said that about TW3 too. Would rather they try to fix it, and if all else fails put an option in for those that want it. Forcing that would just make me mad personally.

Heh. You didn't see the thread where somebody suggested having graphics options on console games...

I don't see why this is an issue. Most people don't even notice if the framerate in a game is 60, 30 or 20. It's just another reason to complain. Internet hate culture is really starting to annoy me. Do you know how big Fallout 4 is? You can enter a ton of houses. No loading screens. I'm not surprised the framerate dips a little under 30 on consoles. This game is even bigger than Skyrim. At least give it a chance.

This obsession with framerate in a game is getting out of hand. You have developers like Miyazaki openly stating they don't give a fuck about frames per second, but people still complain. Remember Blighttown? The framerate changed that entire area. It added to the challenge. It was a clever way to manipulate the technology and use it to change the rules. But do you think people appreciated it? Naw, they'd rather complain. On PC, people even went as far as casualizing that entire area by making it run at 60 frames per second.

Honestly, people don't really care about the framerate. If it was 60, they'd find another reason to complain. I bet most of you won't even play it on PS4, so why complain? Just play it on pc and install one of those japanese waifu mods and change all the enemies into pikachus or something. jesus christ...

I appreciate Dawgs opinions and views, the dude gave solid coverage of Witcher 3 pre-patches and This is no different

It all comes down to on how much backbone Bethesda has now. CDPR PS4 version was also not that great, but they invested a lot to get the game fixed. Bethesda should follow or go fuck themselves.

Wow this looks unplayable when playing with a sniper rifle. How can you even aim properly when the FPS is this bad. TC looked like he was struggling to aim when zoomed in due to low FPS making the game so unresponsive. But will get 9/10 anyway probably from the brand name alone. This type of engine optimization is not excusable. If they can't get it to run at least at stable 30 FPS during the entire game they should not release it. IMO ofcourse.

The point is that these two things are not mutually exclusive. You can love a game and still want it to have an appropriate level of technical quality at the same time. In fact, you should want that even more because you love the game. And you won't get that without a little bit of public outcry.

Oh I fully understand. It's somewhat frustrating but I yuess it's human nature for people to want that echo chamber.

What? Bethesda putting out a game that performs poorly and doesn't look so great? I don't believe it. Next you will tell me reviewers and players alike will write it off under the guise of the potential in the game and award it GOTY status.

You know how people ask why some games have problems like they do?

It's because of people like this.

When they can get people to turn on their fellow consumer and in fact berate them for even trying to want a better experience, you know you won.

Exactly, why do developers bother putting any effort into graphics or framerate, it's only a first world problem that the general public won't notice any way if it's fun.

Going to pretend it's an intentional slowdown that's in effect for sniping?

No one is "pretending" to do anything. Some people just aren't as flagrantly offended as others are over a loss of frames. I watched the video in the OP and nothing struck me as "horrible," but rather as how I expected Fallout 4 to run on a PlayStation 4.

We'll always have the Ron Swanson gif.

You know if you think about it this is even worse for them. If the videos up you can watch it and maybe say "wow, that's not too bad, I can live with that". Now that it's taken down you just have to assume the worst based on the comments.

So you openly admit that you just have low expectations for the performance on PS4?

Jesus would it have killed them to add some AO

Bethesda would be fine but I don't think the framerate could handle it

this game could run at 5 frames on every console and it will still sells millions on copies, casual players and kids ( that shouldn't play this game but they do because of irresponsible parents ) will never notice this, that's why companies get away with so much crap, because the ones who pay attention are a small margin compared to the ones that don't

Honestly, I don't see any problem with the video. Music sounds good. How's playing the game in third person? That's what I care about since that's how I would be playing the game entirely.

Holy shit has this thread grown fast!

I'm going to pick up Tomb Raider this week and Fallout around Christmas. Wonder how many patches it will have had by the time I pick it up?

That scope video is.... wow. That's unacceptable, especially considering how unimpressive the game looks. If my PC wasn't up to snuff I'd be seriously considering waiting at least a few months to play this.

Um..what?

There's tons of bugs that are considered game breaking without resulting in crashes or visual artifacts.

That said, my post was using a non-standard definition to imply that I wouldn't be caught dead continuing to play a game if the framerate degraded so poorly during aiming. Real-time sniping is my combat mode of choice in fallout and seeing the framerate crapout so consistently is definitely something that would ruin the game for me.

Edit: I see that zenimax has taken down the video with a DMCA copyright strike. For those that didn't see it, the player is using a sniper laser rifle and whenever they zoom in the framerate drops down to ~10~15 fps. Consistently. It visibly messes with the player's ability to aim.

You said the sniping video was "game breaking." There is nothing in that video that is "game breaking." Again, if it were game breaking, he wouldn't be able to proceed. Clearly that isn't the case.

Frustrating. Gameplay spoiling. Sure. Breaking. Nope. Don't need to hyperbolize when a rational response works just as well.

The Frame Rate In Fallout 4 PS4Vers Is Bad?

no way.

I'm fine as long as the game doesn't suck at delivering what a good wrpg or a good Fallout game should deliver. and I'd strongly believe that Bethesda on that front won't disappoint, if this were a magical world where magical things like hiring competent writers or suddenly turning into Obsidian happen.
