Nintendo Direct coming November 12 [Over]

But Snake is great.

Plus, seeing he will star in pachi slot games for the forseeable future it's good to throw the guy a bone.

My issue is he is not a Nintendo allstar. Or even a third party with major ties to Nintendo like the others. He was added as a favor.

If we were to get more third parties (which I do not even want), let them be with characters with ties to Nintendo

My view on Snake is the following:

Snake being a traditional PlayStation character is part of his appeal. In a way, he is like a window to the non-Nintendo universe. If anything, having a rep for things not directly related to Nintendo is a good thing; and Snake was a good choice, because his Nintendo appearances are exactly the kind of appearances that create a special bond between a franchise and a company. We don't typically get "regular" MGS games, but when we do, we're in for a special treatment.

I think that along with Mega Man (friend), Sonic (rival), he makes a pretty good variety of third-party characters, as the "outsider".

Besides, Nintendo and Metal Gear do have a special relationship in a way. The former's platforms has never received a single "normal" Metal Gear, but they are treated to the series in numerous other ways. From the shady NES entries, to the incredible Ghost Babel, to Twin Snakes, to Snake Eater 3D. There's something very meta about Kojima considering Miyamoto's work an inspiration for entering the industry in the first place, and Miyamoto overseeing Twin Snakes' development.

If nothing else, I'd say there's a mutual respect going on. Metal Gear is the best choice for a franchise representing the predominantly non-Nintendo games.

This makes no sense. They should add a GTA character if this is the case. They never received a "normal GTA" but got side ones on handhelds too.

There has to be a limit. I like Nintendo characters and third parties with major ties to nintendo. What do I mean with that? exclusives. A lot of them, if not the entire series.

Does anyone know of any Splatoon stuff that could be announced for this? Is everything from the 2.0 patch released yet, or close to it? There's no way they're done with Splatoon yet.

too much smash talk

Almost guaranteed. A bunch of placeholder details in the latest updates and the latest weapon being released as early as this morning as opposed to the typical Friday/Saturday schedule implies they got something else in store.

The way I see it, with this dlc, we have a chance to get new characters, I am not going to waste my time campaigning for someone I can play in an older game. That is just my take.

I'm sure you were happy to see Lucas, Mewtwo, and Roy though since they're Nintendo.

It feels like it's been a thousand years. It will be good to see a Direct again. #1 on my wish list is playable Octolings. (Octopuses are my favorite. Sorry Squids.) I will fill out the bingo card later.

Its almost expected Splatoon will appear in some way at the Nintendo Direct tomorrow :).

In that games case, we can make a number of safe guesses and be right thankfully.
-Octolings will be included in the game as an update; can be used online modes and have an exclusive Death-Match Mode.
-Could also see an single-player expansion that has playable Octolings and/or focused on level designs using different weapons (Ex: Navigating a level that forces you to use the Paintbrush/Roller to keep making platforms underneath you, while Octolings keep shooting their ink on the ground).
-New Maps and Weapons coming to the game throughout 2016 as free updates
-(Not Likely)- Mario Sunshine Cross-Over Content: You play as Mario (or an Inking dressed as Mario) and use a special FLUDD that removes Ink. Mechanics are a bit different and world is a hyrbid of Mario Sunshine and Splatoon. Paid DLC for 2016.
-(Not Likely)- Amiibo Skins/Themed Weapons: Supports most Smash Amiibo and lets you use them to unlock skins for your Inkings and unique weapons tied to the original characters (Mario = FLODD, Link = Bow with Ink Arrows, Samus = Arm Cannon that shoots different types of Ink, ect).

Guess the usual Reggie/Trinen/etc. will host their respective Directs, but wonder who will be on Japan's. The same "guy" that was with Iwata last time?

I think Inklings is almost guaranteed for tomorrow personally.

Definitely down for Octolings.

Wait most of that, or stuff that alludes to content like that was found in the files? Geez, that's awesome. Now I'm really hyped for this direct to see if this stuff is in.

Here's what I think will happen.

Begins with a tribute to Iwata.
Starts with showcasing the Xmas Wii U Games (Ultra Smash, Xenoblade X, Amiibo Festival etc.)
Showcases some Indie games like Shantae.
Then they move on to the Xmas 3DS games (Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and whatever else Nintendo wants to show case)
From here on it's trailers for games coming out next year (FE Fates, SMTXFE, Project X Zone 2, Star Fox Zero etc.)
Direct appears to end but then cuts to a Smash trailer revealing Wolf as a playable DLC character and a new patch out now.

A bit streamlined I'll admit but that's what I'm sort of expecting.

Let's see if you understand it this way:

whether someone likes sunshines's level design or not, he/she should still acknowledge sunshine's problems:
<snip>

NAILED IT. Great post. Here's what Sunshine as a game said to me: "Hey guess what? From now on you need to wait six agonizing years for a core Mario game, you will only get one core Mario home console game per gen and if you do, you'd better pray it's not 3D because we've decided we don't care if the 3D series are boring, buggy and completely detached from the sense of action and fun you get from the 2D games." Thank goodness Tokyo EAD turned it around completely with SMG 1&2. With SMG 1,2 and NSMB Wii, the Wii was "Core Mario heaven" for me personally.

GTA's and Metal Gear's relationships with Nintendo aren't comparable at all. Rockstar choosing the most popular handheld at the time for releasing a handheld GTA (that soon found its way to other platforms) isn't comparable with Ghost Babel remaining a Nintendo-exclusive game, or Twin Snakes being developed by a Nintendo-affiliated studio with an actual involvement of Nintendo people.

What I'm getting at is that the MG games for Nintendo aren't just "side games". They are games specifically made for Nintendo, acknowledging that the two parties do in fact have a close relationship (or at least did at the time). And that has been acknowledged in numerous other ways too, ranging from Snake's inclusion in Brawl in the first place, to his cameo in KojiPro's own Nintendo-exclusive franchise, Boktai, to several other little things.

This is my take too. It's just more exciting to see entirely new stuff rather than things we've seen before to me. It feels like a bit of a waste if Nintendo are coming out and asking fans for suggestions and it just ends in getting back old characters.

What are the chances of Pikmin 4 showing up?

I would say highly unlikely.

If you're Nintendo and you have an unrevealed game, why blow it now, the craziest time of the gaming year?

Why not wait until either a lull in gaming news, or if it's an NX / crossgen title (likely, imo) it's another cool part of your big NX reveal.

I wouldn't expect any new announcements tomorrow that aren't DLC or a remaster.

Is this confirmed or just some assumption?

Assumption.

I doubt Miyamoto would have said it was coming out SOON if it was for NX. Makes me think mobile or Wii U or even maybe 3DS.

That said, If NX could launch with Pikmin 4, Smash Ultimate Edition (all DLC, cut characters, new modes), Zelda U/NX, and even a new mario game, all within launch window, It'll have the best potential launch nintendo could hope for (from nintendo fans, at least).
Hardware/potential/appeal/exclusives/3rdPartySupport would dictate whether it would sell to non-nintendo-fans

Let's see if you understand it this way:

whether someone likes sunshines's level design or not, he/she should still acknowledge sunshine's problems:

- some of the content that made it into the final game was embarrasingly bad.
- the game not respecting the player's time. Blue coins = crazy amount of effort for almost no return. Shines where the game will kick you out of the level every time you fail, even though you still have plently of lives left. And it gets way worse, a clear example being the shine where you have to go to that island with yoshi in those slow moving boats just to get a try at beating a secret shine... hopefully you don't have to do it all again... The shine where you have to get the proper fruit for yoshi, only to get a chance at doing a series of crazy jumps with the mess that was yoshi. Misjudge one jump and you fall all the way down to the water. You now have to move all the way back to the top, try a couple times to get the proper fruit, and try the jumps again. Repeat. There's just so many times where the game will do this... the watermelon shine, the... shine... the game has poorly designed shines for days. Half the game was filler. The game was light on high quality content for a 3d mario game.
- the camera getting stuck in the enviroment...
- yoshi... no comment. How did that make it into the final game!? Since when does picking yoshi mean that you should lose most of your moves?

Oh no, but..

we should ignore everything bad with the game because the only thing that matters is if moving mario around is fun!?

no.

Sunshine wasn't just different. It was a sub-par nintendo game that had great game mechanics. Most player wouldn't play the game doing all kind of crazy things with mario like if it was a speedrun. The would instead play "normaly" (doing mainly what the levels ask them to do) and fight with all the game's problems.

I could understand how some of the objectives were tedious, and the camera was a bit glitchy at times, but ultimately, those things didn't negatively affect my enjoyment of the game.

What you need to understand is that different people have different levels of tolerance for different things. You may not have liked some of the design decisions in the game, but it doesn't mean that every one else has to not like them as well.

I'm not saying that you should ignore whatever shortcomings you feel that the game has. I'm saying that they weren't significant issues to me, especially when compared to how fun the game was. I'm also not saying that the game is perfect. I'm just saying that I thoroughly enjoyed it despite its imperfections. It's as simple as that.

And for the record, EVERY game has flaws and imperfections, depending on who you talk to, because people like different things. Unless you want to argue about technical problems, you can't really be objective about this. Entertainment is inherently subjective, so you'll just have to accept that people have a difference of opinion, and that's OK.

Playable Octolings and weapons/maps/a new mode are the only safe assumptions being made while everything else is just speculation. The Octolings got an update to the file that hosts their animation in the recent update (which granted is shared with Female Inklings - however the file for Male Inklings did not get the same treatment). The dataminer for Splatoon mentioned that a lot of the seemingly unused filesize was enough for loads of new content but likely not new single player content, plus it'd seem vexing for Nintendo to focus on new single player content for Splatoon as the multiplayer is the main focus of the game.

I'd rather have all the old characters back before they start adding new ones. Smash 4 has a huge amount of new characters, but also made some large cuts to vets.

I was actually pretty bummed that pretty much all of the DLC characters so far are returning ones. I haven't even bought any of them. If I hadn't gotten Mewtwo for free I wouldn't have gotten him either.

Yeah, you're probably right... lol I look a bit stupid haha ;P

Was hoping for something fun this time for the most hyped direct ever!

No worries, sorry to burst your bubble. Let me make it up by saying that it doesn't mean there won't be the Twilight Realm behind Shibata. ;-)

Wolf might have been planned without the ballot seeing as he's the only cut character left that has no issues of being included (like Pokemon Trainer, Ice Climbers and potentially Snake). Roy and Ryu obviously weren't ballot characters as they're files were found in the Mewtwo update data.

There hasn't been any character DLC since June so they could do another multiple character release anyway like Lucas/Roy/Ryu.
