The Legend of Zelda WiiU "confirmed" for 2016. Wolf Link amiibo compatible.

Not sure what happened, but the res on this new shot seems rather reduced as compared with the trailer. AA/bloom seems to be gone (sharp, aliased edges on shadows), grass has lost texture detail, draw distance seems shorter and there's an unpleasant smoggy haze covering everything. It's lost quite a bit of that striking Miyazaki style in colors and the painterly quality it had. My guess is that this new footage is from the Wii U version, while the previous version was running on early NX hardware or a PC Target render for the NX.

The only actual downgrade is the resolution/image quality. Everything else can be chalked up to TOD/weather conditions and location differences. We can't say that the draw distance has been downgraded because Link is in an area where hills and mountains obscure the far horizon.

To make a fair comparison, the shots need to be taken at the same place and at the same time of day, with the same weather/atmospheric conditions.

could just be more of a sunrise (reveal) vs sunset (new shot) thing

Yeah people actually thought the wiiu was capable of those kind of graphics, hopefully the NX version will look like the original reveal.

you're probably not in the loop so I'll tell you that it is that capable and a game with that level of technically demanding graphics is releasing this december and you can preload it on your Wii U right now

or are you trolling again ninjablade

If your talking about that pic, there is no way the wiiu version will match that, that's 1080p with great AA, the game on wiiu is already 720p and looks to have a lack of descent AA. It's already been downgraded.

What it was, was a bullshot. No one was expecting AA on a Wii U game since they never use AA in their games. Wind Waker HD was even 1080p and it also had no AA.

Was this posted?

Could be aesthetic changes. Though have we ever been this close to death mountain before? I don't remember if we have.

Am I the only one who thinks that Linkle will be the main character in this?
I wish you were, honestly. I don't understand why people make that stuff up. Linkle wasn't even kept for Hyrule Warriors Wii U, why do you think it'd be in this game with a totally different design?

The screens that Nintendo released two years ago were bullshots. It was the first or second time they have done that and I think and they shouldn't have done it. However that doesn't mean that the game looks any worst now. Take away the AA and you still have an incredible looking game in its own way.

I still have to play ALBW (3DS) and TPHD looks nice. Guess I'll be fine =) but man, I want this thing so bad, I'm feeling like a freaking teenager today...

ALBW is probably the best handheld Zelda ever, and maybe the second best overall Zelda. You might enjoy it ;)
TP is a good game :)

Really, it's pretty obvious what's happened. The press shots from the reveal are high res "bullshots" (rendered at 1440p and downscaled) meant for print media. The new screenshot is a straight framebuffer dump (720p no AA). This shouldn't really be a surprise, no one should of expected the actual game to look that clean. Image quality aside, I'm not really seeing any other major changes. Blooms still there, Grass looks the same other than the added jaggies, draw distance is literally impossible to compare given what we have.

This game looks way too gorgeous to release on the Wii U. I'm going to predict that the footage we just saw was Zelda on the NX. Read between the lines if you want :D

We literally just got a direct feed image from Nintendo which shows the game is running at 720p with some AA. NX version, if it does exist, will look much better than that.

Are you comparing that direct feed screen with 1440p bullshots?

This will probably end up being "better on NX" right? I wonder what the key feature of NX will be, and if Zelda 2106 will take advantage of them somehow. I wonder if I'll need to buy both the Wii U version and the NX version?

Jokes aside, we got a chubbier link who doesn't have the typical green tunic and has signs on him of sheikas and gerudos. I'm starting to think this really won't be a typical zelda at all, and i can't wait.

That art style is insanely gorgeous. Wonder what the amiibo functionality will be.
Its unlikely the NX gets released in 2016, but if it does, I hope it launches with Zelda.

Looks like the best visual style the series has had since Wind Waker SD.
Honestly, it may even be better than that and the OG Wind Waked is one of my favorite looking games ever.

This game looks like pure Disney-style magic without peer.

Every time I see any footage from this game, it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside that only Nintendo has ever evoked.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.

The shot was downscaled from in-engine source material for the press.

Why am I not seeing you in Ubi/EA threads discussing the exact same issue, using the exact same tone?..

Anyone want to do some speculations on the book Link is carrying? In past entries, Red Lion partnered with Link while sailing, Midna was hiding in the shadow and Fi was actually the sword. So I was thinking, if that book Link carrying is actually the partner this time around, as he/she/it is nowhere to be seen.

Maybe related?

I actually don't think there will be a "partner" this time around.

After seeing this new footage, I'm even more hyped for this game. Knowing Nintendo, this game is coming to WiiU and NX one way or another. Perhaps NX ends up with the improved visuals, longer draw distances, etc. as an incentive for people to prefer that version over the WiiU version. Keep the current audience happy while offering up something new for the emerging NX offering.

Seriously, the art direction is amazing. It feels like another take on what Skyward Sword was going for, but more handdrawn ghibli-animation instead of watercolour.

I really hope Zelda U will get the TP treatment, the fantastic art deserves 1080p and some AA.

If this is related, then we have another reference to Zelda 1, apart from the mountain on the box art.

Really hoping this is a remake of zelda 1, or at least set in the same time period in hyrule with similar items.

Another way to make the game 'easier', outside of the hint systems they've used in the past (watch a playthrough, eg) would be to let you buy keys again to bypass difficult puzzles. No one would force you to buy a key, but if you were stuck in a dungeon you could just use the key you bought (make them different from keys found in dungeons, so it clears the room of enemies/opens one of the doors).

Would absolutely break the game for speedrunners though (unless you have key vs no key runs)

Nice to see that Zelda U is still coming to the Wii U; honestly thought that they would have made it NX Exclusive or something but nope, they are keeping their word and releasing on Wii U next fall :).

Nice to hear that the Amiibo will be supported for the game but don't know what it can do (maybe it gives link an item or something?).

I hope we get some gameplay from the Game Awards Show this December and that we hear more about the game (name change, mechanics, dungeons, story, ect) early next year before E3 lands.
