I don't know why for each map in Supremacy I get put onto the same specific side every time, but I'll take it

Not bad from IGN. Once Meta and Shinobi are up to date in the OP, this game will have fared pretty well.

I'm surprised the game is reviewing as highly as it is.

I played the beta for a number of hours and enjoyed it, and it made me look forward to the game because I thought the beta was just a tiny tiny taste of a much larger game.

I've played the full game for maybe 5 hours now, and I'm just left feeling empty. There are only four 20v20 maps. There are only a handful of unlocks and the scope of customization is extremely limited. There are only a few vehicles, only the same 6 heroes on every map, and they don't even have movie appropriate wardrobe.

It feels like a vapid toy at worst and a proof of concept at best. When I consider FO4 cost $60 and this also cost $60 it kind of blows my mind. The range of what is considered acceptable value in a video game is so expansive.

Have they talked about what the long-term DLC plan for this game is? Seems like it's ripe for add-on content and I don't want to drop $60 for this and end up paying double that just to play all of the content.

you realize you don't have any proof behind that, right? i don't know why you think what you think is true, but there's a reason the game got really good impressions at every trade show it was at, still had hugely positive wom after both the closed alpha and the open beta, and ended up at the same metascore as fallout 4:

a month from now people will still be playing battlefront unlike titan fall, even if the hardcores bail the casuals will keep it alive till DLC comes out and brings the hardcores back

Well, the Season Pass was announced the other week and costs $50, but they haven't given details on the content yet.

Regardless of the actual qualit of Battlefront. EA just built the greatest Star Wars game asset library ever created, that I imagine will be used for years.

The lack of content will easily get fixed, just buy the overpriced season pass, voilà.

Devs still releasing maps as paid dlc in this day and age is laughable.

On our planet and it timeline, its quite a common thing. Its sad, but certainly not laughable

DICE just release a FREE map for BF4 a few weeks ago and a second huge conquest remake from BF2 is coming soon after witch also includes the best DM map from BF3 noshahr canals, nether you need to own the season pass to play...... so people its ok to get off your soapbox now

They also made that decision halfway through the game's lifespan, and partly as a program that was designed to make amends for the horrible, horrible launch. And I generally really like DICE/Battlefield!

It will obviously take some time for me to form a decision on the game's content or lack thereof. That said, i'm having a ton of fun with the different modes.

oh so you work inside the company and know their reason for doing things? the let me ask you this why did they also add game modes just for fun only to the test server like skid loader assault

is it that much of a shock that DICE gives a crap about their games and want to support their fans? well if you're right and they are just making amends for a poor launch then id assume they would do the same thing with battlefront considering all the backlash about lack of content

The season pass better be amazing because the core game is sickly lacking in content.

By the way, $49.99 is an insane amount to have to pay for content that should have been included in the core game to round-out the release.

The epitome of lazy and shameful game development.

Played for two hours tonight. Had a great time, but I'm not sure how much I'll get out of this in the long run. Graphics look great overall but some interiors seemed to have a good amount of shimmering/aliasing. The speeder bike challenge was phenomenal!

Two years after launch, and during most of those two years they only released content in the $50 season pass, or if you wanted to buy the expansions separately. They're still doing paid DLC for battlefront. Maybe they'll eventually release stuff for free, and we do know that we're getting at least they one map for free later in December, but it doesn't change the fact that Battlefront will receive the bulk of its post launch content in the form of paid DLC

I hope Best Buy has a B2G1 or there's some way for me to get this game for $35 or less. I want it but no way am I paying $60 and then possibly paying another $50 for the other half of the game.

from my understanding DICE was not allowed to make a story campaign due to Disney taking over, remember all the old games use to be part of the EU cannon and now they are all bunk and if anything is going to 'fill in the gaps' its going to be Disney they have 6 star wars movies coming out over the next 6 years... you think they would allow a video game to tell the story of what happen in the 30 years from jedi to ep7? they will milk every penny out of that
Yes.

Neither do you. Presuming to speak for 'most' isn't really something you can 'prove' in any real way, most certainly not with metacritic of all things.

You claimed that most wouldn't agree that the gameplay was fresh. What's the point of even going forward and disagreeing not only once, but twice, effectively doubling down on your statement, if you're just going to say "well you can't prove either way so I'm right?"

Like, if you want, I can go ahead and find GAF posts from the various Titanfall threads, or any of the Titanfall reviews (of which the vast majority are positive) where they mention how they like the game for being fresh or different or new or any other version of that, but I doubt you'll even acknowledge that, probably saying that critics don't mirror most gamers or that NeoGAF is only indictive of a small subset of gamers. If you don't want to have a conversation in the first place why bother?

that's not what the conversation was about, but even what you're saying isn't that likely. casuals might keep it alive but i doubt hardcores will ever come back in a meaningful way, no matter how much DLC comes out.

I thought they said it included

20 new pieces of galactic tech including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials

Four more heroes and villains for you to fight as or against

16 additional multiplayer maps featuring new locations

Four new game modes

Two-week early access to each expansion pack

Exclusive “Shoot First” emote

Sorry, I meant actual details, not just counts. 16 maps doesn't mean much (to me, personally) if only 4 will be added for WA and Supremacy, for example.

I really enjoyed the beta, but only 4 maps for the supremacy mode is going to keep this game on my wishlist until a sale comes around. Back to Fallout.

Soo why are tie fighters garbage? no matter which on i pick, the interceptor or the tie fighter they seem like they are paper. die in less than a second of being shot every time lol..

where as the a wing & x wing seem to have much more health, on top of having defense buff as an ability. while the imperial ships simply have a speed boost on both variants which doesnt save you at all once someone starts tailing you and auto locking their shots on you..

I lose so much as imperial and it feels like both of their ships are paper thin weaker versions than the rebel ships :/

Yeah, the less caught-up-in-the-hype reviews seem to confirm my worry that this game is really lacking in content and depth for a full-priced MP-only game. Had there been a good SP campaign thrown in I'd have jumped on it, now I'll be waiting for price drops.

That is how their tech was. Have you tried "evasive maneuvers"? It is on the D-Pad. Up/Left/Right when you get locked onto. They are designed for speed/maneuverability/precision from the Empire with nothing put into shields. All speed and guns.

Thanks for the reply. I don't usually get hung up about this sort of thing, but the high price point (over $100 for everything day one) makes it tempting to wait for the inevitable GOTY version that will include everything. I mean, is there any reason to think that something like this won't pop up a year from now?

I picked up Titanfall day one on 360 only to buy it on X1 with all past and future DLC included for $10 on Black Friday later that same year. Sort of made me think about what the hell I was doing.

I am sure there will be a sale. At some point, I think it would come to EA Access, too.

I plan on waiting for a sale, myself.

Not a review of the game but one guy's reasoning for not buying Battlefront.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT7eHT9yuGE

Fair enough.

I am not 100% against season passes if the value is there, but I think that's a part of my past as a PC gamer, where expansion packs were just normal--they extended the life of the game, added a lot of content, and...cost money.

On the other hand, I think some gaming communities are really getting tired of split community bases that come with paid expansion content, so I really like the "free maps" approach that some devs are taking now.

Jim's review of Battlefront. 7/10

In many ways, Battlefront finds itself an unlikely comparison in Splatoon.

Like Splatoon, I’m finding the multiplayer compelling enough to keep going back, but unlike Nintendo’s squid-themed shooter, we’re going to have to pay for any increased longevity. It’s like Electronic Arts adopted Nintendo’s “game-as-service” model but made us pay for it where Nintendo didn’t. With these expansions being so potentially crucial, it’s not unfair to suggest that the real MSRP of Battlefront is $110, rather than $60.

Except we don’t even know if the other half of the game will even be worth that much money.

Eesh. After reading the previous reviews this sounds exactly like what I was worried about... I think I'll pass on this game for just a bit.

PC Gamer - 72/100

Ultimately, the best rewards in Battlefront are the emotional ones: the thrill of weaving a speeder bike through the trees on Endor, seeing the twin suns of Tatooine, or watching Imperial walkers stomp across the Hoth snowfield. The addition of extra modes, weapons, heroes, and maps might improve the core shooter experience and give it some much-needed depth, but when it costs as much as the base game to get them, you have to question whether you’re willing to spend £100 to find out.

I tried to get through the video but he makes his point in the first minute then just repeats it over and over so I gave up. He doesn't feel the game is worth his money, but its clear he has no understanding what it costs to make games. He wants more game for less money, I think we all do but some of understand the reality of economics.
