Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

What if it's a trilogy of full-fledged JRPGs that end up being far bigger than the original FFVII actually is from a content POV? A remake could still offer far more exploration even with a world map removed if they just expand on the cities & overworld areas into being something that are of more realistic scale instead of a giant Cloud running 100km/h on a relatively empty miniature world map. What if Midgar or other cities are bigger & properly explorable in this remake? You're thinking Telltale episodic when all they said is that they will divide it into more than one game. That doesn't mean each part will be 5 hours max with structure even more linear than FFXIII or anything.
Again, the problem is that it's a REMAKE of an existing game. We already have "all the content". We don't need filler crap to stretch a single game into THREE. See "the Hobbit".

I see this as a double-edged sword though. If everyone does this, then SE will see the episodes not selling well and could cut down the budget & do less than they originally planned, when in reality many were just waiting to play it all in one go.
Perhaps, yeah. I'm a sucker though, so if they release special editions (which I'm sure they will) I'll probably order and let it sit there on my shelf.

I'm not saying they did it during the PS1 era, I'm saying their success after that era started the transformation. And was 2004 really the first time they did that? I feel like I had to go into one of their little cinema rooms before that.
the mega theatre crap is on management and publicity though, not the developers.

Wada is the reason for that if anything.

Don't know how it's going to pan out...

But if they had some decent designers on staff, they'd be able to make the world map work out quite easily...

I mean the original had the worldmap gated as hell anyway - through the discovery of vehicles and chocobos, etc.

Those gates would serve as natural stopping points for new episodes.

Moreover, here's where the real draw is; each episode can revisit the previous sections and update the monster map and sprinkle in some extra events, providing players a reason to revisit previous areas.

Similarly, once the whole world map is open via Airship, you can still have new events that unleash updated monsters in subsequent episodes - e.g. Emerald and Ruby weapons come out in the last episode.

I'm generally ok with it being multi-part, especially if they can create a deeper experience. I always wanted to explore parts like Midgar, Gold Saucer, Cosmo Canyon or Junon and all the other stuff more and if that means splitting the game into more parts, I'm fine with it. What I fear - and probably most other people here - is a disconnect as we had with FF13. The splits just didn't make sense and I still don't fully understand what happend between 13-2 and LR (I will probably never finish the game, too, can't stand the fighting system). I also fear that we won't be able to travel across the whole world in the last entry. This was a hugh part of my FF7 experience.

As of now, I give them the benefit of the doubt, altough their track record suggests otherwise.

Oh good call. My Level5 hatred blocked it out. Lol.

Ni No Kuni? Lot's of HD towns and all that shit.

Come to think of it,what Level-5 achieved with Ni No Kuni was really fucking impressive.

A fully complete visually varied and polished world.Maybe even the most beautiful in any RPG.

Maybe that Yokai watch money is helping with dev costs.Idk how they managed it.

Will they include Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children, etc, storylines as well?

You now, telling the whole story?

If not and its just FFVII story stretched out Hobbit style... Fuck that.

Also, Lightening will probably show up and Retcon the story.

Yeah, because SE has only the best of our interests in mind and not simply $... you do realize that we got FF13-2 and 13-3 ONLY because they were "easy to make", which translated to ca$h?

I mean, hey, if you want to go and read details into something like this and ignore actual game development hurdles and how game development has been getting progressively more expensive with each passing generation while ignoring how big of a game FF7 actually is, be my guest.

That's what most of everyone else seems to be doing as well.

lol

Trying to say Square-Enix basically can't afford to do a massive game is hysterical.

I guarantee you that Xenoblade X will have ten times the content than whenever this shit is released

Yikes. Way to miss the point and or not understand what I was saying. Continue on your tirade, don't let me stop you.

I don't even know anymore.

What year is it? Because I don't want to live in the times where video game development has become such shit.

Edit: actually, I'm fine with how the video game industry has developed. I'm not, however, fine with being teased like this and then gotten the news afterwards.

Game dev is much more expensive these days

That's exactly how I feel. The way SE has handled this, from fucking hiding the fact, to how they nonchalantly dropped it, in HALF A SENTENCE, like it's a mundane thing, shows how little they respect the fans.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. This isn't being done as a public service, it's a product for retail and they can make any way they see fit.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

You don't my point.

You do get my point.

I can't believe there are people here defending this and suggesting there's zero reason to be weary.

Of course episodic gaming isn't inherently bad. But are some of you seriously gonna sit here and suggest there's no reason to panic given how they've milked fans before? And how VII was one, self contained, epic experience where gutting it into pieces can easily run the risk of ruining that vibe?

Fuck that, this is some hype train obliteration shit right here.

Too good to be true..Knew it was too good to be True, 2 gud to Bee truuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!

FJUFOD"JFD:LIJ.

There was no way they could have pulled it off with that fidelity over the course of 70 hours. And it not being turn based means they have to come up with attack patterns for all the bosses Souls style, just adding insult to injury.

It should have been turn based, they might have had a chance to make it in a reasonable timeframe.

I've been a junior for over a year and a half. How long until I become a full member so I don't get looked down on as some kind of noob?

Member status requires 300 posts and 3 months or something like that. You only have 52 posts so it'll be a while. It's still kinda dumb though that people use Jr. status as an argument to shut down people.

It's one of the two classic meltdown posts from the thread where FFXIII being ported to the 360 was announced, the other being Amir0x's "The era of Sony is DONE" post. It has since become a major GAF meme that was even referenced in Persona 4.

Thanks! I never knew about that.

I was just thinking.. didn't Nomura (or someone else) mentioned the game being more story oriented than the original anyway.

I could see them cutting a lot of location / bestiary to have something more linear and narrative. In the end it would indeed look more like a Kingdom Heart than something else.

Witcher 3 is arguably bigger than FF7 world. This can be done. Episodic sucks.

Of course it can be done.

Question is, does Square think it's worth the investment of such a massive AAA project when they can do this episodic crap and probably make just as much money from die hard fans.

You sound like a perfect corporate tool. "We don't care that you are diehard fans that made us big and buy our shit. We only care about even MORE cash and control. Don't have internet? Buy an 360!" :X

Honestly the last old style scaled jrpg I can think of made as an AAA game is Blue Dragon. Even Lost Odyssey had a lot of cutbacks like FFXIII did. Not as linear tho.

Ni no Kuni.
Which is one of the reasons why I liked it so much. It was a total package RPG in an era where everything was gimped in one way or another.

First part will end with you leaving Midgar.
More likely then not but I was hoping they tried to fit it all in 7 parts and keep a lot of the extras. First disc broken into four parts:

Midgar-Kalm flashback
Ranch - Prison (buggy)
Buggy - rocket town
Tiny Bronco - Ancient forest

Etc for disc two and three

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is actually coming out, and it could be coming out with everything intact, but episodically. Or it could be coming out altogether, but with other shit releasing in separate parts (things like Crisis Core, DoC, etc.)

This is actually happening, which nobody in their right minds thought it would, and people are complaining about the delivery method, lol. We're gonna find out more about it in just a couple of weeks, and people are just whining like babies over the the product that nobody really thought could even exist, existing in a potentially not perfect form. Boo hoo.
