Aha. So... no counter? Waht do you think?

I don't think they will do anything, they are probably making money compared to last year and are happy with it. The division finally needs to do that, they cant keep losing money just to be number 1. I mean it's not like they are getting stomped in NA compared to WW.

Sure, but they were dominating last gen in US and UK, and this gen it's the only markets that work for them as long as they stay competitive. So, no reaction should widen the gap drastically.
I agree that profit on console sales is nice, but if in the end your sales underperform and you sell less, this also leads to less sales on games and subscriptions (and MAUs of course). Plus, it puts them in a bad position for marketing deals and exclusives.
Can they really be happy with this?

Their benchmark is the PS2?!? Wowww that's fucking crazy. PS2 had some insane sales figures in November. I assume this is WW? I wonder if they mean revenue or HW sales.

Edit: reading the article they are definitely talking about WW sales. Also surprising to hear that Germany is their biggest market in EU. They also think 2.5 million year 1 sales of PS VR would be a success so that gives us some insight into what their expectations are for the platform.

Except there are more than one interpretation of that PR.
Yours : (A, B and C) ----> D
Theirs: (A) and (B) and (C--->D), in other words A and B has nothing to do with C or D.

100% agree with you. Data about WW Xbox Live sales and Gold subscription have no connection with the statement about US sales.

Yo dawg, I heard you like to have two SKU on the top 3

Also surprising to hear that Germany is their biggest market in EU.

PS4 has between 30 to 50 Games in the top 100 weekly in Germany. Xbox is dead, 95% of the time less games than PC in the Top 100.
There were times some months back were NO Xbox Game was in the Top 100.

You have good points, but it's not like their sales are complete sh!t. And while Sony continues to outsell them even during the Holiday season in the US (I know nothing is finalized yet, but signs are pointing that way); they still likely sold pretty well too.

They will still likely get the vast majority of non-Japanese third party software (which in a way is kinda of a moot point since they sell like shit on XB platforms anyway).

Yes, they won't get many marketing deals/3rd party exclusives, but this gen is going that route already.

I know his job is PR, etc. but I hope there was at least some sincerity that Phil Spencer said they are going to invest in 1st party output over those deals anyways (not so much for sales, just selfishly as a gamer want to see more games/variety). I'm not holding my breath, but maybe they will do that to try to maintain a solid install base and brand recognition (in the US/UK) going into next gen.

They already know this gen is "lost" for them.

Not a surprise really, Xbox One is much more competitive in UK, so can't be the biggest european market for PS4 and I believe Germany surpassed France.

Germany has traditionally been very PC centric. That's why this is surprising to me. The surprise had nothing to do with the performance of XB1 it had more to do with the unexpected revelation that German gamers are buying consoles at all let alone at a rapid enough pace to make them Sony's biggest market in EU.

Zuckenberg talked to his investors that he expect "slow burn" sales of CK1, with few hundred thousand units being sold shortly after launch.

Sony obviously aims at higher sales because they have established PS4 userbase that can use PSVR with plug-and-play ease.

Sony is talking "worldiwde" in their PR, the US November NPD is lost then?

This is a weird way to see this I think.

Why wouldn't results world wide be the main focus? Doing well world wide is a lot more impressive than doing well in one country - even if that country is an important market in and of itself - isn't it?

Remember this is BF not November, so don't act too impressed about it beating the PS2 in one day.

Also judging from the PR, we still don't know who won Black Friday.

Of course, but Sony showed a while ago that they didn't draw a line in the sand when it came to sales and their target market. Their Market is worldwide, and they have done very well in that market!

From the article:
The PS4 has become the fastest-selling home console ever, exceeding the early performance of the PlayStation 2, which went on to sell more units than any other console over its 12-year life.

Is that true at this point? I thought that PS4 was still behind Wii by a couple of million units as far as the "fastest selling console" title goes. Either way, this is an incredible turnaround from last gen in regard to control of total market share.

Until september 2015 PS4 is behind (Sold-in)

Wii- 34.55m
PS4- 29.30m

Wii had an amazing Q4 in 2008 with 10.42m sold, so PS4 will remain behind.

The writter of the article forgot about Wii. Well you can't blame him, consumer also forgot about the console after a few years.

Just to clarify, IHS predicted a total of 2.5M headsets would be sold in the first year, with Sony selling the most. House responded that he found their numbers neither unrealistic or disappointing. But I haven't seen the report, so I dunno how much they predicted for each headset specifically. Also, House could be predicting PSVR will sell much more than IHS predict. /shrug

Then do yourself a favor, and call your English teacher and ask them how commas work. Or maybe try your mom, after your English teacher reveals themselves to be another Sony sympathizer.

Dude, stop being a dick. This is not how you talk to people. MAU is a forgiving god but you are pissing him off.

2nd highest dig share month 1 behind TKK apparently.

Wow. Impressive. ~30% was where most reasonable estimates were capping the split so it seems like performed a bit better than people had expected. I wonder how much the split will drop by the end of December. I doubt it would stay flat.

When should we start the invocations in order to make sure the great MAU prophet, he whose name can only be whispered in empty and cold silent rooms, thy Earthly voice NPD-Mulcairn, in order for him to appear at the hour of the great Thursday Apocalypse?

More seriously, I hope that George Mulcairn will be with us this upcoming Thursday for the results.

I totally agree with you, People here tend to overemphasize NPD sales and ignore the rest of the world. Thats why we had a lot of posters who thought that 360 demolished PS3 in sales.

Again, there is a counter. As I said its not in the same date frame its later. You may not hear anything about it for several days.

Interesting.

So it's looking likely that the PS4 will get roughly a week at least to the price point all by itself, though the XB1 might have the price last through the tail end of the month.
