Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

The only impression I get from Nomura's open world comments is that he doesn't cares for the current fad with massive and to-scale world map design.

And if that's so, I agree with him. The FF series never had those nor did it ever needed those to work and be fun to play.

But to interpret that not liking extreme freedom means that the game will have extreme linearity, well, you just need a bit of imagination. There's plenty of middle ground inbetween. The clssic FF world maps were a middle ground. FFXII's map design was a middle ground. Etc.

So they split the game and dont put world like ff 15 or even 12 ? then why the fuck you split the game then ?

Tabata , finish ff 15 and take the helm of this again, Nomura is a joke to me at this point.

Where are you reading this? Because it sounds like that's what we're gonna get.

I am worried about the open world comment. I want to believe it will be for the better but ......=/

We already know the journey and locations are split between different games, so they are more concerned with the density of each location than making it a seamless open world like FF15. Makes sense.

For FF15 anyway, a lot of that is populated with empty speed tree stuff, atleast for the open locations, and not actual things in the environment to interact with. To make a densely packed environment is much more difficult nowadays

Calm down. Take some deep breaths.

lol. You do realize that SE doesn't even consider FF15 to be a traditional open-world/sandbox map either, right?

I hope I didn't dream this, but wasn't there an old interview for Versus XIII where someone talked about testing a flyable airship for the first time in almost full scale and one of the devs remarked how amazing it was to see and 'It felt like Final Fantasy is finally back' or something along those lines? I can dig up certain quotes online about the airship but nothing with the dev reaction part.

But that quote used to get me so hyped and made me think that I would no longer have to worry about this kind of thing anymore when they finally decide to remake VII, I was much more concerned about the crossdressing sequence and the other charming moments of the game being cut out instead, which funnily enough they've rectified they aren't removing completely. But then I suppose there's a reason Versus XIII never got off the ground and I know a lot of people are concerned with that happening to VII, but it's still a huge bummer if that is what they're indicating they are doing.

I suppose like has already been mentioned the actual scale of the world map was very much an illusion and was actually very linear A to B stuff, you could backtrack on Disk 1 but there wasn't really much to accomplish by doing so until you had the airship and revisited places on Disk 2/3 which could be done like FFX. But i'd still be upset for sure and that would definitely be the biggest thing to make me stick with the original as my definitive version. That and depending on how the Materia system is handled now they've changed the battle system to action based.

I wonder with this remake if one of the new things added for the final part will do something with that secret ending in dierge of cerberus thats related to genesis. I know most ppl dont like him but shit, i enjoyed his weirdness.

There was. And then some time down the line a successive interview spawned a "we decided we didn't like the PSone world map and avatar mechanic on this game after all" comment.

Any guesses on how the content will be broken up?

I feel like the first 6-10 hours of the game (all of Midgar) will basically be the 1st episode, since it's relatively easy to pull off because you spent most of your time in Midgar seeing the same 4 places and it was also very linear.

Then the remainder of the 1st disc after Midgar will be the 2nd episode.

The 3rd episode will consist of the entire 2nd CD.

And the fourth episode will be the all encompassing release that will allow you to grind, explore, breed Chocobos, and of course finish the game and defeat Sephiroth.

That's sort of how I see it playing out.

I recall that too, and it makes me very sad. Somewhere along the line, I believe starting at 10 (though just starting there) the staff at Square lost touch of what made a Final Fantasy feel like a FF.

12, despite the love received by some gaffers, felt like trash to me. No connection to FF other than some visual novelties. The story, the characters, everything felt off and wrong. 13 was an even bigger offended.

I needed a world map that I could explore later in the story. This sounds like it won't be the case here. God forbid they decide to go with the FFX route =/

My hype is slowly dying with each new info that they are releasing.

Mine too man, mine too :( So very sad about all of this. I think at some point we all just have to realize the FF7 remake we want isnt happening, in its place is an action rpg episodic story being made to appeal to more modern taste that arent completable with many of us older gamers. Its sad, but it is what it is.

I just wish the PS4 release of FF7 featured redone high resolution backgrounds or something to make the old game a little easier to digest.

All I can play it on now is the Vita without feeling like I'm staring at a mess of pixels.

Sadly this is what I fear. I feel like they're using the first part to get acquainted with the engine and designing the game, so they don't have to tackle the "open" aspect of the game right away.

I'm hoping we actually only get 3 parts and the first part is gonna be all the way to Junon. This way they separate each episode by continent, but who knows.

Fingers crossed that Midgar itself is pretty damn big and explorable.

There could still be a lot of exploration in the regions that matter. There's a lot of waste involved with XV's model.

I'm speculating there will there will still be an airship to fly around the globe. You just can't land it anywhere.

Im hoping we see a sort of "above the clouds" airship system, so you can fly around, see landmarks under you, chase the weapon, but if you try landing in a small/secret area (like Knights of the Round Island) you'll get Cid saying something like "Woah!! Can't land their Booboo!".

That would solve alot of issues and still make the highwind fun.

some stuff from Dengeki
sorry for poor translation as always.

-The game will be fully voiced, so for those who weren't in Advent Children will need to be casted.
-The date event will be fully voiced as well of course
-The social situation has changed since the original game's release, so they have to be very careful with how they recreate the events. Stuff like Honeybee...
-Regarding the map, they can't comment on it yet but Nomura is not obsessed with with so-called open world or sandbox style. Nomura is more focused on the environment and how gameplay affects the environment.
-They want to put as many of the popular mini-games from the original. They are not sure if they will include every single one of them though..
-As for the development, they feel they just got done with the initial stage. There is still a long way to go.
-Can't comment on releasing it on the FF7 20th anniversary (January 31st, 2017)
-Nomura has KH 2.8 and World of Final Fantasy for 2016, so the next info on FF7 Remake will probably be after those titles are done.

Changing ANYTHING Mukki does is an insta non buy for me.

I would have been much more comfortable with a turn-based battle system. I am not against what they have shown but I am not automatically assuming it will be fun to play either.

They never claimed it was a hybrid. It's just very strategic by ARPG standards.

Agreed. It could also be a way to find some easter eggs.

@$!@#%@#%^ @%@#% @#^@#^@#^^ F#%%#%# ^#^#$^#$^

You know, reading all that reminded me: the cursing, especially among Cid and Barret, will most likely be gone due to the fact censoring would be strange if fully voiced.

So much for the "fucking pizza" line.

Edit:

He'll probably just say "damn pizza".

I'm okay with that.

That will probably be the case, which is fine. It's always jarring to play FF7 due to said lines.

It's not like they cursed in the first place, they simply used some rough words. Cursing doesn't really exist in Japanese, at least not like we think of it in English.

Let's assume there is some world exploration. Should the game let you fast travel?

Nah. Keep the pacing and world design similar to the original. I like my JRPG more linear and handcrafted in nature in terms of narrative and gameplay progression, with opportunities to side track along the way for side quests or hidden areas. I don't want open world exploration, tons of map icons to chase after, fast travel, minimap, all that sort of things found in Western games.

The original FF7 had a great world map and it wasn't open world by alot of today's standards. It'll be fine. Im sure this world will be massive.

what are you talking about you should be able to kill everyone in 7th heaven if you want to and the guards will realistically react to that and put you in prison because player agency and immersion

I'm about half-way through FFVII HD and the whole worry about the Remake being open-world or linear doesn't actually matter a whole lot at all. FFVII gives off a pretty false sense of exploration throughout most of the game, because you are extremely limited as to where you can go and what you can see, so your path is extremely linear.

It isn't until you get the Highwind that you're able to fully explore the entire world, which is why I think my prediction of how they'll release the episodes seems to make the most amount of sense.

This.

People tend to forget that FF games are linear as hell for like 60-70% of the game.

That's the problem and a big reason why they are claiming this game has to be split up. You can't just fake a game like this where you only have a few illustrated rooms in a town that you run back and forth through. Every areas has to be a 3 dimensional world that you can explore and interact with.

The original FF7 got away with a lot of shit because of the times, that made the journey seem far more expansive than it actually was. But translating that into modern day technology is going to be far more work if your trying to expand on things as well.
