Speaking about Zhuge, he said he said he would be happy to fund the Media Create White Paper for 2015.

So Mother 3 booted Xenoblade X from the eshop top 20. This puts everything in that list over 25k at least.

is there any chance sony will begin supporting vita again due to its popularity in japan? i know it's a no, but still. gotta be a better chance than winning the powerball right?

dragon quest builders should have some huge sales in japan right??

Combining Dragon Quest with minecraft, which is also popular in Japan.

It should still sell well, around 600k units - 100k on PS3, 300k on PSV and 200k on PS3 (or something along those lines). It's true that the game is expensive, but the genre is becoming more and more popular, to the point that people might still want to pay a premium price given the brand attached.

The game strikes me as Square Enix's most interesting bet from an industry perspective.

Obviously things like FF15 are big, but the debate is more around "How will this predictable product sell in the current market conditions?" than trying a new spin on a genre with very few entries in Japan and a rather different business model.

We don't get a lot of this kind of thing anymore.

Impressive numbers for Rhythm Heaven. Really didn't expect the best of to sell that much.

I wasn't expecting numbers almost on par with the Wii game. I was expecting something more around 500k units, so pleasently surprised. I wonder whether the IP could still reach the height of the DS entry (through a future iteration) - but I guess a consistent 700k seller is still a quite good investment for Nintendo.

The Best+ has been/is interesting to follow. For a while it seemed like the gap with Fever was going to be bigger. Great performance, impressive legs.

Dengeki Sales: Week 52, 2015 (Dec 21 - Dec 27)

Dengeki Sales Archive
2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014

46./67. [PSV] Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version (Namco Bandai Entertainment) {2015.07.09} - 4.239 / 112.791

For reference this was the last time it charted in Dengeki:

49./37. [PSV] Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version (Namco Bandai Entertainment) {2015.07.09} - 1.289 / 94.043 (-30%)

Assuming M.Create/Famitsu track similarly, it should be well above 100k on all trackers, so I guess that settles that.

I mean, it doesn't make the absolute number any better, but it always seemed bizarre to me that people would assume this version wouldn't have any out-of-chart legs while nearly every other version does.

25./35. [PS4] Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.12.03} - 7.472 / 31.405 (-7%)

I have no idea what to make of this. At least it's having somewhat legs.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
50./39. [3DS] Picross 3D 2 (Nintendo) {2015.10.01} - 3.922 / 100.886 (-41%)

Between this and the fact that it was the 10th best selling retail game on the eShop in 2015, above Dragon Quest VIII, makes me think Picross 3D 2 isn't that far from the first game's LTD numbers (169,106 according to Japanltdrank, so Famitsu - different tracker I know, but the difference between them shouldn't be that much for this game).

[WIU] Splatoon (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} - 63.356 / 1.135.874 (-43%)
[WIU] Super Mario Maker (Nintendo) {2015.09.10} - 58.000 / 737.472 (-47%)
[WIU] Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo) {2014.05.29} - 10.383 / 1.147.539 (-13%)

looking at those numbers, one would think Wii U is dominating Japan :\

Taiko Vita out of stock in Japan since December.
Dragon Ball, J-Star VS, Miku F2, One Piece Musou 3, World Trigger, FIFA15(yes, 15) all have stock problems. The sell price of FIFA15 Vita is higher than FIFA16 PS4 in Amazon Japan now.

30./47. [3DS] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (Square Enix) {2015.08.27} - 5.344 / 868.738 (-7%)

Nice legs for DQVIII on 3DS. The fanbase is obviously there so it'd be interesting to see how DQXI will perform.

I mean, it doesn't make the absolute number any better, but it always seemed bizarre to me that people would assume this version wouldn't have any out-of-chart legs while nearly every other version does.

Of course it would have some out-of-chart legs - but on top of disappointing total sales, legs were poor compared to all previous entries: Taiko PSV FW ratio is 36% (according to Dengeki, at least); previous Wii U entries had 10% and 15% respectively; 3DS entries had 11% and 24%.

50./39. [3DS] Picross 3D 2 (Nintendo) {2015.10.01} - 3.922 / 100.886 (-41%)

Yeah, Picross 3D 2 is definitely a good seller; it should have a longer life than the first entry too, assuming Nintendo wants to shift some demand on the eShop thanks to some digital sale.

lol

1. You're saying they're out of stock in Japan just because Amazon.jp? You can't extrapolate like this.
2. The demand of these games is practically 0 (maybe Taiko is the only exception). So it makes no difference if they're sold out or not.

Weren't people arguing it still hadn't passed 100k within the last week? That suggests they didn't believe there were any out-of-chart legs and it was still at its 88-94k from when it left the chart.

Also, while the 3DS point is a legitimate one, I don't think the WiiU one is particularly good, since the previous entries on that console had shocking FW sales. Of course Vita version is going to have lower % legs if it's selling like 3-4x more in the FW :p (legs are still lower regardless, but you get the point). Hence why WiiU versions had better legs than 3DS versions despite massive difference in actual numbers.

In the end what really matters are the LTD sales no?

What we learned there is that the total audience is in the same ballpark than Wii U (180k or the first Taiko Wii U, PSV could end up around 150k?), but the Vita has a bigger dedicated audience that buy the game first week, shocking news.

One thing I noticed is that no mainline YW game entered the chart during holidays - this likely means that the maximum sales potential has been hit, and Level-5 should work in retaining the most possible sales. YW Busters was mainly selling to existing fanbase.

It doesn't matter whether people thought it had legs or not; latest known numbers had the game below 100k; but the point wasn't in the 100k mark - since it's not quite relevant in the debate. Also, the first 3DS Taiko game had a 11% FW / LTD ratio opening at 63k units. The second DS game has a 8% ratio starting from 60k units - Taiko is known of having extremely good legs regardless the first week of sales. Of course, PSV installed base constrained the sales potential (same reasoning with the Wii U). The only interesting thing is to see where Taiko 2016 will land and how it will perform.

Amusing. PS4 sold more last week than XB1 since launch. I don't think I've seen a console be such a crushing failure before. Was the 3D0 even this bad?

Why?
Vita and PS4 have both sold more software than the WiiU this year.

For example, because Wii U was able to impose a successful new IP - the best-selling new home IP in Japan since Wii Sports. Or perhaps because it had 2 games in the 2015 Top 10. Of course, we know that Wii U has software sales concentrated towards few heavy hitters while PS4 and PSV mainly survive thanks to a bunch of <200k sellers.

I think my post was pretty clear.
I said looking at those numbers, not at other data.
It is pretty strange for such a failing console with low install base and no third party support being able to get those results in terms of software.
it was a comment about how impressive some (few, of course) Wii U titles are able to be notwithsanding everything

looking at those numbers, one would think Wii U is dominating Japan :

Sony should start to make bundles so sw sales would look better

Or just release 10 games on their system and avoid publishers to make games on them so those 10 games would sell like hot cakes

WiiU is in the same situation N64 was, a bunch of first party titles which sells for months and anything else

so in the same way your opinion doesn't matter
taiko V has a tie-ratio less than 50% and you know that this kind if things rarely happen on Sony platform

And you also know very well that a low tie-ratio means long legs, so I kindly ask you to stop this boring crusade about taiko vita flopped and taiko WiiU doing "nicely" cause numbers say both titles had good long sales and you can't compare sales between 3DS and Wiu and vita (different installed base, if you don't know the reason)

A bunch of amazing first party titles. And that's why i'm a happy Wii U owner this gen.

This is a stupid point I've seen repeated several times recently. It sure helped #FE right? Oh and it had a bundle! Surely it must have sold millions.

Actually, I've always said Wii U Taiko games sold terribly (bar the first one maybe)...?

Have I said that the Wii U is dominating, LOL?
Some of the Wii U sw sales are impressive, that's the simple truth.
And probably other publisher should take some note, as Nintendo should on other field. In fact I didn't praise the Wii U at all, with my post, as you probably understood.

And it's not that releasing few games or bundling them is the right solution to get those impressive sales, in fact many Wii U games bombed harder than hard.

I'm sorry if this somehow hurt you, but Splatoon, Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8 sales ARE impressive for being home console titles in Japan, not only limited to the Wii U situation. And my comment pointed out that, and only that.

Nintendo is the top publisher in the japanese market since the eighties.
How could you think that bundled software or the scarcity of game releases could be the main causes?

1 million bundled copies of Splatoon. No one likes the game, Nintendo just force people to buy it and inflate their software numbers I guess.

Bringing up bundles that cost the same as buying a stand alone + game is kind of a hilariously dumb way to dismiss a game's sales as artificially inflated...

Also it's not like Nintendo is the only one doing bundles, it's a common practice among all manufacturer.
