Windows Phone 8.1 |OT| Update 1

Apparently leaving the insider program through the phone app now reverts the phone back to receiving production builds, which is really good (that way you can also get FW updates without resetting).

However, that's part of the latest app update and the app hasn't updated for me. If I open the app it tells me to update to the latest version - but there's no update available.

ffs.

Not really a windows phone issue but a question if anyone knows.

I have a ton of music on OneDrive. In groove music on the web everything shows that I expect. In the iOS app it seems to have stopped updating a few months ago. I''ve logged out and back in and still don't see the new additions? Suggestions?

Yeah I read about the app update but nothing on my end.
This update situation is very weird. Guess I back out of the program for now.

haha well ya. I was being sarcastic on my first post. I guess it didn't seem so obvious did it lol.

But ya I know its ridicules. But honestly this year its make or brake for Windows Phone. I am 100% positive if they cant pump out quality OS updates/apps and phones this year than that is it. Satya seems like a guy who wont support product that show no sign of growth.

Yeah, and this year they have nothing holding them back, they don't need to create an unified platform from scratch anymore, they just need to improve it, and only need to do that once and it will be available everywhere.

I'm expecting this year to be fully loaded on features on both mobile and PC.

Just got off an 11 hour flight, during which Spotify refused to start. Select the app, either from start or app list and the phone just clears the screen (only shows background and navigation buttons). Seems I'm still at the start screen as if I press where outlook should be it starts up.

Only spotify behaving this way.

Got another flight soon, then home and test reinstall of the app, or updating of OS. But by god those were some boring 11 hours.

I never put screen protectors on my phone before but I just put an anti glare one on my 950 and it's pretty awesome. From mumbi.
I also like how the screen feels now, ymmv

Dammit I'm literally split down the middle when it comes to picking up this 950 XL. 50% of me says DO IT!!! COME BACK!!! The other 50% part of me says F this thing keep your crappy 6S+ and revist at a later date!!!

No ad block though.

true, but that's never really been an issue with me on this phone yet. I'm sure it will be in due time, as adding it to the iPhone (from memory) seemed to have had an effect on the percentage of random sites that severely slow down the browser.

If you're at 50% and with an 6s+, I'd stay put and see what the rest of the year brings. Then you can feel very happy when you replace it as opposed to mostly happy now and little cash-deprived later.

Or if you've got the expendable income COME JOIN THE LOVE TRAIN

I'm holding out with my 1520 until whatever comes this year.

I'm back baby! Just have to activate the nano sim.

Well my Android detour was brief. I liked it, but the contacts annoyed me as did the wifi issues. I always wanted a new Lumia, just wasn't economically feasible.

edit: Ill give my 950 impressions later.

That was quick, lol. I was just catching up to the thread, saw your previous post and was about to comment with some advice when I saw this post. Welcome aboard. One piece of advice, get a case/screen protector asap, build quality isn't typical Nokia Lumia level at all. Starting to see scratches on my screen, grrr.

Yeah. Wouldn't have happened if the trade wasn't available. Doh, I hate using screen protectors.

Since the sim1 is defective, wonder if the MS store would swap me for a new one.

As someone who used to create html email newsletters, the combination of a 1440p screen with the Word rendering engine is making me really sad. Text gets blown up to be readable but images stay their own size, so a 50x50px icon is practically invisible. Maybe I should just make a big Word only button to take you to the browser because the mail app does support VML

No one can stay away from WP, no matter how hard they try.

Apart from Brot, but he's desperate to return and only his stubbornes is keeping him away.

well, reinstalling the app worked. But now I've noticed my authenticator apps, for mail and my bank have both started to behave the same way. Select them and nothing happens other than the screen showing my background.
Man I don't want to have to re-do all my authenticators again...

Get a tempered class protector.

And yeah, you should get it changed.

I'm having trouble with the Groove App. It comes up and exits immediately. I tried powering it off and on again but same issue. I don't see any way to uninstall App. So I guess hard reset might be my only option left?

I was able to resolve this issue with this suggestion from reddit:

Edit: I fixed it on my phone doing the following: Went in to Store, searched for "groove music pass", pressed "try for free" (all though i have the pass all ready), then i got the option to "Launch Groove". And then i launched again as normal. Opening from tile also works again.

All is well with Groove again.

There's no good hardware on the market. And with good, I mean phones that don't suck and/or support wireless charging. The Lumia 950 line clearly sucks for the price and on the Android side I got only Samsung left, since LG is going full Metal with the G5 and Sony is too fucking stubborn to put wireless charging into their phones.

Now, to be perfectly honest, I still don't believe that I'm actually going to end up buying one, but I see no alternative right now. Like I said in the Android thread, all I can do is hope that the S7 bombs like the S6 and I can get one in Q3 for around 400 bucks. That would be great. I'm super casual too, so degradation and battery life shouldn't be an issue either.

Why do you find wireless charging to be such a big deal? Instead of plugging in a cord you sit it on a slab. Is that difference really enough to determine your phone choice?

Just disgusting. The version of Outlook on iOS and Android is using Accompli stuff and no more Word engine, correct? Because then there's still a chance they can bring this over. I want to believe we can finally put this crap behind us.

What would you consider to be a fair price for the 950?

Absolutely.

I know that it's really stupid and limits my choice immensely, but I find fiddling with cables and cords really annoying, now that I'm used to not to do it anymore. I charge my phone on my desk at work and night stand at home. I always thought that having that USB cable laying around is ugly and horrible. Instead I put it on the pad and pick it up whenever. Wireless charging is just such an elegant solution that I really don't want to miss it anymore. That's why I was super pissed, when the Nexus designers said that they left out wireless charging in the 5X, because now there's USB Type-C and it charges so fast that Qi charging was obsolete. I'd take wireless charging over quick charging any day.

I haven't used wireless charging in a while--has it gotten any faster?

50% charge in 30 mins w/USB-C > ease of use wireless charging, but I do miss how simple wireless charging is.

I'm not sure if it has gotten any faster. I'm using the same phone for 18 months, so I wouldn't notice any advancements in that area. But I read on XDA that it charges faster over Qi, if you use a beefier charger. But charging speed it not a concern for me, because I'm not on the go all the time and I don't use the phone that much throughout the day. When I arrive at home around 8 pm, I have 5-15% left and it charges fast enough over night. When I know that I go to the gym after work, I charge it at work around afternoon and I have more than enough juice left for the rest of the evening.

I know that it's really subjective and stupid, but as long as I can buy a good or decent smartphone with wireless charging, I don't see any reason not to buy one over one that doesn't have it.

No it's not any faster, it's infuriatingly slow now that I'm used to the quick charging.

There's phones that support quick wireless charging (the S6's, I think), but you need a different wireless charger for that.

I don't know that the 950 supports quick wireless charging. I suspect it doesn't, otherwise they'd have released a new wireless charger for it.

wireless charging is a big deal for me only because it's really really nice while in the car. I have a mounted holder with QI charging, so it can be my navigator and charge as well without me mucking around with wires. Really nice in the pitch dark at 5 in the morning whilst heading off to the gym.

That being said, it's not integral, just a nice feature.

The quality of the charger and cable can make a difference.

Not sure what the app uses on other platforms. I'm not going to hold my breath for any significant changes to the win10 app, no matter how many #fixoutlook campaigns we have going Microsoft hasn't shown they really care about this.

Sorta related, if you open outlook.com in Edge there is a button at the top to get the outlook app. This sends you to Google Play.

The MS store will let me do a swap, but I have to wait until they get more in stock. Hopefully they will honor that when I come back.

It is a warranty exchange. If you want, why don't you ask a manager to write on the receipt that it's supposed to be exchanged?

Btw, who here has the Blu One X? Considering a Vivo Air LTE to try something small.

I have a life One X and love it. Bought it at $99 but recommend it at $149. Backplate is creaky but feels good, screen is excellent even under sunlight. The fake metal frame and plastics feel cheap. Performance is excellent, only had one issue with lag when I had a bad imgur app hijack the phone.

I don't have a receipt since it was a trade unfortunately. The guy I talked too didn't seem to concerned. Hopefully it happens, but if not it isn't the end of the world.

Forgot to ask how long he thought it would take to get back into stock.

I'm glad you can merge the text and phone tiles of the two sims.

Bought the black cuz the delivery date was sooner.

Rear camera quality is between the 635 and the 830. FFC can is pretty impressive though; there's a front facing flash to accompany the premium feeling 5mp cam.
I'm thinking of the Vivo Air LTE instead.

I want a small phone. Or I could go back to my 920.

16gb with no microSD slot might be a limitation but otherwise it's a toss up. Newer mediatek CPU in the life One X might be slightly better but it also charges slower than the Qualcomm chip in the vivo air.

I used like 3 GB when I had my Priv.

I have an OTG usb drive and also stream Spotify a lot. I could upload my music to onedrive and use that since I have unlimited data.

I don't know, the 1520 is fine but sometimes I think it is too big.
