The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Heres my issue with the visuals.

Of course we all knew that it was being shown on a high end PC but that being said so far this generation what we have been getting on consoles is the equivalent of HIGH settings on the PC. That makes it so that the visual leaps between the PC reveals and the Console reveal isn't such a massive difference.

This looks like Medium settings at best and some Low settings at worst. It doesn't even really look like the same game.

You haven't been getting high, you've been getting a mix of low-high depending on the game.

Videos are actually pushing me to get the game sooner than later. Really been wanting a game like this on PC for a bit.

Count me in!

Can you remember how big they praised & advertised their new engine ?
Now it looks "good".

We have yet to see the PC version ^^
Because like the above analysis from DF showed, even they were to do that it would likely still look different than what they showed.
Why does what happened with watch dogs have a bearing on this game? If we are going to talk about a downgrade of the PC version in comparison to the original footage, we should wait for the actual PC footage and not presume.

And yes, if you assumed the xb1 version of the game would look like the original PC showing, then it was "downgraded".

kinda mixed... I think still positive but it's... different than what I thought.

that first trailer interested me purely because of the cover gunplay. especially, the visuals and sound effects. but in that regard, it doesn't look that great anymore. visually, the shootouts don't really impress like the first trailer did.

that said, the level design and ability design does look like it'll make rather 'fun' cover shootouts to play -- just kinda disappointed it doesn't have 'fun' cover shootouts to look at.

it's a lot more of a rpg than I expected, too. one one hand, the stupid zerg AI in that jackfrags video looks very MMO esque lol =p which hurts my original interest in the game.

but... gotta admit, i'm interested in a different way because I didn't expect so much rpg progression and especially base progression. that said, I was expecting a much more free roam or non-linear game... less like Destiny, more like Star Wars Galaxies or Shadowbane? I just mean, huge city, and everyone can create their own faction and choose their own small little base -- I dislike in MP games where everyone plays the same 'person' (so everyone is a spec ops with the exact same base). but that does help the quality too (since the devs can focus on one thing).

so, very different than what I expected. I was hoping for much better looking (and visceral, action-packed) cover gunplay and maybe more free roam base building/faction creation. instead, it looks a lot like Destiny.... but that's kinda interesting in a different way. so, still overall positive and interested, but definitely different than what I was hoping for.

So destiny but no aliens. 😕😐

As a casual player of Destiny who hops in once and awhile, the best thing about that game is really the cooperative nature that really highlights itself when you're playing with friends.

I've cleared the raid so many times but at least once every couple weeks me and my college buddies do a strike or a raid.

And that's the biggest problem I think Division has, a game that is so reliant on looting / missions / co-op play / friends etc., is pulling your friends away from Destiny.

Destiny with friends = really fun

Destiny with strangers = .....I should stop playing this game that I've already played too much of already...

And to be honest with you I think it'll be the same for The Division especially once you get passed the story campaign.

What was wrong with this HUD?

^i like when games don't have a hud minimap :(

especially anything with a survival or sort of bare bones/procure on site/subsistence theme hehe =p

Why would I presume that? Because it's Ubisoft and they've done it before

Are you not picking up on a pattern?

Furthermore, some of the changes could have also been made due to gameplay reasons. So even if a high-end PC could handle it, they likely opted out. For example the streets that had all those cars and clutter, they probably felt snappy cover navigation in the heat of combat became too cumbersome and clunky with all those objects in place, and felt it was necessary to cut back down on it. Getting caught up on environmental objects with a standard/limited FOV is incredibly annoying. So I wouldn't be surprised if they cut back on environmental objects for that reason.

Also let's not assume a massive downgrade until we can see better quality footage. Because even digital foundry said themselves (who played it in person) said that it was largely a target to the initial reveal. We are looking at the game via crappy youtube vids.

I can not wait for this game to release. Gonna have to get my game on with all the other games I have in my catalog because I'm not touching anything else for months when The Division comes out.

Yeah, but in a game like this? I get something like AC once you get familiar. Also, it's possible you can toggle it off.
not too sure hehe actually the more that it looks like Destiny, the more I agree it needs a hud minimap. was just thinking when it originally looked a bit like... i dunno, purely a survival shooter.

anyhow, like you said, toggle is good enough for me cuz i know my preferences are unique and a small minority :D

That's how I've mainly played it.
Consider it like a post apocalyptic Mass Effect type RPG and you might enjoy it.
But you can play co-op too and the enemies scale to suit that.

Cool, if the story is good I will probably enjoy it.

Downgrade?

You mean from a vertical slice of gameplay 3 years ago on hardware far exceeding specs that at least 85% of gamers don't have.

If you expect anything different from ANY game that long ago than you don't understand game development.

Downgrade?

Good. It might run acceptably on my PS4 instead of at 10 FPS which everyone would complain and get mad about because it runs like shit.

The only thing that could be bad about a downgrade is if the company is actively advertising a game up to release with footage that is not inidicative of the actual product.

From what I can tell. All the shots you're seeing are from the Xbox One. Also the likeliest worst version of the game. I can't complain.

not even close

I agree. The downgrade isn't that severe. Especially if we were to see footage of the xbox one version at better fidelity than youtube. Also, the reveal footage was likely the better looking areas in the game. We all know in all games, certain areas look better than others. Whereas this footage is complete user control. Imagine if I put together 15 minutes of footage on the lamest looking areas in Fallout 4, people would deem the game more shittier than it already it is.

The shooting at 1:00 to 1:03 made my heart sink.

That's a 20th level player unloading into a 20th level enemy, and its all just a bunch of numbers popping up. No solid effects on target, no flinching, no AI response. The enemy doesn't drop, and in fact only lost near half of his health bar.

This is exactly what I was worried about, and something that just doesn't fit with the Tom Clancy license.

Exactly. I keep explaining this to my friends over and over, but they don't understand.

"It's just a game!"

"It's an RPG!"

But good games--and good RPGs--have mechanics that make sense in the context of the world. In Mass Effect/Destiny/Borderlands, you have these bullet sponge enemies and damage stats, but they make sense in the world they reside in. They have their energy shields or their aliens or their monsters or whatever. In The Division, you have this realistic world, realistic graphics, realistic guns, realistic physics, realistic scenarios, realistic ballistics, the Tom Clancy name, but then all of a sudden you have to shoot half a clip into someone to kill them. Headshots result in yellow numbers/critical hits instead of a dead bad guy. These guys aren't running around in powersuits. They're thugs with hoodies.

The entire time I played the Alpha (5+ hours) I couldn't get into it. It's just a disconnect that kills my immersion (oh no! my immersion!) and I can't enjoy it. I want to stealth around (although you can't crouch), catching people off guard, taking them out with headshots, etc. I like to lose myself in games like these and this just shows its game hand too strongly for me. Doesn't mean its a bad game. Just that there is a dissonance there that I don't encounter in most games.

I also feel that there are ways to "Level Up" in more realistic RPGs without just turning up the dial on HP and Damage, and I wish The Division would have gone in that direction. I almost wish they would have gone all in and dialed up the science fiction elements. Maybe the virus makes people stronger? Maybe energy shields exist? Maybe they are enemies?

Everyone was a bullet sponge. I can see the appeal of this game, but the lack of headshot kills is unfathomable. Isn't this supposed to be Destiny-like?

Yeah, but what about us 15 percenters?

No this game is supposed to have an actual story.

Seriously, The Division is an RPG that can be played solo or in co-op up to 4 players. My main concern for The Division is the end game. The devs are aren't saying anything about it and it has set my alarm bells ringing.

Still day 1 if I enjoy the Beta, and those end game concerns are addressed before launch.

Are these previewers all paid off? I mean, sure the game could be great, but just the way they come across is that they collected a nice check on the side.

The game looks completely mindless as far as PvE is concerned which is a big disappointment. I'll wait for reviews and impressions before picking it up. Release date still in March?

I remember when I was complaining of bullet sponge and how it was most likely a vertical slice back in 2014, but now it seems worse lol

Ubisoft are just masters of animations. Gadgets look cool, love that detailed destruction especially on the car at the end with the bullet holes. Have they said this was shown on high end PC and what the lead platform is, to guess that PC version might get downgraded too?

Not a fan of these shooter RPGs where a headshot isn't an instant kill, but more of a critical hit (orange numbers). Look at that last dude before the heavy, run away from a headshot. Gives it a whiff of bullet sponge. Also, just weird seeing numbers flying off in such a photorealistic aesthetic.

Hit markers seem off, getting damage far away from body and doesn't seem like shots from the right side by allies.

Some delay in the hit reactions overall like still letting the previous animations end? Maybe signs this is another vertical slice like Rainbow Six Siege? Unless if people have had actual hands-on with these games.

Tatsuki's GIFs of the game from 2014 looked lovely...

Looking forward to the beta, I'm still very much on the fence.

Exactly

and this looks better then more or any TPS that's i've seen with this much stuff going on.

Also you're point about Fallout4 is a fact in that game. Right now people are doing piece meal comparisons and othesr are just being factious. Without seeing all version of the game in the same lighting, mood and all that. A clear side by side comparison.

Matter a fact, Destiny looks good but not this good everywhere. Since this will be a true open world i will have the luxury of taken in the atmosphere step by step. Never i'll wait for 1080p+ footage on pc and consoles rather then crappy YouTube video filter and otherwise bad captures of the game.

Uh uh last time people were in "chill out we haven't seen PC on ultra yet" mode it did not end well...

So? last time is last time. This time is this time. Regardless though I'd play the crap of this and I'm a graphics head but I'm going to play this game its going to be on the PC.

Bosses? No. Most fodder? Yes.
This is just like in Destiny where it all depends on the enemy, your weapon type, and your gear quality. Anyone expecting one hit kill headshots at low levels with lower quality weapons are completely out of touch with what these games are. In the Alpha it was absolutely possible to get sniper rifles possible of one hit kill headshots on some enemies. Starter weapons were pretty weak, and some weapons had stats leading to lower damage with insane recoil. Even still I would say that the TTK in general is a bit higher than in Destiny, but I'm still trying to figure out why that is a bad thing in an RPG.

I'd say the only issues I see with it vs Destiny is that most enemies in Destiny won't use cover that effectively, and this game is defined by it.
