Vita seems most obvious, seeing how they're using a Vita to show off the trademark... Though it's a Vita 1000, so that doesn't make much sense.

Found this on the Vita subreddit. I would love to see a Vita 3000 with clickable analog sticks for remote play
AND PROPER L2/R2 AND MICROSD
... But adding an entire new method of input on a hardware revision? I can't think of a single platform that's done that.

Maybe, just maybe, the dream isn't dead. Or at the very least, maybe we're going to get a sick ass controller dock to use Xperia phones with remote play.

Click in if old.

New 3DS added a second nub and L2/R2. Though that stuff was an addon for old systems first before being integrated in the New revision. Does that count?

A Vita 3000 with clicky sticks would be nice, and also really surprising. I'd probably buy it.

It's not a trademark. It's a patent. And it'd say that it's time to realize that not all patents actually result in actual products.

Companies patent things so that they have the chance to possibly use them in the future, but from there to actual use there's a big difference.

The fact that it's demonstrated with vita means nothing, because it's simply an example to illustrate the patent.

In this case, it's extremely unlikely that Sony will ever make a Vita 3000 with different inputs, simply because they're already having massive problems with incompatible games with Vita TV.

I would very much appreciate Vita-3000, a new revision that mirrors button layout of DS4 [clickable sticks, 2 sets of shoulder buttons]. The rest can remain the same.

Hard to see it, but I'd upgrade if they put out a Vita with clickable sticks and L2/R2 buttons to make remote play perfect.

er, yeah, patent, my bad. mixed up the words, got 'em all jumbled

even if this ends up being nothing though, it's still news :p

Yeah sounds like they're covering all corners. It's not even a new hardware, they demonstrated the mechanism on old Vita 1000. I don't think they're ever going to use this.

Sexy. If Sony sells a handheld that has actual buttons that are analogous to a Dual Shock in clickability and placement, then they'll have a day 1 customer in me.

Yeah. I think making it the best at its extra functions (remote play, PS1/PS2 classics) without breaking compatibility would help its longevity. I know I'd sell my 1000 for something like that.

Not really applicable here. In this case, they'd be adding inputs that bring them in line with other devices that already have those inputs, as opposed to adding inputs that have no match (backtouch, touch, front/rear cams).

I'm in the camp that says this won't amount to anything on the Vita front, but maybe they're keeping up R&D just in case they ever take another crack at the portable console thing.

or maybe they'll make another Xperia Play that plays Vita games haha yeah right

A vita with clickable analog sticks and
AND PROPER L2/R2 AND MICROSD
?

Fucking day 1 holy shit.

I have short girly fingers so the back pad is absolutely useless. This is the solution I've been dreaming of.

Maybe a striped down Vita that can only do RemotePlay and maybe PS1/PSP games?

Retail for $75, clickable sticks and four shoulder buttons.

Hard to see us ever getting another Vita model... still miffed that the slim didn't have an HDMI out.

Japan maybe? Maybe just something to make money off of if someone else wants to do it.

I'd buy it.

Bring back OLED and I'm sold tomorrow...

Seriously doubts it will ever happen

They should really make an minor updated Vita like 3DS->New 3DS. L2/R2/L3/R3 for better remote play and more ram so it can handle ports better.

Can't see any other reason for clickable stick than incorporating it into a dedicating remote-play device. "Bringing console experience to handheld" is a huge flop so Sony is pretty much done with handheld.

6 Inch OLED latest Samsung panel, BETTER WiFi chip for Remote Play, L2/R2, and this click stick. Take my money.

I don't give a shit about clickable sticks, but if Sony adds R2/L2 I will buy a Vita3000 day 1. Maybe Diablo will actually be playable with Remote Play then, lol.

If they're making a Vita revision, if they can just make it use SD cards or MicroSD then I will buy a brand new Vita for sure.

The worst part of owning a Vita is knowing that you have to spend $100 on a super expensive memory card that would hardly hold any fair amount of games.

They still need to make games that aren't directly ported to PS4 day one though and maybe get some killer ports. I'd kill for Skyrim Portable Edition.

Even if they don't make anymore Vita only titles there is still room for emulation of PS1 and 2 titles in the future. If not then just homebrew and having the ultimate emulation machine for portable gaming. PSP did very well even after the Vita launch simply because it was amazing for homebrew.

If it has the OLED screen on top of those improvements, I'll buy it/import it.

I agree with OLED. The screen makes a huge difference. It like why buy a terrible TN monitor when you are going to look at it all day. Also all the premium phones have OLED (Nexus 6P, Galaxy S and rumors of Apple going to use it) and with PSVR using it hopefully costs are now down.

Processing of Vita cannot be easily "gutted" or "ehanced". Entire package is already compact, with memory being stacked on top of the SoC. I don't see that part of vita ever being changed.

But screen, battery, controls and memory slot are things that can be tweaked.

I don't think there's any way Sony is pumping more money into portables. They don't even support the Vita anymore.

They don't make new 1st party games, that is not the same as not "supporting it". They have steady flow of new software, continuous relations with devs, and if they can produce Vita hardware that is $1 cheaper they would do so and release new redesign.
