NeoGAF Games of the Year 2015 Awards

ALL HAIL THE OLD BLOOD!

Bloodborne is far and away the best game of the year and proof that not everyone forgets about games released earlier in the year.

kudos to FromSoft for crafting a masterpiece!

So my affinity list is just anyone that has both Bloodborne & MGS5 on their list, nobody comes close to my list.

My list is probably too weird to have anyone that is close to being similar, it has a hardcore game (Bloodborne), a game GAFers despise (MGS), a dudebro shooter (CoD), an interactive movie (Until Dawn) & mobile casual crap (Marvel Future Fight).

At least I'm unique?

Blood borne wasn't robbed :)

Hell yes.

Bloodborne really won? Hm. No comment. Congrats, I suppose.

EDIT: And MGSV got #3?!?!? I thought GAF was pretty lukewarm on it. Guess I'm going to have to make my way over to the voting thread to see what the hell is going on.
The thing with MGSV is that it disappointed to the extent that many people, myself included,, expected it to come out and instantly be one of the greatest games of all time. Instead it came with a few glaring issues but still an overall fantastic game. So as much as I and many others might "bash" it, we probably still consider it one of the best games of the year. I think I put it #3. Before it came out I expected it to unseat MGS3 as my number one game of all time. In reality it probably just slips into the top 20.

It's crazy how well I sync'd up to GAF this year. My list with Gaf's final number for each game next to it. (The first four are identical, which is amazing to me.)

Me / GAF/ Game Name
1. (1) Bloodborne
2. (2) The Witcher 3
3. (3) MGS V
4. (4) Rocket League
5. (32) Dark Souls II: SotFS
6. (33) Mortal Kombat X
7. (11) Xenoblade Chronicles X
8. (7) Fallout 4
9. (10) Mario Maker
10. (115) Driveclub Bikes

So basically my top 4 were identical, 7 of my top 10 synced up with Gaf's almost perfectly, and I had only one game out of the top 100.

Really happy to see Talos get puzzle game of the year and Ori make it onto there as well even though it was only an honorable mention of mine.

I genuinely thought Witcher 3 was going to win 1st place, it being multiplatform would push it over the edge but nope! I didn't expect LiS to be up there so far either.

Good work op. Glad to see trails in the sky and oreshika get some recognition. Looking that the list makes me appreciate how good 2015 actually was.

Huh. My affinity list is certainly interesting.

Kinda funny to see so many users with Fallout 4 in their rankings when that isn't even close to my opinion of the game.

Actually they would've made it, if Bayonetta 2 is anything to go by :X
What I meant was if someone told you this list a year ago, not if they came out last year.

I don't think I ever had a miscommunication like that on GAF, lol, I'm out.

On a side note, how is Sunless Sea a strategy game? It's more of an adventure game with RPG and sim elements.

Bloodborne, MGSV and Witcher 3 are all great games and it's well deserved. Bit silly that some people are annoyed that their favourite game did not win or isn't higher on the list.

I was personally completely blown away by Life is Strange and I'm really glad it made the top ten :)

Thanks!

Here's the spreadsheet that Cheesemeister and I used for this year's voting: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12IWj-b0iN7Z8FpGTD5EvLYBA8CkTxjSu9Gs2IBoHk9k

We take time before voting every year to populate it, then add in new titles as they're nominated during voting.

Generally for genres we pull them from places we find out data for the games... so Wikipedia, Steam, Metacritic, GiantBomb, etc. We obviously can't play all the games so we have to rely on sources like these. It is especially difficult because most games these days have elements of multiple genres so we just have to make a judgment call. It's not perfect but really there's no way to be.
Thanks, that's basically what I'm doing for all my gaming purchases. I suppose it helps to have all of GAF help populate it in your case. I'm going to copy the data you have for now :)

I find myself dreaming of a complete database across all generations with tons of info for every entry down to stuff like composers, directors, etc. out there for everyone to use. I guess I'm just spoiled from having all those huge databases at work but I could use such a thing to reach some cool realizations I wager.

I had four of your choices on my ballot, but I suppose our affinity ranking wasn't high enough. Several other users had stronger ballot similarities.

Any game which came out on a new platform this year that was already out on other platforms seems to not have been counted on the overall ranking. Steins;Gate and Shovel Knight are examples of games which came out on vita this year but came out last year on PC, and they aren't on the full list, but are on the handheld list.. I'm guessing because Act 1 had been out already they didn't include it in the full list, which is a shame.

Might be so, but it was listed a valid entry in the docs before.

I made a quick count made in the txt file, and got 41 point for Broken Age: The Complete Adventure, so it wouldn't have made any difference in the specific list, so it's only in the overall list it's missing.

Perhaps. Or it might have bloomed regardless of its availability through PS+, perhaps through word of mouth.

Free games get better traction amidst the casual audience more than paid for games.

But, who cares? The PS+ inclusion , while double edged in concept, was good

Bloodborne wasn't robbed ^.^ Also wow at Until Dawn at number 9 and Life is Strange at number 5, I'm impressed.

Good job with this guys, appreciate the work you put into it.

This was how my top ten synced up with the overall list (brackets = placing in overall list).

4 - Rise of the Tomb Raider (#16)

9 - Rocket League (#4)
