Just another example that word of mouth through different types of social media can make any good indie game a success.

Is it like internet MEME type of quirky kinda game? I'm not into that stuff.

It generates its own humor. If it references anything, well, you've played Mother, you might recognize a couple things because Toby Fox loves that series, but it's mostly in spirit, not direct. It is absolutely its own game.

Now don't listen to anything else lol

Impressive, it was kickstarted with just $50k.

Even more crazily, the Kickstarter goal was a mere 5k, and this was after already making the demo (which comprised the entire first zone, including the battle system and so on) basically on a budget of zero. It ended up being ten of the most delightful hours I've ever dedicated to any game, going to show you can make amazing things with very few resources.

No, the humor is original, but in the spirit of Earthbound, with just weird, quirky stuff.

I caved into the hype machine, and I am glad I did. Well worth $10 if you like that sort of Earthbound type weirdness or if you like the chiptune style of music, which is outstanding and worth the price of admission alone (up there with VVVVVV and Scott Pilgrim game). The music is what sold me on the purchase, so you might want to youtube the OST if you're into that.

Quirky, kind of. Game has spawned memes on the tier of "cake is a lie" from portal.

Never heard of "cake is a lie" and I've never played portal.
Thanks I'm not even sure if my pc wil run it lol

Good....its a really unique game..... not anywhere near GOAT....but in that comfortable category of "great games"

Honestly, its anime references and meme-like quips are my least favorite part of the game (along with a certain characterthatwontbenamed).

Still, most of the NPC lines are fun and some got a good chuckle out of me. Its certainly not the only humor it resorts to by far.

Not my cup of tea.

Now that the dev has earned some serious cash, hopefully they use a better art style for their next game.

Agreed.

Well deserved. I believe Toby Fox said in making Undertale that he was just putting in stuff that he liked. And it ended up resonating with a lot of people. Pretty inspiring game dev story.

Indeed.

It's got its share of pop culture references and random stuff, but (repeating what I just said in another thread, heh) much of its humour actually builds from character work. That's very refreshing since so few games actually manage to make that funny.

Yeah. That character is so bad.

alright, alright, this is like talking to a cult or something where is the link to the udnertale game demo. I am scared of malware and I admit I've never used steam.
So where do I start?

Undertale is one of those games that I probably would enjoy but that repel me with their visual style. Everything I've seen about it so far sends shivers down my spine, and not in a nice way. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't know much about it, so that may actually be the game's point, but it just doesn't suit me somehow (even if it was the point).

Well, at least, if I ever get around to it and actually end up liking it, I know that I won't have to feel bad for not supporting the developer when the game was recent, since it's already a resounding success.

You've never used Steam?

I guess you mostly play games on consoles?

It's really hard to take these questions seriously when you have a kappa emote, hah.

I didn't hate it but given the praise people throw at it I expected something a bit better than what it was.
