Breath of fire 3 coming to North America psn in February

So which one's the better game, GAF?

BoF4 or BoF3?

I've never played a BoF game before and I'm considering one of these two which I hear are the better ones. And from what I've seen the art style of 4 is gorgeous.

Holy shit, they actually did it.

Already own the game on PSP via the EU physical release and PS1, but I'll triple dip for sure. Top 5 Capcom GOATs for sure. I could gush about this damn game all day.

About time!

So what held it up in the first place? I remember some reading stuff, but all of it seemed ridiculous.

Now to wait for Megaman Legends 2.

Great game, I wouldn't mind giving it a replay.

I still have my UMD copy. Would love to play it on my PSTV, though.

I prefer 4 overall. The world, the music and the art are all phenomenal. Both games are kind of slow-ish, so be prepared for that.

I had lost all hope of this ever coming out digitally in a legal manner. Awesome to hear.

Now if only we got new, traditional Breath of Fire games...

Finally! Finally! I thought I would never play this again!

Everyone, buy this amazing game. One of the best JRPGs ever made.

Sony being Sony.

Basically, they would not allow PS1 ports on the PSP for the North American market unless there was some arbitrary percentage of new content.

Apparently, there was also an issue with just putting the actual PS1 copy up on PSN since one monster looks like a Power Ranger or something (it's recolored in the PSP version).

Ahh, I was excited until I saw this was the PSP version, not the PSX.

I really need to get myself that dad-gum PSP Go thingy.

4 has a more consistent narrative and a very cool narrative mechanic (playing as two characters, one of which is high level throughout the game). 3, on the other hand, has a very unique jazzy soundtrack, less annoying minigames, one of the best opening sequences in a PS1 RPG, and an absolutely amazing back half of the game. 4's minigames are more incessant and intrusive, but the few that 3 has are AWFUL, possibly the worst in an RPG. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Breath of Fire 3's battle theme is one of the catchiest there is. Very nice overworld themes too. Breath of Fire 4 takes an entirely different approach with a more serious and subdued soundtrack. Tracks like Endings and Beginnings are very mystical, and Men of War exemplifies the Asian aesthetic they're going for in this entry. 3's presentation and sound are more lighthearted and fun, whereas 4's is more whimsical and serious.

Played it for about 7-8 hours and i didn't care for it. Especially when my UMD copy had bad loading issues and would even ocassionally crash.

Cool for the people that like it though, but it definitely wasn't for me.

FUCK. YEAH!!

Shit i've missed that game so god damn much, actually was close to buying a used PSX copy but the game's expensive.

But where the feck is Breath of Fire IV in Europe? We've had BoF III on PSN here for ages, ironically. Maybe we'll get BoF IV soon? :'(

I remember reading about the Ultraman reference they had to recolor in the PSP version, but that seemed way too insignificant to prevent it from releasing stateside. PS1 ports on the PSP sounds like a legit Sony being Sony stupid reason.

Shocked Capcom remembered they owned the IP.
Then they put out the mobile title. Regret everywhere.

This is okay though.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Finally!!!!!!!

I even imported this from Europe for my PSP.

The payoff in the latter half of the game abosolutely justifies it though, and this is coming from somebody that generally prefers more briskly paced games.

I would never call it bad, it's a great game but it can get frustrating. Just trying to warn people that get into it for the first time! I can see people dropping it after a few hours if they didn't know what to expect.

This is so true.

Do I play this on my OG Vita OLED with inaccurate colors or my still sealed Aqua Blue LCD non OLED Vita with accurate colors.

Hmmmmm.......

BoF4 or BoF3?

I've never played a BoF game before and I'm considering one of these two which I hear are the better ones. And from what I've seen the art style of 4 is gorgeous.

I say 3 is the smoother experience. It's more colorful, the characters are much more expressive (Ershin is the only character from 4 that really stood out while I remember Rei, Garr, Teepo, and Momo much more), maps are easier to navigate, 3's Dragon Gene system is infinitely more enjoyable to 4's dragon system because you can mix and match genes to create forms to your liking (although everyone goes to Myrmidon as soon as they can), enemies aren't as obnoxious as 4's, fishing system is MUCH better as you can see the shadow of the particular fish you want and it's easier to reel them in, I think the music is better, and I thought the story ended on a more satisfying note.

4's pretty good as well. It has a more engaging battle system as you use all 6 characters and the spell chains, music is stylized and intense, and the story is much more compelling and dramatic.

Both are really good games but I enjoy 3 more as a relaxed experience with easier gameplay in a more colorful world. The flaws that stick out to me are few but sadly big enough that it can actually turn me away from playing it for a time.

3 has training Beyd around the 40-45% point in the game and that just kills all momentum. It's obnoxious, time consuming, and it builds to a fight that is handled by the AI. The Desert of Death is also a pain but it's easy when you learn the trick to navigating it so it just becomes boring rather than difficult.
4, and this is really a personal issue, the last boss is super hard for me if I don't prepare for it extensively. I spend a large portion of my time throughout the entire game preparing for it and the easiest solution I've had is to fish...A LOT. Lots of full party healing and magic recovery items make it easier to keep piling on damage while recovering from all its damaging attacks.

Go 3 if you want a fun, colorful world full of character and charm. 3 still has some hard parts but they're nothing overbearing. Like grinding will never seem like an issue.
Go 4 if you want a dramatic story with a stylized setting and intense combat that utilizes multiple characters.

When they realized that making new games was too expensive.

That's totally fine as their best games are from their past. I'd actually be totally fine with all the great studios and publishers of the past just taking two years to rerelease all of their various older games on every digital platform out there and making literally no new games at all for the entire duration of that two years. I know it'll never happen, but I'm just saying. Backlog's too damn big as is and I'm never gonna catch up. There are too many good games coming out, we need a break! First world problems and all that :/
