Almost every master system cover

(view of google image search for master system covers. includes some fake ones =P)

The ones with the cartridges on them always cracked me up. Like they couldn't use the artwork on the cartridges alone on the box?

Say what you will about the game but the Japanese box art was a stroke of genius. Here's the kicker: the red stuff is actually a cardboard sleeve that you can remove to reveal Samus's full face. And it's also a reversible cover that features her younger version on one side and her older version's face so you can switch them around as you like.
Damn, that is great.

These are ones I'd definitely say aren't minimalist or minimalistic
This one has 6 different characters on it and having never played or read extensively about this game tells me there's like an orange guy and some other weirdsstuff.....

It's companion pieces, though not "minimalist", are very nice as well.

Haha...right? Most of these posts are nowhere near minimalistic.
I'd consider this minimalist it it lost those oscar wings and the huge 25th anniversary thing or at least incorporate it into the super mario allstars

much smaller than the actual box size, not sure if you can make it much smaller, maybe a photoshop expert could

This is the opposite of minimalist

I didn't quote some of the borderline minimalistics ones and I'm just using this definition
he work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts.
when i think of minimalist for box art I'd think of those early sega games or even the final fantasy ones that are subdued.

That looks like a different storage medium to the Master System cart and SEGA didn't want consumers confusing them. In that context the boxart is well designed imo.

Fairly minimal by today's standards.

*EDIT* it also has this super awesome, minimal reversible cover:

I'm so stupid for not realising its reversible! So much better! Doh!
