I think it was called "Miji" because it's the first game in the series that is transfer compatible with all of the other games, and I'm sure there are other reasons too, but I think that was a big part of it.

The surprise was spoiled, that's the only problem.

The logos only leaked yesterday, they couldn't scramble in a day to add something to a direct that would've been filmed and edited weeks ago. The leak happened and people shouldn't have been expecting all that much from a 5 minute direct.

Either the NX issue, or the fact that Nintendo likes to show footage closer to the release date is why we didn't get anything else.

I disagree. Look at the reaction to the logos yesterday. People were excited but they wanted to see more. The logos weren't enough. It was deemed acceptable since we would be getting this direct to delve into more detail...but the direct didn't do that.

The XY reveal showed much more and was further in advance of release than these games are. In 24 hours you can easily capture footage and add it into a video too. It's incredibly simple and would take 2 hours tops depending on how complicated you want to get. But that point is moot anyways since it should have been in the presentation in the first place.

Nintendo are the ones who do Directs. Not TPC. It is absolutely Nintendo. They decide when Directs occur and what is in them.

And don't read into my feelings on this please. It isn't like this is going to keep me up at night. It's just video games. But Nintendo has completely mishandled their PR these last few months. You can say it's Iwata's death or keeping things secret because NX hasn't been officially revealed or some other excuse (or combination). But the bottom line is this company is barely promoting their products compared to years past. No one has any idea what they're doing past around a month from now other than vaguely with miniscule details that Zelda, this Pokémon, and Star Fox exist and will come out this year (probably). When they finally announce a direct, months after their last one, people expect something. But it's just logos. It was incredibly pointless to build this 5 minute video up as a Direct given what it was. Nintendo's marketing is in the toilet right now.

This was a very poorly thought out announcement, the should've waited a bit if they weren't comfortable showing anything of substance yet.

They timed the announcement to coincide with the anniversary, and to advertise the ability to transfer Pokémon from the originals before they actually released them.
