Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition releasing March 11th on XB1/W10

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition – Microsoft Studios highlighted additional content for Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, demoed at the Xbox Spring Showcase on Xbox One. The Definitive Edition enhances the award-winning original game release with new content, including new areas, abilities, more story sequences, multiple difficulty modes, fast travel between areas, and more. Available March 11 on both Xbox One and Windows 10 (additional details).

Appropriately titled Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, the new version complements the original with a number of fresh, fan-pleasing features. For starters, an expanded theater mode – as described by Executive Producer Mark Coates – further shines the spotlight on the game’s gorgeous visual presentation. “Not only will you be able to view all of the cut-scenes, but now you will be able to see early concept material from the game, trailers, and some other really cool content in theater mode.”

While behind-the-scenes bonus material might be enough to draw fans back to the Spirit Tree, Coates and his team aren’t stopping there. A sizable new playable area, dubbed Black Root Burrows, will let fans dig deeper into the game’s rich fiction. “There is a great story sequence throughout Black Root Burrows where you’re discovering the past of Naru, the mother character,” Coates said. “You discover her roots, where she came from, and you learn a bit more about her as a character and why maybe she is compelled to do some of the things that she does later on in the game. It’s all interwoven with the already-existing story.”

Also releasing on Steam

Guys, calm down, OF COURSE we are also releasing the Definitive Edition on STEAM as well :)

It'll be available on March 11th for Xbox One, Windows 10 and STEAM. And if you already bought the original version of Ori and the Blind Forest on any platform, you'll be able to buy this version for a small upgrade fee.

Glad it's coming to Steam, but does the Steam version also require Windows 10?

No, of course not. If Ori and the Blind Forest ran on your machine, the Definitive Edition will run on your machine :)

YES!! Perfect timing, thank you Thomas!

If you haven't played this wonderfully game, I cannot recommend it enough.

Sure doesn't sound like it based on how excited they are about saying "Windows 10" in that press release.

I recall the devs saying months ago that there would be an "upgrade path" for existing owners.

Going to be real shitty if that is only for Xbox One.

...lacks reading comprehension.
Was there no mention of price in that? Wondering if there might be an upgrade option.

I think he mentioned once that buying the game at the reduced price plus the upgrade would be cheaper than buying the Definitive Edition alone. Guess the upgrade is going to be $5 to 10

I feel like this Windows Store only shit is just a grave mistake. Only thing I know is I ain't buying shit from there.

Should have a retail release. Can't say more content is what I really want for Ori, the game was great enough as it is.

Well I remember the developer telling people to buy the game during the winter sale (on Steam) and then upgrade to the DE later because that will be cheaper than buying the DE itself

Pricing?

Coming to Steam?

I am certainly never buying a game on the Windows 10 store. I might try one if it's free (Fable Legends), but I have too much self-respect to support their awful platform. Get your shit together Microsoft, and make a real gaming platform if you want to control such a thing on PC. Don't piss in my cornflakes with that piece of shit and tell me it's milk.

The dev when posting here has said many things about how they'll be able to upgrade and encouraged purchases during the Steam winter sale suggesting it would be the cheaper option rather than waiting for the DE so I can't imagine it's Win store exclusive. Probably just that because it's an Xbox website.

Pretty sure it was mentioned a while back that there would be an upgrade option for people that already bought the base game.

can't wait for this, I've been holding off on starting this up because of the update.

I feel the opposite, I want to support the Windows Store more than Steam seeming as its installed on all Windows 10 PC's. Making the store more appealing with all these exclusive titles is a great move by Microsoft and hopefully they'll listen to feedback and improve the application.

I think the use of "Definitive" is a little confusing.

I think it would be less confusing if it was presented as a patch (for the stuff the would typically fall under the banner of a patch), and paid DLC (for the stuff that would typically fall under the banner of paid DLC).

For better or worse, the term "Definitive" tends to refer to a game being rereleased on more powerful hardware with the kind of enhancements that go along with that. I don't know why they have decided to buck this trend.

It was first mentioned as coming to Steam when the DE was announced but the later press release, the one that confirmed ReCore as coming to the PC, dropped any mention of Steam for Ori despite another game (Cobalt) still getting mentioned as coming to Steam. I would have figured it would come to Steam just because of how important the upgrade path sounded for Moon Studios, hope it still does.

Nope, there never was a word about it.

Question is, how much will be the upgrade for existing owners?

Bummer. You could have gotten more money from me Microsoft!

Why is that a reason to support it? How does it being installed on all Windows 10 PC translate into "I want to support that."

I mean, if it doesn't come to Steam, do people who bought it on Steam not get the option to upgrade? That's pretty sickening if so.

I think I disagree for the same reasons, if that makes sense?

What this is, pretty much, is equivalent to a GOTY edition. But the thing is, as an identifier, GOTY edition is useless. It tells you that this edition was released to celebrate getting a GOTY award, fine, but what it actually means - generally - is "This version is bundled with all the DLC".

What's a better name for a version bundled with all the DLC? I put it to you that an excellent name for that is, well, definitive. If the version that contains all the content isn't definitive, what is?

And yet, you're right, in that the term has generally come to mean a generational improvement as well; that's a fair observation, and it's entirely correct. All it really means is, well, best; this version won't be surpassed. And I think it's fair to regard that criterion in a content sense instead of a graphical sense if you wish.
